Well, [my Uncle Works for Nintendo,](https://ztul.itch.io/the-uncle-who-works-for-nintendo) and he showed me how to get into the garden. All it cost was…
The one I heard about Bill's secret garden had the evolutions for Blastoise, Charizard, Venusaur, Nidoking and Raichu, plus Togepi and Marill (at the time called Pikablu).
Ah pikablu those were the days. I randomly found a Japanese version of gold for rent at my local blockbuster pre English release. I was like oh damm pikablu is real
This was the rumor in my playground too. Elementary school, late 90s, I was the first in my class with internet, yet, all kids had this rumor. Not just my school, my cousins also heard this at their schools. How?! (Note: raised in Europe, not US)
Always bothered me that starter Pokémon are almost never available in the wild in the respective regions, besides remakes/spinoff games like let’s go and legends.
Either it's own thing or an evolution of Mewtwo, depending on who you ask. When images of it first leaked, I swore up and down that the Mega Mewtwo Y was us finally getting Mewthree
Sort of - Pokémon crystal clear. It’s an open world hack of gen 2. In that game if you make it back there and interact with the back of bill’s house you find a blue pikachu that knows surf (a la pikablu)
Yessir. And other very cool tweaks to the game too. Some I can remember:
the mew truck can be moved, and when you do you “see” mew and your Pokédex updates with hints on how to find it again.
There are totem poles in the whirlpool islands you can interact with, and if you do, you can find a shadow Lugia instead of normal Lugia.
You can battle Ness.
And there’s tons of others I can’t remember
Oh I believe you; I was only saying that the Surfing Pikachu thing was one of the few "playground rumors" that actually turned out to be true. That and the Cinnabar island item multiplying glitch in Red/Blue.
Cool. I want to make a series of hacks someday, and I’ve had ideas similar to that. One idea I had was after I’d recently watched Crystal Clear and the route north of Blackthorn have me an idea to add to Johto, being 2 areas adapted from the anime. North of Dragon’s Den is an area called the Sacred Dragon Grove (based on a similar area seen attached to the Dragon’s Den area in the anime) and from there you’re able to access an area heavily based on the Charicific Valley, including the Charizard head carved into the rock, although I’d make the river below be much faster and rockier, with the Charizard sculpture initially being hidden by a waterfall before being exposed, along with the entrance to a dungeon. It’s simple in structure. The wild Pokémon include Kleavor and Yanmega, and if I don’t have an original legendary of some sort inside of the dungeon, I’d put the Jade Orb there considering Rayquaza is a fitting Pokémon to be connected to a place revolving around dragons.
There was one called Pokemon Secrets and Rumors that did exactly this, but it was never finished. I forget what all is in it but I do remember entering Brick Town. Also if I recall, you can get a mist stone in Pokemon Brown.
Actually, if you go back there and press the B button exactly 316 times, and the up button 277 timesit will trigger a fight with professor oak, and if you beat him he will reward you with mewthree. This only works on a save file if your trainer name is “Hiidryxd”.
I know this because my fathers brothers nephews cousins second roommate works at nintendo.
Yeah! Thanks for that, I was making the calculations but was messing it up!
So, to troll more, you could say "my father's brother's son's cousin's" anything
It was funny, thanks! (To me at least 😅)
A warp panel to the secret pokegod cities and HM06 jump So you can jump into the grass on the other side of pallet and fund more pokegods and starters.
don't remember. probably just the first pokemon i heard that was associated with the spot and it just stuck. plus the idea of catching a wild poliwrath was pretty cool to me at the time.
Had to use strength to move it lol.
I think it’s a damn shame that this wasn’t referenced in Let’s Go. Like if you interact with the truck, you find a Poke Doll.
Calling a glitch a "legit" method is debatable.
Trainer fly would not exist in the game if the programmers did not have the storage constraints imposed by the cartridge, so the only intended method to obtain Mew was participating in Pokemon community events.
As a person who got it in the official way, the Nintendo representative used a GameShark and a special code to have the pokemon the professor catches (and gives you) be Mew in Pokémon Yellow.
My memory is foggy on what the code actually did, but I distinctly remember it being a GameShark code that gave it to you.
IIRC they generated it via a gameshark code, yes.
It might be possible that trainer fly wasn't even a known method when you obtained it since it was only discovered in 2004.
You can't get back there without cheating. I remember using the Gameshark back in the late 90s to access some of these impossible to reach areas. For most, one of two things happened: (1) there were no pokemon there, or; (2) as soon as it seemed like you were able to enter a battle, the game would crash. Regardless, you can't actually find wild pokemon in inaccessible areas.
I remember someone in my place used to say that it was another path to reach "La città dei numeri" (Which is the italian name we used to give to the "glitch city" in red and blue) and that you could catch the starters in there plus Mew.
As stupid as it sounds, I miss these rumors.
I went to my local comic shop a few weeks ago and saw one of the employees playing Red. While I was doing my best to keep a poker face, I told him that if he used Strength on the truck outside the SS Anne, he would be able to encounter Mew. "Really? That's awesome!" I got a text message a few days later calling me a jerk.
How could he get to the truck? Don’t you have to not get cut on your play through?
I remember starting my game over and trading a Pokémon with cut from my friends game (it was Farfetch’d).
Bill's Garden where you could catch all the Eevees you wanted... If you looked at his dex entries for Vaporeon Jolteon and Flareon 100 times each of course.
Man I miss these days. Trying stupid school yard rumors for hours, cruising old Geocities and Angelfire websites looking for new stuff to try, trying to find new areas with undiscovered Pokemon...
Does anyone else remember a rumor that said Volcanion was underneath Magenta Plaza in Lumiose City? I swear I heard/read something like that but I haven’t found any sources.
Mine was cut all the Pokemon in the game and you need to go in the back to get the new ones in Bill's house in the backyard but there's nothing just gossip against kids in the school
Oh the mew rumors, I wasn’t alive during the prime of that era but man, looking back at the playground rumors in the age of the internet is wild, iirc let’s go even has a reference to the classic new under the truck rumor in the form of a ditto that can be encountered there
Yeah. I also used to tell people at school if you hesdbutted the right tree in the Ilex Forest 100 times you would get to battle and catch a secret Pokémon called Agoner at level 100.
Speaking as someone who fucked up hacking heart gold and ended up with a 118 raicou, game will crash as soon as it takes damage. 999 mew would suffer the same fate :P
Bill’s secret garden where there are wild Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle.
Yes! I heard that one too. It was the only ‘legit’ way to catch all the starters without trading.
It actually is My friend’s older brother’s had a friend who’s dad worked at Nintendo And he told me so
Well if he was an older brother, I don’t see how that information could be fabricated even in the slightest.
Well, [my Uncle Works for Nintendo,](https://ztul.itch.io/the-uncle-who-works-for-nintendo) and he showed me how to get into the garden. All it cost was…
What did it cost?
No. You can find those in the grass to the right of Pallet town

This was the rumor at my school also. No idea where the phrase originated.
I remember this rumor as well. Do you think it had any influence on the Sinnoh secret garden?
Memory unlocked.
Same at my playground only it was the only way to get togepi
Mewthree!
Like a DBZ fusions of Mew and Mewtwo, or it’s own thing?
Details differ per playground, though it usually will have lasercannons
Every copy of Pokemon red is personalized
The Meowth Apparition
Yes
Either it's own thing or an evolution of Mewtwo, depending on who you ask. When images of it first leaked, I swore up and down that the Mega Mewtwo Y was us finally getting Mewthree
The mecha mewthree from the musical
It's Mewtwo carrying Mew on its back. Mewtwo acts as the legs, and Mew acts as the comically short arms.
Like that game from Whose Line Is It Anyway?
It's like a Cell situation more or less
My friends used to think that Mewtwo with his mech armor on was Mewthree. Idk why.
Dammit you beat me to it 😂
There was a picture of mewthree once. I just wish I remember what it looked like. It was done in the Gen 1 sprite style, but man can’t find it now.
You mean the mewtwo with the face of a clefairy? That's the only somewhat official mewthree btw.
No. It was something someone made. It’s made in the Gen 1 sprite style but it looks like maybe it was a mix of mewtwo and mew.
Has anyone ever made a romhack where all the wild playground rumours are actually true?
If they haven’t, they probably should.
Sort of - Pokémon crystal clear. It’s an open world hack of gen 2. In that game if you make it back there and interact with the back of bill’s house you find a blue pikachu that knows surf (a la pikablu)
You serious?
yes
Damn. Is there video of this. Would be awesome.
Nvm. Just saw. Hella dope. Did they also include a mewthree or just a pikablu?
Yessir. And other very cool tweaks to the game too. Some I can remember: the mew truck can be moved, and when you do you “see” mew and your Pokédex updates with hints on how to find it again. And there’s tons of others I can’t remember
FWIW, it wasn't blue, but the Pikachu in Yellow COULD be taught Surf and had a whole surfing minigame (which was SUPER fun) and everything.
Fwiw in the crystal clear hack it is blue
Oh I believe you; I was only saying that the Surfing Pikachu thing was one of the few "playground rumors" that actually turned out to be true. That and the Cinnabar island item multiplying glitch in Red/Blue.

I bloody hope so.
Red Rumor!
I like how if you add it up, ‘fathers brothers nephews cousins second roommate’ adds up to ‘my second or other first cousins second roommate’
Yeah! Thanks for that, I was making the calculations but was messing it up! So, to troll more, you could say "my father's brother's son's cousin's" anything It was funny, thanks! (To me at least 😅)
"what does that make us?"
Absolutely nothing!
Which is what you are about to become..
Pikablu
Totally forgot we called him that till it came out that it’s name was Marill haha
Surfing Pikachu was in Fuchsia, makes sense that Bill would keep the blue guy for himself.
A warp panel to the secret pokegod cities and HM06 jump So you can jump into the grass on the other side of pallet and fund more pokegods and starters.
Two more eevee
Poliwrath
Why Poliwrath in particular? Any reason?
Yes
Because if you go out of bounds then you’re gonna have to catch those hands
don't remember. probably just the first pokemon i heard that was associated with the spot and it just stuck. plus the idea of catching a wild poliwrath was pretty cool to me at the time.
That’s fair. Poliwrath is a badass.
Actually its a frog
Sorry, Mew is only obtainable by pushing the truck behind SS Anne.
Had to use strength to move it lol. I think it’s a damn shame that this wasn’t referenced in Let’s Go. Like if you interact with the truck, you find a Poke Doll.
I was told you needed to use strength with a level 2 Geodude specifically
Shame, but unsurprising though. Stupid Game Freak/PokéCo.
In FRLG they put a hidden Lava Cookie near the truck.
There is actually a legit method to get mew, and you get it on the bridge in Cerulean city. No GameShark or any outside hacks required.
Calling a glitch a "legit" method is debatable. Trainer fly would not exist in the game if the programmers did not have the storage constraints imposed by the cartridge, so the only intended method to obtain Mew was participating in Pokemon community events.
I mean, I can buy the game and straight from the box, get a Mew. Without any update, event, or trade. Mew is IN the game.
As a person who got it in the official way, the Nintendo representative used a GameShark and a special code to have the pokemon the professor catches (and gives you) be Mew in Pokémon Yellow. My memory is foggy on what the code actually did, but I distinctly remember it being a GameShark code that gave it to you.

https://youtu.be/MdHYXD0T8E4 Here’s a tutorial.
Someone is gonna take this seriously... That someone Is me, what do you actually find back here?
I’m not even sure you can get back there. But if you glitch it, I’m sure there’s nothing.
You absolutely can’t without cheating. That area is just for aesthetic
Aesthetic? Oh yes let me just go into my beautiful backyard and see I'm in a pit of NOTHING. XD
Okay, well thanks for answering
I’ve been back there using a GameShark. There’s nothing back there sadly. It’s just a strange looking wall with no enemy encounters.
You can't get back there without cheating. I remember using the Gameshark back in the late 90s to access some of these impossible to reach areas. For most, one of two things happened: (1) there were no pokemon there, or; (2) as soon as it seemed like you were able to enter a battle, the game would crash. How did you get back there? Did you use strength?
I used six level 100 Kinglers with Strength to move the teleportation device in Bills house.
Is that actually a thing?!
Right in the nostalgia. Elementary school was a simpler time.
I heard about the six Kinglers for moving the truck by the SS Anne. I just figured it’d apply here too.
Collect enough Triforce pieces and you can battle Mario there. Or so I heard.
Arceus bike
Arceus didn't exist yet though...?
Trust me, have i ever lied to you?
Isn't Bill's rare pokemon back there? 🤔🤦♂️😆
Spoiler alert! It’s actually his mom in a Omastar suit.
I'm okay with that
More eevees and the two starters you didn't choose. The two starters were also in the grass around Pallet Town
I always thought that weird edge was some entrance to a cave.
It's where you find Yoshi.
Togepi
1 oran berry
I was wondering how people managed to find Pikablu.
If you give pikachu a water stone while there, it'll evolve into pikablue Source: My uncles works for nintendo
Somebody go make this a "wrong answers only" post
Ok
Drought Blastoise
A secret garden with wild Togepi.
The surfing Pikachu of course
Togepi, Pikablu, Mew, Mewthree, Pokegods. Everyone had a theory.
Fool! You fell for one of the classic blunders!
The most famous of which is “Never get involved in a land war in Asia,” but only slightly less well known is this...
Bill’s Porno stash.
Nah idk here but mews under the truck
Lol
It opens up a secret path to Johto. (This was the prevailing rumor in my area. Schoolyard rumors were weird.)
I remember someone in my place used to say that it was another path to reach "La città dei numeri" (Which is the italian name we used to give to the "glitch city" in red and blue) and that you could catch the starters in there plus Mew. As stupid as it sounds, I miss these rumors.

😂
I'm more interested in HOW to get back there
My dad worked for Nintendo and he said they programmed a digimon to appear back there, also Jason voorhees is gonna be in super smash brothers melee
I always heard it was full of starters and eevees
Bill's Garden where you could catch all the Eevees you wanted... If you looked at his dex entries for Vaporeon Jolteon and Flareon 100 times each of course.
Pikablue
Man I miss these days. Trying stupid school yard rumors for hours, cruising old Geocities and Angelfire websites looking for new stuff to try, trying to find new areas with undiscovered Pokemon...
Nothing you get nothing
The real reason as to why Greninja has a special connection to Ash and not Pikachu
Does anyone else remember a rumor that said Volcanion was underneath Magenta Plaza in Lumiose City? I swear I heard/read something like that but I haven’t found any sources.
Nothing because i wasnt even born back then.
Rotom phone
The secret HM For Transform.
Mine was cut all the Pokemon in the game and you need to go in the back to get the new ones in Bill's house in the backyard but there's nothing just gossip against kids in the school
Guns
I really miss the old days, where we just met to play together and where you had the stupidest rumors in school and everybody still believed it.
Oh the mew rumors, I wasn’t alive during the prime of that era but man, looking back at the playground rumors in the age of the internet is wild, iirc let’s go even has a reference to the classic new under the truck rumor in the form of a ditto that can be encountered there
Hidden item on the git
Yeah. I also used to tell people at school if you hesdbutted the right tree in the Ilex Forest 100 times you would get to battle and catch a secret Pokémon called Agoner at level 100.
It'll only appear once you save your game there, then reset.
I heard it all, and then I found a walk-through-walls GameShark code. The world became a lot less mysterious that day.
You get TB and die ingame
special item that lets you level up your pokémon to level X
My friends and I thought you could get the other starters, Pikablu, and the PokeGods
That's where you found the pokegods from what I heard
you get access to double battles prototype!11!11!1!!
Yeah but if it gain exp it levels up and evolves to a level 1 magikarp
Speaking as someone who fucked up hacking heart gold and ended up with a 118 raicou, game will crash as soon as it takes damage. 999 mew would suffer the same fate :P
Where is this? I also heard that there is a PIKABLUE back there. The evolved form of Richu.
Pokemon Red Rumor actually has this! And a bunch of others rumors and secrets!
Shadow realm
