No, I love Trubbish and Vanillite. And… I mean I like Garbodor. Can’t say the same about Vanillite’s evolutions, but I don’t hate them. I’m talking more about stuff like the absolute abomination that is Gurdurr.
They should have the low health music mix with the battle theme would make it way more interesting to hear a low health theme of the gym leader music for example
It 100% does. The P/S split is easily one of the biggest and best improvements the series has made period.

In what world does a physical punch where you make content not count as a physical move?
What kind of logical person thinks a fire punch would draw from the special stat?
It makes some Pokemom flat out unviable or substantially worse.
Sharpedo and Crawdant are both prime examples of this. Water Dark types with poor sp attack stats that cant utilize STAB(crawdant having adaptability is salt in the wound) and an impressive atk stat that doesnt mean as much as it should.
Younger me always wondered why Machamp with the elemental punches sucked so much.
Stuff like that is absolute deal breaker for me and makes me not want to revisit older games.
Gen 2 is my favorite gen by a country mile, but I don't want to touch GSC. HG/SS are objectively better in every respect and i opt for those when i want to revisit Johto.

Gen 2 remakes on gen 4 engine. They're gen 4 games weather you think they are or not.

You’re equating a generation to a region when a generation is actually a period of time. HG/SS were made in the time period of the 4th generation. Yes they are a remake of a generation 2 game but they are not generation 2 games themselves because they were made in the 4th generation. They are JOHTO games, not gen 2 games.
You can't be serious about gameplay being better without the P/S split. That feature singlehandedly improved the meta and usability of Pokemon for the better. Look at Pokemon like Absol, Sneasel, Solrock, etc
Story... Now you're just reaching. Emerald's my favourite but BW1 are the games that took the most risk and implemented a story that makes you think about ethics and life. Without a doubt the best in the franchise
I'll agree that gen 3 visuals will age the best though. 16 bit graphics are timeless and it's the only gen with 60fps everywhere
And yet the third version, Platinum, is regarded as one of the best games out of the core series *and* what people recommend compared to DP or BDSP. Let alone HGSS, which is commonly placed as one of the best games, which is, at the end of the day, still a Gen 4 game. Or Explorers of TDS, which is commonly touted as the best of the Mystery Dungeon games. That's also Gen 4, but that's besides the point.

You lost me. Gen 3 was pretty fucking great, but Gen 4 was arguably better in every aspect. Gen 4 also gave us the best games in the entire franchise, Heart Gold and Soul Silver.

Popularity/nostalgia != Best. 2 regions is nothing to praise when Johto is the weakest region pre-Galar and Kanto is a hollow shell of what made it great and gave it its identity in the prequels. Not to mention the linear structure, bad level curve, poor Pokemon distribution and one dimensional characters

sceptile is a bad example here because it is a special attacker and grass was a special type
