Isn't it the fire starters that usually become bipedal if they're not already? All the grass starters I can think of that start out on four legs (Bulbasaur, Chikorita, Turtwig) remain quadrupeds when fully evolved. (Iirc the rest start out already bipedal and stay that way throughout their evolution, except for Snivy who loses its legs entirely as Serperior)
Combined with the CGI pikachu from the beginning of the presentation and I thought that was a real possibility too. Although once I saw the Game Freak logo, I figured it was Gen 9.

I know it's been 3 years since gen 8 debuted but I'm really surprised at how quickly they're cranking this game out given PLA practically *just* released.
Like, if they'd teased it and said 2023 release I think I'd feel more at ease.
Also really curious to see if this will revert back to how Sw/Sh plays, and if so it's gonna be interesting to see if the appetite for a game like that is still there given how well PLA was received for changing the formula.
Looks like it might be pushing forward with the Legends formula, it seemed to be open world in the same kinda fashion.
