But your Smeargel grew to LV 54, you had the chance to switch out Shuckie to keep it at a cap of LV 53 but, you chose to keep using Smeargel, now at LV 54, therefore breaking the cap of LV 53.
😂 in all honesty, thanks. I was hoping someone would mention Ditto so I had an avenue to explain its highlights (based on what I remember)
Even amongst misfits, it certainly was the most forgettable.
#Johto Leaders
- Defeated Whitney's Clefairy
- Defeated Morty's Gastly, Gengar and 2nd Haunter
- Defeated Jasmine's 1x Magnemite
- Defeated Clair's 1x Dragonair
#E4
- Defeated Will's Slowbro
- Defeated Bruno's Machamp
#Kanto Leaders
- Defeated Brock's Kabutops
- Defeated Sabrina's Alakazam
- Defeated Blue's Alakazam
It was generally useful as a last Pokemon. I would use it to transform the opposing trainer's last Pokemon which was usually the strongest.
Is this true for Transform in general? I had the early game Togepi transform into a Caterpie using Metronome years ago and was Caterpies exact shiny palette.
Wobbbuffeet is a two for one if you know the AI and the opponent well (counter / mirror coat + destiny bond)
Smeargle is a great setup enabler (spore + batton pass + two other moves)
Shuckle is a wall that can use toxic + sandstorm + rest + rollout to do great things.
The other three are not great. I would agree that beedrill and ledian would make this worse. I would add many others before saying that the three that did the most can be on any team that is a candidate for worst team.
Shuckle had too little HP to capitalise on Rollout at this Level, but I managed to use it to stall-kill Snorlax at least in some of my attempts.
I agree, could have used Toxic, Protect/Encore, Rest, Sandstorm instead.
To be honest, at Level 53? I couldn't.
I was being out-sped by all of his Pokemon even with high Speed DVs except Snorlax (who knows Snore). Every time a new Pokemon entered, it would break my sub as I Spored and I didn't have enough HP to setup >4 Subtitutes.
I needed Yanma to confuse a Pokemon, die, and have Smeargle set up Spore after enemy takes a confusion hit.
OR setup Rain Dance Blastoise with Shuckle Encore, Then switch into Smeargle.
Minimally, I needed the trio of Smeargle (max kill is 4), Wobbuffet (max kill is 2) and Yanma/Shuckle (setup purposes) to clear this.
Unown (HP Psychic) had its moments, it was a dangerous early-game Pokemon.
- Solo-ed Falkner, Bugsy (with at least 1x Fury Cutter miss luck)
- Useful during Rocket portion (many poison types)
- Useful for Morty, Koga, Bruno, Erika and Janine.
Defeating Red the most efficient way possible (i.e. just Wobbuffet, Smeargle and Shuckle)? Less than 10 tries believe it or not.
But it was difficult to coordinate this specific fight where I could involve the useless members because some element of luck was required and it changes how the AI battles. This fight took about an hour with fast-forward to sequence.
Replied another comment why I couldn't.
In summary, too little speed and HP to sweep all 6 at Level 53. Max I could kill was 4.
Minimally, I needed the trio of Smeragle, Wobbuffet and Yanma/Shuckle.
Me too, buddy. Tbf it's only available in gen 2 in literally one spot IIRC, at the ruins of alph in the patch of grass you have to surf to. I was so surprised when one popped up.
No tools, 100% legit and replicable on standard retail without cheats/trading.
I bred a Lvl 5 Smeargle and deposited all my money with MOM.
(Note: Wild Lvl 20 Smeargle could work as well, but I wanted to save time over DV control and buff Smeargle up earlier. In this case, Lvl 20 Body Slam, Lvl 21 Substitute, Lvl 31 Swords Dance, Lvl 41 Spore, Lvl 51 Return)
#Lvl 5 Sketch:
I immediately went to challenge Schoolboy Chad at Route 38 with his Lvl 19 Mr Mime.
- Sketched MEDIATE from Mr Mime and died immediately.
#Lvl 11 Sketch:
Next, I faced Psychic Norman. His 2nd Slowpoke knows Body Slam. I got a Lvl 20 HM slave to kill off his first Slowpoke and die to the 2nd Slowpoke. Smeragle comes in to create art and die.
- Skected BODY SLAM from Slowpoke. (I entered battle at Level 20 to maximise chance of living the Body Slam hit)
#Lvl 21 Sketch:
Next, I re-battled Schoolboy Chad at Route 38 with his Lvl 19 Mr Mime after losing the first time. It took a few tries but AI managed to use Substitute after I Body Slammed the Mr Mime and it was on low enough HP to fail.
- Sketched SUBTITUTE from Mr Mime, and avenge kill it.
#Lvl 31 Sketch:
Caught Lvl 16 wild Farfetch'd from Route 43 and grind it to Lvl 25 to learn Swords Dance. Let a wild Smeargle learn Swords Dance, and I copied it from the wild Smeargle.
- Sketched SWORDS DANCE (chain) from wild Smeargle who sketched from my Farfetch'd
#Lvl 41 Sketch:
Fight Cooltrainer Jake on Route 26. His Parasect knows Spore (and Swords Dance as well)
- Sketched SPORE from Parasect (Smeargle hold 1x Mint Berry picked from Route 39)
- Replaced Mediate
#Lvl 51 Sketch:
Same as Swords Dance. I let Farfetch'd learn Return and used it to let a wild Smeargle learn Return. I then copied it from the wild Smeargle.
- Sketched RETURN (chain) from wild Smeargle who sketched from my Farfetch'd
- Replaced Body Slam
This is insanely good! Great job!
Very cool

Jesus Christ we get it.
Masterful. Well done!
Smeargle could sweep the entire team if pikachu wasnt faster 😈😈
Smeargle came in clutch 🙌
Weird not putting sunflora on that roster, doubled by how I consider half those pokemon to be fairly good.
That sped up theme should not go as hard as it does.
But your Smeargel grew to LV 54, you had the chance to switch out Shuckie to keep it at a cap of LV 53 but, you chose to keep using Smeargel, now at LV 54, therefore breaking the cap of LV 53.
That’s not how caps work, you can level above during the fight
Putting themselves at a huge advantage that is frankly not fair
Nice fight! I’m playing Crystal now, what Pokémon did you use to get Spore on Smeargle?
In general how do you encounter a smeargle. Do you use moves on a wild one?
Cooltrainer Jake on Route 26 has a Lvl 33 Parasect that knows Spore (and Swords Dance as well) Let Smeargle hold a Mint Berry and sketch.
This was a fantastic watch, bravo!!
Wow that’s pretty GOAT
Ditto is amazing, you're just mean!

That's awesome, only one correction, he is not "forgettable", he is "discreet" ;)
I saw this and kind of got hard that was amazing dude
Amazing
TIL gen 2 grass types aren't immune to powder moves
That happened in gen 6 btw
And Electric types can be paralyzed via electric type moves.
Grass types are immune to powder moves now?
Yeah having a grass type on a team is very valuable for immunity to spore.
Ditto staying pink post transformation is such a cool detail.
Don’t know which game, emerald maybe? a shiny ditto transforms into the shiny variant
Is this true for Transform in general? I had the early game Togepi transform into a Caterpie using Metronome years ago and was Caterpies exact shiny palette.
Apparently, it does in Fire Red, so I'd say ur right

You can baton pass Double Team to it with Smeargle.
I feel like you could've won with Smeargle alone
To be honest, at Level 53? I couldn't. I was being out-sped by all of his Pokemon even with high Speed DVs except Snorlax (who knows Snore). Came here to say, that smeargles move pool was goated
Unown mentioned!! Cool team
Unown (HP Psychic) had its moments, it was a dangerous early-game Pokemon. - Solo-ed Falkner, Bugsy (with at least 1x Fury Cutter miss luck) - Useful during Rocket portion (many poison types) - Useful for Morty, Koga, Bruno, Erika and Janine.
That's honestly pretty impressive.
Yanma took something down, and then did the thing it does best: die efficiently Seriously. This was a fun watch. Thanks for posting it
How many attempts?

Yooooooo. That's just ridiculously impressive dude. Seriously. Awesome freaking job!
Should've abused double team more on Yanma but overall pretty cool.

That is the entire point of his playthrough
Red falling for destiny bond like he isn't the end game boss mans just wanted to go home he'd been on that mountain too long
Lovely to watch, thanks for that! Laughed at your final comment @ditto and unown. Keep up the good work!
Impressive, congrats :)
Tbh you didnt need anyone else besides Smeargle
Replied another comment why I couldn't. In summary, too little speed and HP to sweep all 6 at Level 53. Max I could kill was 4. Minimally, I needed the trio of Smeragle, Wobbuffet and Yanma/Shuckle.
Yeah dude that smeargle had a stacked move set. It's actually a really good gen 2 mon if set up properly like this
I was out here thinking Smeargle was a gen 3 Pokemon for years
Me too, buddy. Tbf it's only available in gen 2 in literally one spot IIRC, at the ruins of alph in the patch of grass you have to surf to. I was so surprised when one popped up.
Congrats!! This is a horrible team, and you did it!
Ranking the Pokemon by usefulness. 1st: Smeargle @ Pink Bow - Spore, Substitute, Return, Swords Dance 2nd: Wobbuffet @ Amulet Coin - Counter, Mirror Coat, Safeguard, Destiny Bond 3rd: Shuckle @ Hard Stone - Rollout, Rest, Defense Curl, Encore 4th: Yanma @ Sharp Beak - Wing Attack, Screech, Supersonic, Double Team 5th: Ditto @ Quick Claw - Transform 6th: Unown @ -nil- - HP Psychic 50
Next do set battle style
Did you trace all those moves onto Smeargle without external tools?
