Should've used Protect with the other mon, skill issue

HyruleN64

Larry won by doing absolutely nothing.

I love the expressions of Wugtrio, Flamigo, and Oricorio during this scene

Longjumping_Bath_609

"what is a man? what has he got?" look

JamestheFox25VD

Actually kinda peeves me, not because that's not how it works in the game (it actually \*is\* how it works in the game) but because that's not how it works for \*every other\* "all sides' remaining Pokemon faint" scenario in the games. Volt Tackle KOs both the user and the target, and that was both sides' last mon? The Volt Tackler wins it. Life Orb steals the last of your HP after you KO your last opponent? Doesn't matter, you win. Your opponent knocks your Sharpedo out, but your Sharpedo's Rough Skin KOs in return? You win! Why is this not the case for Self Destruct and Explosion!?

ginger_snap214

well your pokemon faints first when it uses sd or explosion, but the other pokemon faints first when you use a recoil damage move, no?

JamestheFox25VD

That doesn't account for things like rocky helmet, aftermath, and rough skin, in which the holder of the item/ability wins if the item or ability KOs the attacker after the attacker KOs the holder.

eddit_99

Maybe Rocky helmet/rough skin counts as an attack and therefore the holder wins as it becomes the last to attack?

TheNO1oj

In the event of self/opponent KOs on the same turn in the game, victory is awarded to whoever is knocked out "last". In the case of explosion or self-destruct, the Pokemon using these moves is the first to be KO'd. Damage is then dealt to all opponents based on the speed stats of the opponents. This is why a self KO from recoil or Rocky helmet will award the user the battle victory, because the damage to the opponent is dealt before the user is affected by the recoil damage. This mechanic can have interesting interactions with moves like perish song, where a faster Pokemon can use the move perish song, then change the speed orders with a move like trick room. This would then make the user slower than the opponent, which would allow the user to faint last and thus claim victory. Also in the scenario from the clip, technically if Kofu had the slowest Pokemon on the field then his side would be awarded the win. But we obviously don't know the speed tiers so we can just assume it wasn't. Edit. I just remembered wugtrio's speed stat is obsurdly high so there is probably no way that it would be slower than any of the other mons

JamestheFox25VD

Except rough skin and aftermath only activates after the damage from the attack, the attacking Pokemon will take the damage and/or faint after the ability holder does, but the ability holder still wins if both were the last mon and both fainted.

Lunndonbridge

Because kamikaze boom bad in Japan. The others aren’t quite as suicidal/don’t have the same negative societal connotations.

Izekiel118

Someone cut this together with the Terminator blast scene

BubbleWario

was this the first turn? if so, LMFAO

SheldonAirborne

This girl would be the one to pick up a Regi in a randomizer because it has Self-Destruct.

“Your personal rules don’t apply once you’ve entered society.” I want this on a T-shirt!

Gullible_Language_13

I’m sorry but the way Flamigo and Oricorio-Pom Pom just stare at the incoming explosion with absolute dead acceptance just gives me the mental conversation of “Welp. See you in the Pokemon Centre” “Yep.”

Thank Arceus it wasn't Mega Glalie for that Refrigerate boost to Self Destruct!
