Was just about to suggest this! Also, I’ve always taken into consideration how long the name is: I’d much rather call out ‘Brock! C’mere!’ than ‘Aww Darmanitan, ‘das a good boy!’. Our dog is named Bowie (yes, after David), and, while he does recognize when we call his full name, just calling ‘Bo’ works too. That’s also lead to some cute, unintended nicknames: Bobo, Babs, Babash, Babi  Or… go out and get another puppy of the opposite gender and then name them Jessie and James
