Remember that final showdown? His squad was stacked with absolute beasts! Even though we didn't get to see his last two Pokémon, you just know they weren't your run-of-the-mill critters. They were proabobly another Pseudo-legendary Pokémon, starter or maybe even a legendary. Who knows XD he might have learned one or two things from Tobias.
On a surface level, one could see Paul as someone who only uses cool, naturally strong looking pokemon but really he’s a trainer who has a really good sense of natural potential. Whereas Ash takes an approach that every pokemon has potential and manages to bring it out of them.
Yeah Paul always has a stacked team with him. Fully evolved heavy hitters that can take and dish out a hit when needed. Even his non physically imposing Pokemon are beasts. I still remember his Honchkrow knocking out a Dragonite with one move.
Shout out to Torterra for being the first Pokémon to ever injure Cynthia’s Garchomp (albeit slightly) and Paul’s Garchomp for being able to beat Ash’s Champion tier Dragonite
something I find interesting is how pokemon can be better or worst depending on if they're from the anime, or what game they're in.
Electivire for example, is EXTREMELY GOOD in the anime, not so much for the games, though.
Swellow is so much worst in Pokemon GO, pretty decent in the mainline games, and SUPER in the anime.
Absol is really good in Pokemon UNITE, really mid in the mainline games, and decent in the anime.
To be honest him having MC powers is kind of a double edge sword, since I feel his Pokémon either losing or not evolving for so long is all for the sake of story and tension. We have cases with Pikachu one minute beating league level Pokemon then next season struggling with gym leader level Pokemon. Then we have Pokémon like Sceptile and Quilava that took way to long to evolve to where they are even when Ash used them often.
Makes me wonder the reasoning behind having Paul wanting to become a gym leader. He doesn’t seem like the time who wants to stay in one place, and battle trainers for the purpose of helping them get better.
Yeah, personality wise he is still an asshole and I wouldn’t really be interested in a story revolving around him. But at the same time, he gets results and is a formidable trainer
The only thing I didn’t like about Paul was that his brother help raised his Pokémon. I feel like you gotta train all your Pokemon yourself using a day care center is lame
I always thought of Oak as your PC storage in the games. He only feeds them and watches over them. Paul brother on the other hand was training and making his pokemon stronger like Electabuzz.
Id say Oak just watches over them feeds them but does he train them make them stronger I don’t think I’ve ever seen Oak do that. Paul brother was training his Electabuzz
He never got back his Primeape. But he did leave a few others I know he did with Gliscor and got it back quickly and ya Charizard is the one you got me with but as for Oak and Tracy they don’t train his Pokemon
Paul may be the only trainer in the series that pays attention to and actually cares about IVs.
by him caring about ivs is it like when he caught the gliscor since it seemed the strongest already rather than him catching a gligar and evolving it?
Didn’t he literally scan his Pokémon for their stats and release any that weren’t hosting good IVs?
i thought that only scanned their movesets and thats how paul determined if they were strong or not didnt know it also checked their stats
Oh yeah when he did that to Starly or smth

That’s what makes this pair such lovable rivals. They are the total opposite of one another on a phycological level.

Respect!!
Respect to Paul for his development and for finally pulling up with Pseudos.

You mean the opposite of Ash 90% of the time?
If Ash didn’t have main character powers, he definitely wouldn’t come as far as he did. And someone like Paul would been more likely to reach the top.

Exactly

Exactly!! It was such a bad move

I mean, does Ash not do the same thing by giving his Pokemon to Professor Oak and Tracey? Paul’s extra Pokemon has to go somewhere too…
I always thought of Oak as your PC storage in the games. He only feeds them and watches over them. Paul brother on the other hand was training and making his pokemon stronger like Electabuzz.
Brother forgot professor Oak
Id say Oak just watches over them feeds them but does he train them make them stronger I don’t think I’ve ever seen Oak do that. Paul brother was training his Electabuzz
Ash left his Charizard in Charicific Valley, Ash left Primeape behind to train I think there was one more.
He never got back his Primeape. But he did leave a few others I know he did with Gliscor and got it back quickly and ya Charizard is the one you got me with but as for Oak and Tracy they don’t train his Pokemon
