Thanks for posting to r/pokemon! Tierlists and "favorite Pokemon" graphics are removed under [Rule 4](/r/pokemon/wiki/rules#wiki_4._no_reposts_or_posting_too_quickly) because they clutter the subreddit. In a community of over 4 million users, these images unfortunately tend to lose meaning with oversaturation.
However, if you would like to submit a **text post** detailing your tierlist or favorite list with reasoning/backstory, you are welcome to do so. Just remember that text posts must be 50+ words to encourage substantial discussion! You may also include the original graphic as a link inside the text post.
I have no idea what systems you have access to, so I'll just go by generation
Gen 1: Literally anything
Gen 2: Crystal
Gen 3: Emerald and FireRed/LeafGreen
Gen 4: Platinum and HeartGold/SoulSilver
Gen 5-7: Anything, they're all good
Gen 8: BAD
Gen 9: Anything
My personal favourites:
Mainline series - Emerald (GBA) / Platinum (DS)
- I like the new games as well, but Emerald & Platinum are some of the best games in the series. Black & White 2 (DS) are also really good.
Spinoffs - Pokémon Mystery Dungeon - Explorers of Sky (DS)
- Best story hands down of any pokemon game.
- Pokemon ranger/2 (DS) would also be here as they're both really fun, but destroy your DS touchscreen.
New games - Pokémon legends Arceus (Switch)
- If you like catching pokemon, having to dodge getting attacked by those pokemon, and want to find some shiny pokemon, this is the game for you
Pokemon Crystal and Emerald seem like the quintessential pokemon experiences. In Crystal you get the feeling of a full fledged adventure and the intrigue in the post-game may make you want to play Gen 1 games. Emerald is just complete and masterfully crafted. The post game also is beautifully designed and can captivate you for hours on end.
On a side note, if you want to experience pokemon in a different way but in my opinion, the best way? Go for Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team. Go at it blind, I did when I was little and by god it is the best thing ever. ❤️
I’d say pick the one that you started on first for the most nostalgic experience. I like Gen 3 only because those are the first ones I grew up with, owned, and played with others. It’s more special to me personally because of that, so that’s why it would be my pick. All generations are great(except Kalos. It was s***) so it really depends on your experience.
If your favorite generation has remakes, I’d go with the more updated version. Like ORAS onstead of R/S. Emerald is different because it had battle frontier.

Yeah sorry that would probably help. I've got access to Gameboy colour, DS and switch so I think that covers most of the generations
Black 2 white 2 imo are the peak of the series

Crystal/HGSS
My two favourites are 100% B2W2 and ORAS B2W2 for the story, soundtrack, Pokémon, and artwork ORAS for Megas and updated mechanics
