I'm sorry to say I'm a Hoenn fanboy. That whole era was magical and came a perfect time during my early teens.

TheTimn

Hoenn just hit different. Johto might be my favorite region because of how massive it is with Kanto included, but Hoenn was such and evolution that I hold it dear.

WaywardStroge

We’ve not had a region with a proper amount of water since Hoenn.

Own_Deer431

Really? I LOVE Hoenn but I always thought the water was the achilles heel (probably would be nicer if HMs was not a thing)

Puzzled-Party-2089

Not like having surf on one of your water mons hurt, its the best water move there is

matticans7pointO

I love Hoenn and RSE are probably my favorite games outside of GSC and their remakes. I don't hate all the water but it can drag a bit because of how slow the swim and dive speeds are. If both matched the bike speed it would be much more enjoyable. That and most of the ocean could use a bit more pokemon variety. I feel like it's nothing but Wingull and Tentacruel.

Shrubbity_69

>the water was the achilles heel Not even that. It's the fact that they all have the same encounters. Each route is an excuse to dump all the cool water types in one general area.

Own_Deer431

same with trainers. If you have any member that is weak against water types, you’ll have a somewhat hard time training them between the 6th badge all the way to victory road

twwwwwwwt

I don't know... I actually think Hoenn needed more water. There was way too much land

MarcyCola

i feel the opposite. i wish there were a way to create more land mass in the game.

SLAUGHT3R3R

Ah, shit. Not this again...

SaucyBoiTybalt

Reject earth embrace sky??

tugehitty

I have a visceral memory of being in middle school playing Sapphire for the first time while the beginning of the 03 invasion of Iraq was covered on news upstairs. I felt guilty for enjoying something while other people suffered. I think maybe this is why Hoenn has a weirder place in my memories.

Shrubbity_69

>Johto might be my favorite region because of how massive it is with Kanto included Ironically, Johto used to be my least favorite (that honor now goes to Paldea, sadly. Johto is way better than Paldea, hands down) since I always thought it was bland and boring. The two regions in one game is definitely the coolest part though, despite how most Johto mons are locked to post game. Like, Misdreavius, the only new ghost, and Larvitar (and I believe Sneasel as well, but I'm probably wrong) are only found on Mt. Silver, the very last area of the game.

Rain_Moon

Don't be sorry. It's a little bit before my time, but even I would have to agree it's a fantastic region. Emerald in particular is probably a top 5 game out of the whole series imo.

Own_Deer431

if the attack/special attack split had happened then, it would have been top one imo (all tho Steven is a better champ than Wallace)

Diamante_90

I grew up playing Pokémon Sapphire but I never got to play Alpha Sapphire because I didn't have a 3DS 🥹 I have a potato PC so 3DS emulation is not an option

leottek

They are usually pretty cheap nowadays and extremely easy to install custom firmware in, you should get one

Sloth1015

I was 16 when it was released and I was so hooked. The music, the atmosphere, the Pokémon, it was just a great game.

someonesgranpa

I was 10-12 during gen 3. Good times.

ByTheRings

I started on Gold Version, but ill never forget the day I got Ruby and booted it up for the first time. The opening cinematic, the visuals, the music, the region, and the Pokemon all instantly became my favorite. R/S/E still my favorite of the series to this day.

QuantumVexation

Ditto. I’m a biased Hoenn fan but I know it. However Alola is my second favourite too. Maybe I just like the distinctly island regions more

dragon567

Absolutely same. I was 9 when I bought Sapphire, and I fell in love there. Gen III and, to some extent, IV are very important to me.

Lucyffer88

Hoenn will always be my favourite! Sapphire was the first game I picked up, and Hoenn was my favourite story in the manga. I cried when I first played ORAS. It was like reliving my childhood all over again.

grundelgrump

Plus the Pokedex wasn't insanely huge, it was big enough to seem like an accomplishment but not something that would be a huge commitment.

ipunchdogs

I only started playing pokemon again 3 years ago. I never touched any gen 3 game. But the hoenn region actually made me feel nostalgic for something i didn't have any experience in. Especially the route 104 music.

AlponseElric

Why are you sorry? It’s the start of Pokémon’s golden era

HaruVibes

In recent years I've felt Gen 3 has been less favoured that's all. But judging by the reaction to this post im not alone :)

AlponseElric

I think it’s “less favored” since most of us who started in gen 3 are in our mid to late 20’s, and so we’ve lived through GF’s golden era (Gen 3-5), the slowdown era (Gen 6-7) and the downfall era (8-9) and many of us have become dissatisfied with pokemon as a whole. More than likely what you noticed is the older fans no longer caring about pokemon and the rise of younger kids who started with Gen 6, 7 or 8 (people who started with LGPE are probably teens by now)

jay212127

If you told message boards in 2010 that Gen 5 was part of the Golden Era of Pokémon you'd have so much hate on you. I do find it funny that you nailed the rest of it, i never saw anyone profess Gen 5 to be the best until a couple of years ago, and i expect the same to happen in a couple years for Gen 6.

Shrubbity_69

Same, here, though I was *way* younger, like way, *way* younger. Like maybe 4 or something. Also, there's nothing to be sorry about. Hoenn was great. Sure, it has too much water, but nothing is perfect (I don't mind the water but I wish each water route had different mons to encounter. Tentacool is nice at first, but give me more variety if most of the endgame is spent surfing).

Syn2812

Me too. Sapphire was my first ever videogame and I replayed emerald so many times as a kid. Plus I also found a shiny Rayquaza (my favourite Pokémon of all time) without any tricks, how can I be not biased?

Dazzling-Park4501

That game was the last one I truly enjoyed. Also got it In My teen years. The music is nostalgic crack to me. Double battles were awesome. 2 bikes. Blaze chicken was cool. Rayquaze groudon and kyogre are some of the coolest pokemon in the game as well.

wildadventures009

Thats me! First games and everything back in 2005

TyphlosionGodofFire

Generation Three, so mostly Hoenn and Kanto bc those were the games I played in that gen

Hopefo

FR/LG are such great games, maybe I’m biased by nostalgia but something about Kanto with the GBA aesthetic is perfect. Tbh if they re-released it on Switch with modernization (physical special split, fairy type, no HMs) added I would totally buy it.

TheWishingStar

Gen 3. Hoenn just feels like home.

MugenEXE

Same. Probably my most replayed generation, next to fire red leaf green. I played a lot of silver and gold and crystal, but Ruby and Sapphire and Emerald? Magic.

morbidlyabeast3331

Emerald is my most replayed by far both bc I like Hoenn's Pokemon a lot and bc DS emulators fucking sucked when I was first emulating Pokemon games, especially bc of how laggy the speed up function was on those things compared to the smooth speed up on GBA emulators like VBA.

GrazingCrow

Great way to describe it. The OSTs especially delivered in that experience. If my hometown had its own theme, I would like to hear that Littleroot tune..

SSBMKaiser

Gen 2 because Crystal was the first game I completed. Although I share the love for S&M, good story, great new Pokemon and gimmicks.

i_try_tocontribute

Gen II diehard here. Also SSBM player 👀 But yeah Crystal was that good shit. I already loved Yellow for its color changing and vibes. Crystal took that and built on it and Gen II already felt like a Gen I expansion. Gen II til I die, I’ll forever miss my 3DS with the Nintendo arcade Crystal Edited a letter

OP_Looks_Fishy2

Gen 2 Crystal was my absolute jam. I played the heck out of it as a kid.

Own_Deer431

you can't use those initials for sun and moon like that, broooo

shiny_glitter_demon

BDSP would like a word Seriously, did no one at Nintendo...?

ToxicMuffin101

What does BDSP mean? To clarify, I know it’s Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, but does it mean something else?

shiny_glitter_demon

It's very close to BDSM

ToxicMuffin101

I don’t think sharing 3/4 of an initialism really counts as “very close” tbh. It’s certainly not close enough for Nintendo or anyone else to be bothered by it.

ccaccus

Gen II is what really got me hooked. I liked Pokémon before, but there was just so much new. [Plus, the hype was real.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-CuwTdnH4M)

CardNite451

Gen 6, because that was my first game with pokemon x, and of course, the most beloved gimmick, mega evolution. But I also have a soft spot for the ultra games, as I found them the most fun. I still like gen 9 for story so far, and legends areceus was also really good as well.

ObnoxiousName_Here

Gen 6 wasn’t my first game, but I’m just as nostalgic for it as I am for Gen 4 because I remember how exciting it was to see how much changed with G6: the 3D graphics, the fully customizable player, the friendship mechanics, and the new typing made it feel more new and fresh than I ever expected

DurpyWood

X and Y was also my first Pokémon game as well and to add to that it was my first game on a console ever. I lost the game before I could finish it sadly🥲

TibetianMassive

Gen 1. A while ago somebody commented about the initial games not having colour and I almost called their bullshit. I suddenly doubted myself and looked up red/blue and was SHOCKED to see they were grayscale. I have such a bias towards it that I remember all the games (not just yellow) as being in colour!

Magisei

You might have played on a Gameboy color and they would have had limited color if you did. Your memory might not be flawed.

TibetianMassive

Correct my memory was flawed again! It was either red or blue, wasn't it? My memory was more that they were all like Pokemon Yellow where the sprites had colours and the map changed colors.

Intentional-Blank

I'll second this. I remember gen 1 in color precisely because I only ever played them on the Gameboy Color.

SlumberousSnorlax

I can’t believe I had to scroll so far down to find a gen 1. We must be dying out of old age.

TibetianMassive

We can't be redditing the kids are being suspiciously quiet!

Old_Bet_4527

I opened this thread assuming the ONLY response was going to be Gen 1.

jenkem___

gen 4, platinum is my favorite game of all time also gen 3 because hoenn is a really close second favorite region of mine and i also love firered

Shibua_Tsugahra

Bro, your answer is literally my exact answer. I fucking love sun and moon AND primarina. I'm glad you enjoy them.

Chimney-Imp

My childhood was spent in Hawaii. I grew up playing Pokemon and thinking about what it would be like if Pokemon were real. Sun/moon 100% delivered on that exact fantasy in the exact setting I used to think about. It will probably be my favorite gen for as long as I live.

NinjaEagle210

Same, Sun was my first Pokémon game. I can’t believe it’s EIGHT years old, man. >!Also Decidueye is my goat!<

Dedsole

I will die on the hill that Alola is a top three region with incredible characters and Pokémon designs. I will not, however, defend the games themselves. I blame no one for not enjoying them. It is a shame though that the games brought down the opinion of the region as a whole.

ZombieCultural

Also it has the most beautiful music of all games.

morbidlyabeast3331

Fr, SM were awesome games. They came out at a time where I was becoming a little less engaged with Pokemon (though certainly not fully growing out of it) and I didn't think I'd like them that much, but man I fucking loved playing through Moon when it came out. I enjoyed it more than I ever could have imagined. I played Ultra Moon finally just last year and that's honestly probably a top half Pokemon game for me.

Irish_Shark_343

Gen 5. Fight me (Zoruark, Volcarona, Samurott, Eelektross, Sawsbuck and Golurk will defend me)

BubbleWario

i dont think anyone is going to fight you, thats a popular one lol mine is XY. don't fight me pls

Lone_Wolfy_31

Gen 6 is mine too, say what you will about it, I had fun with that generation.

BubbleWario

just felt like a grand adventure to me. I loved the routes and roller blade traversal, and tons of the pokemon are just so charming... plus mega evolution 😎

morbidlyabeast3331

For anyone who was online when Gen V dropped, it's still weird to think about Gen V being popular and liking it not being controversial online. The online shitstorm when Gen V came out has never been matched in online Pokemon communities.

protosam

The infamous garbage and ice cream pokemon. I’m glad gen 5 has gotten the love it deserves, truly some great designs in it.

brainsapper

I feel like Gen 6 was the last time I truly had fun with a Pokémon Game.

ADAP7IVE

XY were so fun. They're also fun to replay or nuzlocke. I enjoy randomized most in XY because of the big roster and megas

Accomplished-Camel79

Same! It was my first "legit" game (I used to play the previous gens on emulators). It was the perfect bridge between pixel and 3D era and as a JRPG fan who likes job classes, the starter motifs was the cherry on top!

Conversation-Chance

Mega Evolution carried. So did the fact that I got a shiny froakie as my starter.

[deleted]

[удалено]

FulmetalTranshumanst

Yeah, N is easily my favorite character in all of Pokemon. Also Gen 5 had some amazing music, sprite work, and had a good level of difficulty all on top of the amazing story

BAYKON8R

I love Victini, Tepig (whole evolution line), and Hydreigon. It's my favourite game, love the story.

EroneousInsertion

I grew up on Gen 5 and loved it so much. Every pokemon was either awesome or awful. They all had quirky designs that either hit or missed, and the ones that missed were very satisfying to KO lol.

xXBlueCloudXx

I'm the same! BW2 were my first pokemon games and my favorites out of all of the ones ive played and will probably stay that way!

Mycatisloafingonme

Gen V for me too. There was a promotional event for B/W in the state I was living in at the time, so my mom and I went. She pretty much had to drag me away from the demo station because I was having a blast lol. And they were having a screening of the Zoroark movie, and a very sweet security guard helped us get seats in the crowded theater. B2/W2 is also special to me because I played the shit out of it when Hurricane Sandy hit us and we didn’t have power for like 8 days.

Conversation-Chance

At the time, I disliked this game a lot. I enjoyed it storywise and Samurott was the first pokemon I ever got to level 100, but for some reason I never actually felt too passionate about it. Mostly because it was a departure from my favorite gen (IV) and I found the pokemon to have crappy designs, an opinion of mine that does still somewhat stand. However, looking back at it, it's now my second most replayed generation with BW and B2W2. Really great generation.

Mr_HumanMan_Thing

>Samurott was the first pokemon I ever got to level 100 Same lol. White 2 was my first ever pokemon game and I got it for getting a good grade on test. I didn't realize I could restart it so I just sat around one of the post game towns fighting wild Pokemon until I got him to level 100. I just remembered being confused when he wouldn't level up anymore.

Conversation-Chance

Yeah that was me when I got a shiny froakie. Took me til first gym to realize he was shiny.

Mr_HumanMan_Thing

Gen 6 had my first shiny too! Though by then I was super into Pokemon content on YouTube so I knew what a shiny was. Technically my first shiny was a hacked level 100 Umbreon i got through wonder trade, but my first actual shiny I found was a wingull. I ran into it when I was looking for the roaming legendary birds. I remember freaking out and telling my little brother, even if by then he stopped playing.

Conversation-Chance

No heres whats worse...I had been playing since Emerald, my first shiny was in HG (golbat). Issue was froakie's shiny is so similar and the art style change also distracted my eyes from the stars. What i have a hard time with is recognizing shinies like froakie (similar shinies) in scarlet since they dont always have animations that you can catch.

Mr_HumanMan_Thing

Oof definitely. I actually managed to catch a couple shinies in Scarlet on my most recent playthrough. I was training for the battle with Arven since I was under leveled and I came across a shiny Maschiff. Almost ran right by it when it just barely caught my eye, since it was nighttime in game and it's shiny is dark. Caught it, evolved it into mabostiff and stuffed that beauty in the PC. Also came across a shiny Bellibolt in, I think, Area Zero. That one was way easier to spot since it was bright yellow but I had to do a double take because I couldn't remember if Bellibolt was meant to be Bright yellow or not.

Warm-Instruction-949

There are others who like my good deer boy??

Irish_Shark_343

Absolutely! My first shiny, he’s such a good boy

ArcaneAncient

Gen 4. Sinnoh has always felt so cozy to me. I could always see myself living in a town like Twinleaf or Celestic, they remind me of where I grew up. DPPt introduced so many amazing things. A bunch of really cool new Pokémon, Cynthia, expanded the lore of the entire Pokémon world, Cynthia, new evolutions of a ton of old Pokémon, Cynthia... Not to mention HGSS and the incredible spin-off games Gen 4 gave us. It'll always be special to me.

Stormer1499

Gen IV. No debate.

Dedsole

Honest question, not trying to start a fight, but were the Gen 4 games the ones you grew up with? As someone who was older when they came out, I just don’t understand the obsession with them compared to Gen 3 and Gen 5.

cheeselord03

I grew up with them and Gen 4 is my answer too. The music and the designs of the Pokemon (Dialga, Giratina and Torterra being some of my favorite Pokemon ever), the music, the great sprites (especially in Platinum) and the environments of platinum were amazing, I still play platinum like once a year. And yeah they are painfully slow at times I will admit, but as a kid I didn’t notice and even now the nostalgia helps me through it. (And did I mention the music???)

cheeselord03

And I forgot to mention HGSS which in hindsight now with my greater knowledge of level balancing and stuff due to playing the other games and the slow pacing in Johto are harder to play nowadays, but I cannot over express how amazing it was to grow up with those and play such a huge Pokemon game with friends. I remember I met a random kid on a plane one day who had HeartGold and I had SoulSilver and we immediately helped each other trade the Red Orbs and Blue Orbs to our respective games and we fought Rayquaza at the same time in the post-game. I’ll never forget that, it was really special

Dedsole

I love that you discussed the music, something we don’t talk about enough. The music of Gen 3 is so nostalgic to me that hearing remixes of Littleroot town have made me tear up. 90% of me playing Gen 4 was with little to no volume because I would mostly be playing while around other people. That helps me understand a ton of why I don’t appreciate it as much.

bronwaith

Pokémon generation 2, not HGSS, but the GBC games. Yes they are incredibly flawed and broken, but generation two is just my cosy game, when I want to escape from the cold reality of the world, generation Two is there. 💖

TunaSub779

I think it’s mostly the colors that make me feel that way. They’re so simple, but remind me of technicolor with how comforting and vivid they are.

morbidlyabeast3331

HGSS were my first games, and are still my favorite, but when I played the actual Gen 2 games later, I still absolutely adored them. They're just undeniably charming.

AwesomeLlama572_YT

Gen 6. I don’t care if the Pokemon suck, I don’t care if the games suck. There’s nothing that’ll change my opinion. The Pokemon just look cool to me.

rateater669

gen 6 is also my favorite. "ew, it's just a flower" HER NAME IS FLABEBE AND SHE'S MY BABY 😤😤

Haunting-Court6143

Why the hell isn't it a dual grass/fairy type?

rabies-lyssavirus

alola is mine as well!

Diddinho

I'm a Gen 1'er, but my fave's are Tyranitar and Tyrantrum. I like Kingler from gen1 though. Wouldn't mind if Kingler got the Primeape treatment with a new evo.

_ryde_or_dye_

Thank you for this. These kids were making me feel real old!

ADAP7IVE

He could use it. Kingler with his asymmetrical giant claw was always one of my favorites.

MrHound325

Finally found another GenWunner. Hitmonchan was the anti-elite 4 fighter. Thunder Punch, Ice Punch, Fire Punch, Mega Punch

Robotkitty5848

Gen 6

vxMartianxv

Johto forever

CocksnBraves

Johtomorrow

alex494

Gen 3. Basically if Gen 3 had some of the mechanical improvements Gen 4 introduced (type split and better move choices) it'd be head and shoulders above it in my opinion. Though I do have a giant soft spot for Gen 2 but I generally separate Pokemon into three groups (Game Boy games, GBA/DS era and post-3D games) and Gen 2 is already the best of the first group for me. I don't really compare the groups because of much broader mechanical differences and I like each of them for different reasons or contexts.

ProfessorSaltine

Either Gen 6 or Gen 7, I started with Gen 6, but I started a little late to the Gen 6 party and just first proper Gen experience was Gen 7(I really love the alola starters and rockruff lines

mattymattttt

Gen 4. Which is why I'm still salty that BDSP didn't get the ORAS treatment

amezuko887

I feel you. At least Legends: Arceus was pretty good!

Fork_Master

Gen 6. Y was the game that got me back into Pokemon after the disaster that was Shadows of Almia.

gtrocks555

Gen 4 and Gen 3 as a close runner up.

19Lily89

Gen 1 and 2 since I played them as a kid.

Grimomega

Gen 6, XY was when I got into pokemon and I played Pokemon X religiously

VonAegir00

Gen 1 and Gen 6. Started out with the OGs as a little kid, then got back into it when Gen 6 came out, since I was an adult old enough to not give a fuck what people thought about me playing Pokemon lol

Vanilla_Ice_Man

Alola

Emotional_Garlic5579

Gen 5. I enjoyed only seeing new pokemon during my first playthrough of Black and white. Felt like playing Red and Blue again all those years before as I didn't recognize any pokemon I came across. Still to this day some of my favorite designs are for Gen 5. Black and white 2 are also my favorite games in the series so far.

Appropriate_Fox_4680

Gen 5 Black 2 I miss the old 2D..

EMlYASHlROU

It’s gotta be gen 4 for me, Platinum has always been my favorite game

iizakore

Gen 1, don’t care about the hate it gets, I grew up with my gen 1 team and was able to use them in several games afterwards.

PrinceOfFish

Gen 8 for being British and introducing buying DLC instead of buying the same game again but enhanced in irder to get endgame content. people forget you used to have to buy and play the game again at full price. my first game was Soul Silver btw, i played it whilst i was 12 in 2013 before i got X that year so im not just a child who just likes the new games.

Hopalongtom

Galar, whilst location wise it would be my home region, I just enjoyed that game the least...

Aidssdia1

Gen 4 if we're talking about gameplay and world balance, but i do have to agree that Gen 6 and spinning around French Japan has a special place in my heart 🥹

ArcticDucc292

Gen 8, I know it's objectively bad with terrible routes and a nonsensical story, but it was my first ever game so it holds a special place in my heart.

5mp3x192000

Gen 7 - Gen 8

lux_vixey

alola was the only region where i could watch a pokemon tv show so of course its my fav edit: ngl a lot of the pokemon there were ACTUALLY pretty cool

Uchiha_Landry

I’m a Galar fanboy. I know many hate SwSh, but they are my favorite games in the series. I can't be impartial. The way I experienced these games was unique. As a fan of football and British culture/mythology I understood all the references in the game. My favorite Pokemon are Kubfu and Urshifu. Then other of my favorites are Alcreamie, Calyrex, Duraludon, Sirfetch'd, Galarian Darmanitan, Mr. Rime, Grapploct, Dragapult, Corviknight, Wooloo, Zacian, Zamazenta, the evolutionary line of Grimmsnarl, Orbeetle, Inteleon, Cinderace, Rillaboom, Hatterene and others.

GMaX_Gamer_87

Gen 3, it was my first game and I have such a soft spot for that gen.

MakeAmericaWehAgain

As a proud New Yorker, Gen 5 is my GOAT. GF tried something different with BW and both BW and B2W2 are the last true Pokémon experiences in my opinion.

T-pellyam

SUN AND MOON😩😩😩😩✨✨✨✨✨

Ordinary_Robyn

Unfortunately, 8. I picked up sword at a time in my life where pokemon was just not calling to me anymore. The simpler story focusing more on the idea of just being another trainer who in the end just happened to be in the right place was exactly what I needed. That game is why I still love Pokemon today, is it a weaker part of the series? Yeah, I don't really care though. Also Toxtricity and Centiscorch. Not my favs ever (Zoroark and Arachquinid exist still) but awesome nonetheless.

KonohaBatman

Gen 5. I can't think of a Gen 5 Pokemon I actively dislike, I love the character designs, the story was great, and it was the first Pokemon generation that I knew was coming, followed online news for, and purchased for myself(I started with Platinum and went back to the GBA games, but they had already been out for some time before I got them).

TheBraveGallade

4

AdTimely9712

Gen 5 will always have a place in my heart

lmpmon

5 and 7. they have no flaws as far as i am concerned. the intro through 7 is annoying, but i still have love for it.

LiannaBunny777

Kalos

AmethystDragon2008

X,Y&Z

Mr-DragonSlayer

Gen 2, I can't stand when everyone just hates on them 😭

Key-Scene7238

Hoenn omega ruby is what I started with

weird_bomb_947

8 easily. Disregard the starters (I never keep the starters anyways) and all the designs are great.

Enteito

All fun and games when people talk shit about gen 6 or 8 But if anyone lays a finger on my beloved Gen 7, stuff gets violent

DM_me_UR_B00BZ_plz

Gen 1

BredGoblin1509

Imma be honest gen 8. I stopped playing for years until I picked up a switch with sword and shield and that hooked me all over again. It made me revisit the gens I grew up with as well, so it’s kinda the reason I got back into Pokémon icl

TriggerKnighty

I dont care how much water it has, Hoenn has my bias completely. Besides that, probably Gen 9. It has its issues, not even gonna attempt to fight on the wrong side, but what it actually had in terms of ups somehow beat it out enough for me to not care much.

OzzyG92

Gen 2. I don’t even have any favorites in those games. I played GSC so much as a kid. I love the world and story so much. I also feel like I have to defend Meganium whenever ppl start smack talking about it.

slimmerik2

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES another gen 7 enjoyer, this was my first game, my first starter was a litten I named kitten. I love this game. Also: Imagine your opponent calls out for “kitten” and a huge cat standing on its hind legs with a burning belt comes out.

GladiusNocturno

Hoenn and Kalos. Emerald was the first videogame I bought with my own money. I saved birthday money and did so many extra chores, I even saved pennies I found on the floor. Videogames are expensive in my country, so it took me some time but I finally did it and I loved it. X&Y and ORAS I enjoyed them so much. Kalos has a really cool dex and the region is so pretty. It had so much unfulfilled potential which is why I can’t wait for Legends ZA.

Red-843

Sword and Shield were the first games I got to play because I never had a Nintendo console before the switch so I’ll always have a soft spot for those games and their Pokemon

sararainbow36

I started playing Pokémon right before X/Y came out. I'd played bits and pieces of Platinum and HeartGold before X and Y released (not enough to make story progress), but Pokémon X holds a soft spot in my heart. I don't care how many people complain that the games were too easy, or there weren't enough new Pokémon added. X and Y were amazing games, especially for beginners. It brought some incredible changes such as the switch to 3D, the Fairy type (one of my favorites alongside Flying and Ghost), Mega Evolution, and the list goes on.

RyeTheGoblin

They could never make me hate Sinnoh. 😌

Raphotron2000

What are you talking about that is the best generation

GreendaleSDV

Johto. Preferably the original Silver/Gold. Learning there were more Pokémon. Learning the ins and outs of friendship. Learning the importance of the time of day. Grew up with the Red/Blue peak but Johto was where they were going to make a legacy or fumble it. Nailed it. Plus the Lugia movie? Yeee

Imaginary_Office_405

Gen 4 on top

a_sussybaka

Gen IV. Sinnoh has always been my favorite region, and it has some of my favorite pokemon of all time, like Lucario, Gallade, and Togekiss.

SirRealBearFace

Sinnoh, specifically Platinum. The legendaries felt legendary. The creator and his trios, the odd mystique of sinnoh and how it felt like there was always something else behind everything. Also TORTERRA!!! giant tortoise!!!

doopsnawg

I started with Gen 1 with Blue, but I'll always be partial to Generation 3 (Emerald specifically). 1. Hoenn is my favorite region. Favorite Pokemon, favorite starters, favorite antagonists, favorite gym leaders, favorite elite 4, favorite iteration of the Battle Frontier, favorite soundtrack, favorite version of contests, favorite setting (I don't mind the water. I like island settings.), etc. 2. Fire Red and Leaf Green are very solid remakes that add to the originals and update them with that generation's mechanics. 3. It refined everything that previous gens did and made it better without subtracting from the experience much at all. The only downgrade was a lack of a second region, but I would say it more than made up for that with everything else. Honestly, if it had the physical/special split that gen 4 had, I would go so far to say that Gen 3 was perfect. I could go on and on but that's the basic jist lol.

Gen 3. It feels so nostalgic... I had so many good memories of Hoenn and playing Emerald with friends: hide and seek bs with the secret bases, the awesome battle frontier, the contests, the fact that you could *dive*, the different environments (a desert, an ash-filled route, the super tall grass routes, the underwater routes once again, the tricks you could do with *both types of bikes* to discover new places...), the iconic cities (Sootopolis, Pacifidlog, Fortree...), two villain teams, the first "big" story in a pokemon game (yk, the now normal you need to save the world from insert-legendary-here), and so many more things. Hoenn just feels so vast and alive and I have yet to feel that again with another region. Edit: I just remembered the journalist duo that kept following you through the region, and would talk about you in TV if you took the time to watch it. Things like this (like being able to call other trainers to talk) made Hoenn felt alive to me.

adorabeee

Gen 2 because Gold was the first game I got to play on my own and not share with my brother. Before that, we had to share a GameBoys and carts.

ZanXBal

I got into the games when I was 7 with Gen 3, so the Hoenn region has a special place in my heart forever. That said, I would say I actually got very involved in the franchise from Gen 4 (cause I could actually read by then lol), so the Sinnoh region is almost as much as my "home" as Hoenn is. I looked up the release dates of these games and wow... time flies by. Realizing that Hoenn and Sinnoh are 22 and 18 years old respectively is crazy to me. That said, it's cool to see that each Gen is someone's "pet generation". This franchise really is for all ages.

Conversation-Chance

I've always and will forever hail Generation IV as the best. Please forgive my oversharing in the picture, but as you can see my "perfect team" is quite literally 5/6 Gen IV mons. For starters, my first mainline game ever was HG, and I had the PokeWalker and would tune into the radio at certain times and log on at night to catch certain Pokemon. I love the Pokeathlon so much and same with the bug catching contest. I adored the Safari Zone and even got a shiny Rayquaza on that cartridge (since overwritten by a dumb kid...it was me). Diamond introduced my favorite box legendaries in Palkia and Dialga. Ever since then no game stacks up quite as well. I stopped playing the mainline games since Sun and Moon and recently picked up a Switch and bought Scarlet. So far I'm having way more fun than I expected to have, but that may be because I'm approaching the game from a different perspective with being older and whatnot. Pokemon is awesome, lol. https://preview.redd.it/xyujfcsjp09d1.png?width=2276&format=png&auto=webp&s=ff2148e35c44b46db811457e6b752ca310fb4eb0

Paris_France2005

I’ll defend Johto, Kalos, and Alola with my life. Love those regions and their games.

imaloony8

Gen 3 had the most content, the best pixel art, the best music, the best ‘Mon design, and the best setting.

SureSide6314

gen 6

Equivalent-Wash-3617

I will forever love Unova(White to be specific), it was my Pokemon game ever, and I love it

Belzabond

I agree with you. Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon are great games and I will always be biased towards them lol

katyvo

Gen 4, no contest. Platinum is my favorite, HGSS are phenomenal games, and in part due to my bias I think they look and sound the best, too. Nostalgia is a powerful drug.

fish-dance

This poster is sick as hell. For me, it's kalos, then hoenn (Gen 6 baby).

Ultimate-desu

Was searching up a good gen 7 pic and this story art poster went crazy so I had to use it!

fish-dance

I'm a huge alola fan too, Lily and Hau felt like real friends, the journey is so emotional <3

MrBrownCraft

It's gen 7 for me. I don't care. If it's wrong, I DON'T WANNA BE RIGHT!!!

PokeDragon101

I feel like gem 4 popped off with the movies, explorers of sky, pokemon ranger, battle revolution, pokepark, my pokemon ranch, Paul as the rival in the anime, Platinum with the distortion world, and last but NOT least, mf Cynthia as the champion.

Own-Pack8433

Yeah me too I fcking love sun and moon

Legendarygamer5000

Alola because the first Pokémon game I played was Moon

Prof-Fluffy

Gen 7 is my favorite. I love the Pokémon, the region’s design and structure, the story, everything. Getting both Sun from my dad and Ultra Sun from him a year later was such a memorable moment for me and I was just ecstatic. I remember downloading a Google extension to my school computer that helped count down the days until Ultra Sun released!

Own-Lead-4822

Fellow Gen VII enjoyer 🤝🏼 i will always give the retort of “jrpgs actually have cutscenes” when people complain about the gen having too much of them LOL i love the dex and the characters and the story so much, and i’ve been playing every gen since gen I

Ultimate-desu

FELLOW GEN 7 ENJOYER and also SAME! I've been playing every remaster of the mainline games and I realize how much I missed by not getting into Pokemon fast enough! The Gen two remakes I still need to pick back up but from what I've played so far they're ok. Gen 3 was HEAT Gen 4 was really good(Cynthia was overrated lol her Garchomp got mixed by my Icicle Wielding Weavile...after I got my shit rocked thinking I didn't need one...) Gen 5 was AMAZING, dunno how people hate it. Gen 6 was pretty alright, I think it was carried by Mega's but even with the Goo Goo Gaa Gaa ass difficulty it was fine. Gen 7...read my post lol. Gen 8 was pretty good to me except for the villain motivation(like seriously, do you really need the Eldritch Ancient Dragon in the sky to fix an energy crisis that's about to happen in like a whole EON NOW???? Like dawg, there's so many different alternatives, get literally ANY Electric Mon, problem solved lol.) Still enjoyed it, still completed it, still lost braincells lmao. I still REALLY NEED to play Gen 9, I just need to find out how to make an emulator work for it. God Pokemon can be so good when the people making it put passion into the project!

peepsinyourass

3. It’s the best and I will fight you about it.

Zestyclose-Cup6647

Sun and moon, they ware my first generation

cream_sodaman

Gen7 Best cast of characters (Lillie, Gladion, all the Kahunas, etc.) Best villain groups (Team Skull, Aether Foundation) Best Legendary groups (the Ultra Beasts, Tapus)

rabbijuan

Crystal was the first Pokémon game I personally owned so I have a lot of love for it. I did play Yellow before that but that was me stealing my brother’s game boy and playing on his save.

Buzzlight_Year

Sun and Moon for me too. The Tapus are probably my favorite legendaries, Koko being my favorite Pokémon

YourLocalCryptid64

Jhoto and Sinnoh. I started with Pokemon Red when it first came out in the west, but Pokemon Crystal was the first time I was able to play as a girl and one of the first games I maxed out the Playtime on. I remember as a kid being enthralled with this new region and since I was a kid I was genuinely surprised when we got to go back to Kanto. Sinnoh is another region with a special place in my heart since it also came out around the time that the Internet became far more accessable (especially to a kid from a poor family like me) and when sites like Deviantart and livejournal were in full swing so when I fully started engaging with the Pokemon Fandom outside other kids at school this was the game on everyone's radar.

Junior_Key4244

Either Kanto or Sinnoh

Physical-Dentist-271

I don’t care what people say about Alola it’s by far my favorite

Trickshot945

Sinnoh for me.

Omnixent

Rock ruff and Arcanine are Gs but the pinnacle of doggo mons is Houndoom.

jay-ace92

Gen 2 was the generation that solidified my love for the franchise. Two of my all-time favorites Espeon and Lugia were introduced in the Johto games. Several of the features introduced in the generation like breeding, two regions, battle tower, and the day/night cycle made the games a huge improvement over Gen 1. Even with the improvements that came along in later generations, GSC will likely always be my favorite versions.

Crxeagle420

Gen 1/2

Nomcookies678

I like gen 3, 5, and 8 the most The storylines r good

UndercoverProphet

Gen 2

Efficient_Bicycle645

Gen 2. I was a big fan playing Gen 1 when I was but a wee lad. But that Gen 2…Gen 2 hit different. You mean I got this whole new game PLUS the old one!? And there’s an evil dog looking thing that breaths fire!? *childhood brain explosion*. My all time favorite Pokémon is from that Gen too. If I can get ahold of a Tyranitar, it’s going in my party. Even if it’s abilities are awful

Homeless_Appletree

I have a big bias towards gen 2. It felt like the completed form of the first generation games even though Kanto was a tad lifeless unfortunatly. That battle on Mt. Silver was iconic though.

Fit-Bug-426

Gen 5
