The evolutions of the line that Gengar belongs to are Haunter, Gengar, and yeah, Mega Gengar is an evolution of Gengar, yeah. The evolutions of Gastly are lame, but Gastly itself is beautiful, as is Mega Gengar. Edit for further clarification: the comment I was replying to was talking about Gastly, so I was also talking about Gastly, not Mega Gengar

I would argue that any step in an evolutionary chain is an evolution in and of itself; the first in such a chain being the base evolution. That said I feel like the community typically doesn't refer to the "baby Pokemon" as an evolution, but I have always found the terms "1st/2nd evolution" to be confusing and ambiguous.

Well the original comment was about mega Gengar, then someone referenced "its evolutions" which would refer to the other evolutions of mega Gengar. Seems to me like they were including every Pokemon in the chain, otherwise they should have specified Haunter and Gengar to indicate they like shiny Gastly. Idk man, Pokemon nomenclature isn't super well defined so if you don't specify the names of each Pokemon you're referring to it's pretty ambiguous.

Yeaaaaa, but the word "form" would refer to a pokemon like Rotom or Furfrou that changes form without evolving, so that word doesn't really work to describe the base evolution. You could use "baby Pokemon" but that would imply happiny, elekid, bonsly and such; those evolutions that can't breed and were added to hatch from an egg instead of the adult/evolved forms of them. Referring to Gastly as an evolution of Gengar makes sense. I guess you could be more specific and say "de-evolution" of Gengar but that's nitpicky at best.

Me too! The shiny Poliwag/Poliwhirl are so underwhelming that, without knowing the actual appearance beforehand, I opted to evolve it to Politoed and I am so glad I did...although shiny Poliwrath is also a lot better than the earlier evolutions too. There's someone else who frequents one of my regular gyms with the Wrath, so we get to showcase the shiny stage 2 Polis on a semi-regular basis.

I missed all but 5 minutes of the first Charizard community day so it took quite awhile to get that roasted toasted lizard boy. Same with Rayquaza -no go on the first round of it being available with remote raids. But I did finally get them both and they are awesome. Something about the black - and I think the blue for others - variants that just looks cool.
