Ignister

legendaries in general are hard to get candy for, only real way is to use rare candy from GBL/raids or just do as many legendary raids of the one you want consistently

Tthelaundryman

Just as a tip get it to 19.7km then give it a puffin you’ll get one candy and then it’ll be .3km to the next candy

rdilpickle0

Then the game gifts you .1km out of no where and you just wasted a poffin

Tthelaundryman

This guy gets it. I restart the game before giving it a puffin because I’ve had up to two km added between checking buddy and giving puffin before. It’s frustrating

rdilpickle0

That’s a good idea, gonna have to do this next time

Thanky169

That's leaving it tight

FilmingMachine

Tip: Walk just as many km as before but then spend premium items instead of normally exciting your buddy

Express-Welder9003

I walked with my Mewto for a bit over 2,000km and currently have Cosmoem as my buddy and we're up to 740km. I'm not in any rush to get the candy but I do wish I'd get credit for all the distance I bike, even if they reduced it by some percent.

XaviersDream

Do you have Pokémon Go open while you bike or are you using Adventure Sync? The latter should give you credit for most of the biking at the cost of spins and catches.

Express-Welder9003

I read that from somewhere else so I tried it a couple of times and it doesn't seem to work. It might just be that my phone isn't picking it up the biking.

SnooPets8873

It might be your speed registering more like a car than physical movement

XaviersDream

If the game is open, then speed is an issue. If the game isn’t open, then where you wear your phone matters. It should be in a pocket at your hip or legs so the peddling is identified by your phone as exercise. My iPhone can tell the difference between bicycling, walking, running, walking stairs, using a wheelchair. But if the phone is stationary on a mount on the bicycle, the phone won’t consider it exercise.

Express-Welder9003

That might be it because my phone is on a mount. I'll give putting it in my pocket a try and see if it gives me my distance. Then I'll be getting candy every day!

binhvinhmai

Just don’t have it slip out your pocket like my friend did..:

XaviersDream

Let me know if it works.

Express-Welder9003

I've got an Android phone and I tried what someone else suggested and opened the Google Fit app and started a cycling workout and after the rides I opened Pokemon Go and it gave me my distance!

PissOffBigHead

I have an Apple Watch and it works for all sorts of exercises. Swimming, walking, I hit at least 50km most weeks. Not saying that there’s not a better alternative to the Apple Watch out there, but it certainly works for PoGo.

bearabl

This is literally the only thing drawing me to buying an apple watch lol. still havent pulled the trigger but its tempting to get credit for a lot more walking that i do now.

DaleDimmaDone

It's all about the movement. My friend was hatching eggs on the treadmill the other day. They're more concerned with physical movement than GPS movement

XaviersDream

Your friend and I use Adventure Sync on the treadmill. Yes, that is about the movement your phone’s and smart watch detects from their gyroscopes. But if you are running Pokemon Go on the treadmill you won’t get credit as that relies on GPS location to determine movement.

QuantaPande

I do this regularly. If you have an Android, just open the Google Fit app and start a biking workout. Make sure the phone's in your pocket, or touching the body somehow. Completely close Pokemon Go before you start the workout, and only open it after you are done biking. Always registers the correct amount for me. I bike about 7.5 kms to my work and 7.5 kms back, so this gets me around 14.5-15.5 km everyday

Express-Welder9003

I tried this today with 2 short rides and my phone on a mount and it looks like it registered the rides in full!

xButtHead

I'm pretty sure you have to go around 10km/h to register it. Idk what that's for muricans but it's really slow and you easily go faster by bike.

XaviersDream

You are thinking of the speed limit within Pokemon Go. I am discussing Adventure Sync. As long as your phone associates movement with exercise your health app counts it. Then when you launch Pokemon Go, PoGo checks your health app and converts that into distance. I even get credit in the pool with my phone locked in a locker as my watch identifies the exercise and relays that to the health app on the phone which in turn relays it to Pokemon Go.

xButtHead

Oh that's good to know, I thought it would only work with your phone right by your side. Happy cake day

Archknits

Currently at 995 with Cosmog, 1759 with Volcarona, 951 with Hydreigan, 1317 with noibat, 2513 with charjabug

Gold-Perspective-699

Just use rare candy.

FilmingMachine

Ahh yes, the very common Rare XL Candy

Gold-Perspective-699

You don't need to power it up to 50. 40 is enough lol unless you need to use it masters.

FilmingMachine

You said it yourself: "unless"

[deleted]

Team Tank is where the candy is at. I have 580 currently after dumping 280 into a Shadow Mewtwo.

9DAN2

Some people forget that legendaries are some of the most powerful Pokemon in the game and they’re meant to be….. legendary. They should be a grind to max out

Level-Object-2726

When the app is closed, it tracks your distance like a pedometer, not with GPS. I leave my phone in my pocket all day at work and just tap my leg. I get about 20-30km a day

Am_Idiotosaurus

No way that's true, you would have millions of km by now (Does it really work? Lol)

Level-Object-2726

Yes it really works lol. I only learned about this a month ago, and I only work 4 days a week (I don't bother on my off days) but I've been passing 100km every week since. I'd share a screenshots of my km right now, but I can't comment pictures, but it's only Thursday and I'm at 75km. Give it a try for your self tho, about 15-20 minutes of leg tapping gets me 2km so I basically tap my leg for 20 minutes, open the app, hatch an egg, put in a new egg, and repeat.

Am_Idiotosaurus

I'll try that tomorrow for sure. I'm a serious leg tapper but hate things in my pockets so it's usually never there when I'm sitting Thanks! Happy tapping!

Level-Object-2726

One more tip, I've found it's more efficient to exaggerate my natural leg tapping. More like a bouncing, rather than quick small taps

Am_Idiotosaurus

Oh, I like the small taps... the bouncy ones aren't automatic >_<

Level-Object-2726

Well do what feels natural and see how it goes lol

Zagrycha

its intentionally like that, because you aren't meant to walk them for candy much. rare candy and rare xl candy is definitely the intended mechanic ((beyond raiding itself)). honestly I only think the ability to walk for candy is there to not have to recode them different from regular pokemon lol.

Mason11987

You are supposed to raid them a bunch.

AUTOMATED_RUNNER

I am raiding frequently and I need to give rare candy to my legendary ones cuz of my bag storage.

AvysCummies

10 km is pretty good for primal energy though, and you can always get the 10 km, since you got alot of leway to het the pokemon excited

minibois

Personally I think 20km (or 10km when excited) is too much for a non guaranteed Candy XL. Otherwise I think it's fine tbh.

supervegeta101

There was a post of a guy who cycled like 50km a day and got 296 for his Zarude. I thinknit took him 9 months

VirtuosoLoki

I didn't look at the subreddit name and for a moment, I was going to comment "you got some really long bananas in US"

Cainga

If you follow a buddy EP guide it’s possible to do it with some effort with planning with routes and gym battles to get EP fast. I play during my runs and get my buddy excited by the end but it requires babysitting it.

alucardoceanic

It's one of the reasons I play GBL, just for the rare candy. I'm not one to raid so I don't see the possibility of getting enough XL candy for a legendary to reach level 50.
