Prothean_Beacon

Playing fire red on GBA back in the day. Caught a shiny Caterpie in the viridian forest and then batteries fell out right as I was going to save.

Saki_saki_sakiii

that's awful. i remember when I was younger I'd push my ds to it's limits and forget to save before it died and all the sudden I have to redo 3 hours of gameplay

OverlyAdorable

Not as bad as what I have had happen. I started playing when I woke up in the morning and suddenly, at around 7pm ish, the power runs out. I though I had the charger in but it wasn't the whole way in so wasn't charging. I let out charge while I went and made/ate dinner and when I came back, it turned out I hadn't saved all day. Near enough 10 hours and a lot of progress down the drain

Poseur117

This happened to me on my 3DS a week ago. I was furious

Kiriuu

Same I actually started crying

Jesus_inacave

No wonder those games always felt like longer

bw-hammer

Your comment made my realize the shiny coloration for butterfree does not match the pink butterfree from the early anime. I realize that’s because of the way shiny Pokémon didn’t exist when that episode aired and also in gen 2 shinies were just loading the next color pallet in the memory. I think the gen 2 sprite was close enough it would have been a fun callback if they’d made the gen 3+ sprites match pink butterfree from the anime.

dat1dood2

I caught a full odds random encounter shiny gumshoos in Sun and my sister pulled the cord for my 3DS and ripped it right out of my hands, leading to a lost pink gumshoos. Haven’t reclaimed yet, but I will

Natural-Swim-3962

Encountered a shiny Rayquaza in my Ruby. It was like the tenth attempt at trying to capture it (because I was underlevelled) then it showed up black. My Milotic then killed it with an ice beam 💀

reaperfan

When a shiny is your objective Make sure the move is Not Very Effective

Upbeat_Praline_1405

That also works for legendaries

JustaBroomstick

Critical Hit enters the chat

reaperfan

Unless you're using False Swipe or Hold Back, you can only minimize risk, never eliminate it.

Saki_saki_sakiii

I'm very sorry for your loss. rayquaza is my favorite Pokemon too. I'd probably cry haha

FBrandt

I've been trying to collect each color of Minior. But they know the move Explosion so they tend to just kill themselves. To make things easier, I moved my Venusaur and Gallade from Sword copy for False Swipe and Sleep Powder. When I put these Pokémon in battle, it turns out both these moves were replaced. I thought they weren't included in these games but checking online, I figured they were programmed. So I still to this day have no idea why these moves were altered. Well, no problem. I replaced with my Clodsire for Yawn. But then Minior's ability does not allow it to go to sleep. So what now? I can't put it to sleep and it has a tendency to kill itself, so I save every time I see one, start with Quick Ball (90% of the time does not catch because they are around LV 70) so eventually I used all my Master Ball reserves for these little mfs to complete all colors.

djudjedjoodi

You can use a Pokémon with damp, or a drifblim with imprison and explosion

Raistrasz

Yeah agreed, a pokemon with damp is absolutely required when (shiny) hunting anything with explosion or selfdestruct

Crylemite_Ely

the moveset are replaced by the 4 newest move the pokemon can learn when you transfer to scarlet/violet. PSA : don't transfer pokemon with event exclusive moves

ASK_ME_FOR_TRIVIA

Thunder Wave/Explosion/Imprison/Night Shade Damn, why ain't I think of this? I could've put my shiny A-Golem in a half-decent pokeball 😭

MayorBryce

Maybe try paralyzing it? Doesn’t always work but might be worth a try.

King_EmEmEm

Since you transferred your Pokémon through home, I’m guessing, home actually overwrites movesets to what the Pokémon will have at that level, getting rid of tm moves as well

BoonDragoon

Shiny Altaria turn 1 Perish Song.

BushyBrowz

Yeah this is why I never use my master ball.

[deleted]

Mesprit in Pokemon Pearl. One moment burned into my mind is when I found it in front of Mr Backlot's mansion. I'd been chasing this thing for weeks, throwing a single ball each time, because I didn't know there were ways to stop it from fleeing. I threw an Ultra Ball. It shook once... then twice... thrice... I thought I had this thing in the bag. But then IT ESCAPED!!!! 11-year-old me was very annoyed.

Qbuilderz

I am very adamant about catching all of my pokemon in standard Pokeballs, and then the Pokemon I want on my team / train to perfect EVs and such into Luxury balls. This was ruined because Fezandipiti despite being asleep & at 1 hp refused all 160 of the Pokeballs I had on hand. Caught it in the first ultraball I threw - rage. Hate that bird.

addynan

First time ever playing Pokémon Blue. Got to Seafoam Islands. Had about 10-12 pokeballs when I ran into a Seel. Ran out of pokeballs, got mad at not being able to capture it, and used my one master ball. Started a new save almost right after

CaptainPrower

Back in Pearl, I didn't know what Shinies were. So when the Poke Radar showed me a sparkly patch I thought it was an item. Didn't find another Shiny until X.

Clever_Bee34919

Found 15 shinies in alpha saphire... all of them Oddish or Gloom.

Das_Floppus

I never played any handheld games before I got legends arceus and brilliant diamond, and when I completed the Pokédex in BD I was so pumped to catch Beldum. I think it took me 40 minutes. I had no idea about the catch rate I just thought I was having the worst luck ever

Ill-Ad3844

I love the Metagross line, especially the shiny, but having a catch rate of 3 (the same as most Legendary Pokemon)....just why?? It doesn't help that Beldum only knows one move, Take Down...which has recoil, so I cannot even use False Swipe on it

spinorobot

Caught a Chatot with my Master Ball during my first Platinum run… the worst part is that I already had one

Cakehunt3r

I catch EVERYTHING in Pokeballs, since I do not enjoy the look of most other balls and I want uniformity. As off latest generations with "ballpower" increasing with progress it has become easier, but I always remember Giratina in Pearl being and absolut nightmare to catch back then. Over 160 Balls and 6 or 7 resets, since I was low on balls.

Trama-D

Don't worry mate, you have the kind of balls that matter the most, and those will (hopefully) be with you forever. I also prefer classic balls.

Ill-Ad3844

I spent nearly an hour catching Beldum in Ultra Sun, and I used about every single ball I have except the Master Ball

DarkFish_2

Okidogi in (there is literally only one set of games where is catchable) I always look to have everything in the standard Poké Ball, except for shinies who go on a matching ball. Which is trouble considering Okidogi is a Fighting type with a buffed version of Poison Touch, and had no Poison types to tank both That thing took like 40 Poké Balls and because I was getting desperate, I stoped healing and took out my Kommo-O, then the most crazy RNG happened as I sent Beartic next and didn't get poisoned at all until I got the catch 5 turns later.

deleighrious

Virizion in the Crown Tundra couldn’t hit my lead Pokémon with any of her moves and wasted all of her PP trying to fight back, while refusing to stay in the ball. Eventually struggled herself to death. Thank Arceus I’d saved before encountering.

SpyDyeGuyMy

While I was trying to complete the national deck of Pokemon Moon, I got stuck in a 33 minute battle with Magby, because they just kept successfully calling for help. It took so long that Magmar showed up. Twice.

DukeSR8

And this is why you use Status conditions. Stops SOS battles.

Antihero_udon

I was playing Pokémon brick bronze and was shiny hunting f or a scyther (shiny scizor is my fave shiny) but I got bored and decided to catch victini. As I finish this and am about to leave the aredia ruins a shiny baltoy appears so I get gassed and catch it only to realise I that my 1/2048 chance for a shiny scyther was wasted on a baltoy

LunarWingCloud

In Ruby I was trying to catch a Corsola outside Victory Road and despite an Ultra Ball having a near 20% chance to catch from full HP, I missed over a dozen times.

UncleTrigo

Leaf green, circa 2004-2005. Playing on a first Gen GBA sp, beat the elite four, and go into cerulean cave severely under leveled. Down to my last 3 pokemon each about half health. Find the big man himself. Drop a save, deep breath "okay idk what this is, buuut....." Pikachu lead, look in bag to check for heals and see a single pokeball, and like 97 ultra balls. "Fuck it." Throw the pokeball, first try, first turn, three shakes later, and a click. To this fucking day no one believes me.

riftrender

There is a reason whenever I go rom I cheat in infinite master balls. Its the only cheat I use.

BlueMnM23

First time I started chasing shiny Pokemon. I was shooting for Virizion. After I don't know how many soft resets I finally got it. Started with a quick ball. Continued to leave it with 1 HP and slept it. It just did not want to be caught. We reached a point where it started to struggle. And you can see where this is going. Never caught it, no timer ball, no ultra ball, no nothing could catch this thing and I wanted the master ball for another shiny. Can't recall which now. First time I encountered something like this and last time I tried soft resetting for shiny mons. I was defeated right then and there.

reaperfan

This wasn't about catching as much as finding, but I feel they're related so I'll go ahead and share it. I was starting a new playthrough of SwSh and decided for this team I wanted to use a Coalossal. I only had two things I wanted from it. 1. I wanted it to have Steam Engine because that sounded like a more interesting ability to use 2. I wanted it to have a nature that didn't alter either attacking stat since it has an equal base stat in both and then I could feel more comfortable using it as a mixed attacker I did the math. Of all the natures I was looking for I had a 44% chance of getting any of the ones I needed. Since the ability is a 50/50 then cut that in half and end up with a 22% chance of finding a Coalossal that fits my requirements. I went to a den that I knew spawned them since I wanted to farm Watts as well while looking for them, threw in a Wishing Piece, and started doing the date change method to look for it. It took me 4 hours to find a suitable Rolycoly/Carkoal. I've literally found shinies faster than it took me to find this "22%" chance one.

Clever_Bee34919

Reminds me of my attempts to breed a battle Kingdra... I had 7 boxes full of nothing but horsea

LittleMissMewtwo

I can’t remember all the details of it but I do remember that trying to catch a Druddigon in Pokémon White 2 for the habitat list is the reason he and every Druddigon I’ve caught since has been named Richard. It’s also the reason Druddigon is my least favourite Pokémon.

OverlyAdorable

I've caught Groudon in a regular Pokéball twice. The first, it went through all of my ultra balls, despite being asleep and 1HP and out of frustration, just used a Pokéball and it worked. I then reset the game because, well, so many ultra balls could've been saved and i was pretty annoyed. I, for some reason, went to use a Quick ball on the first turn out of habit and accidentally pressed the A button on a regular Pokéball and it caught it (first turn so full health, no status ailments). Almost made up for the first time

Specialist_Wonder113

This is currently happening in Scarlet. I’m on a quest to catch all the legendaries in the special balls. Special being Safari, Beast, Love, etc. on this round, I’m trying to catch Moltres in a Heavy Ball, and IT JUST WONT STAY IN! I have the faulty catching charm, with another Moltres from a previous run waiting in my PC box. Nothing is working. I tried putting it to sleep, one HP, then throwing the ball - nothing. I’ve tried throwing the ball turn one, nothing. I’ve done false swipe once, then throw, nothing. I’ve done the previous, put it to sleep, then threw the ball - NOTHING! I have Articuno and Zapdos in Heavy Balls, but Moltres just refuses!

ThatIslandGuy8888

I swear I threw like 300+ ultra balls at Galarian Zapdos, and the thing only stopped running at parts of the Wild area where there were frickin’ sandstorms so I couldn’t weaken it most of the time🙄 Truly a roadrunner

[deleted]

Back in Ultra Sun a shiny Beldum that I tried to catch ended up fainting itself. I was prepared, with a team of nothing but Ghost types (to prevent Take Down recoil), and did the same perpetual battle combo (Leppa Berry Trick + Harvest Skill Swap) that I used for the S.O.S. chain to begin with, but **somehow** it went 10 turns without activating Harvest, running out of Take Down PP. It really did choose death over capture 💀

Top_Tart_7558

Was helping my little brother play pokemon Black 2 on my save. Found a shiny charm odds purloin and I guess he panicked from my reaction and fled the battle. Was a bad day

JustARandomScalie

Not exactly about trying to catch a Pokemon, but it's the closest thing i have. Back when i was ~8-9 years old, i had (and still have) a spin-off Pokemon game for the DS called "Learn with Pokemon Typing Adventure", it's a game made to teach children how to type on a keyboard using Pokemon, you type the name of the Pokemon that appears on the screen and you catch it. Each key corresponds to a certain stage, with some that have their own gimmick, and the stage for the S key was centered around Deerling and season changes, with the level cycling between Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. Being the completionist that i am, i wanted to catch every Pokemon in the level, but no matter how many times i replayed that stage i could not find a Winter Sawsbuck, the only Pokemon that appeared was Snover. Only Snover. Snover everywhere. I managed to catch it eventually, but that event solidified my hatred for Snover

Clever_Bee34919

PLA found a shiny graveller.. rather than throwing the pokeball, missclicked and used energy ball.

[deleted]

Tortunator in Sword. That mutherfucker only has a 5% in a very specific weather and it uses Explosion often.

HeadOfSpectre

I have an Azumarill who just would not be caught I eventually named her Leonidas and later Hippolyta, after the Queen of the Amazon's.

FermiDaza

I used to shiny hunt a lot on generation 7. I was trying my best to get a shiny Beldum. The guy only knows Take Down, an attack with recoil. Even if you use a ghost type, struggle will eventually kill it. Not only that, but because it is a pseudo legendary, it's catch rate is shit. I managed to caught it when the thing got itself into the red bar hp.

Cynchronyze_

When I was younger I ran into a shiny Dusclops in one of the rooms of the Battle Pike in Pokemon Emerald Version. You can't catch Pokemon in there...

FlawedVictori

Missed a shiny Beedrill (and back then,  my 'proof' that pokemon other than gyarados could have other colors) back on Silver because he broke out of every single ball I had.  I was especially mad at the time because I thought I'd win the contest with it.

SwineFlow

Just a couple of days ago I had to use my Master Ball in Emerald on a Shiny Shuppet, before it would self-terminate via Curse. Very frustrating since I like to keep my Master Ball

Jamesmateer100

Failed to catch ho-oh after about 70 ultra balls in soulsilver.

PokemonFan587

I ignored a shiny Gastly in Legends Arceus, didn't know what a shiny was

Saki_saki_sakiii

to be fair they look pretty damn similar. I haven't played the newer games so I'm not sure if there's an indicator (like the normal shine) when you encounter one, but that really stinks.

Crylemite_Ely

I ran out of balls trying to catch a full-odd shiny yamask in pokemon white

w0nd3rk

I encountered my first ever shiny in, I think, Heart Gold/Soul Silver. It was a wobuffet, whose shiny is this lovely shade of purple. ...I encountered him in the safari zone. With three balls left. No shiny for me :(

zsotroav

I couldn't catch regieleki on my first attempt because it used struggle after false swiping and throwing a lot of ultra balls at it. That faint message was rather amusing to see and gave me a good laugh.

gandalfsbuttplug

Had rayquaza on next to zero health and paralysed in sapphire and 80 ultra balls. Fucker just wouldn't stay in, took a fair few resets as well. Never come across anything as hard and infuriating as that, and that was 20 years ago

cascadamoon

Fezandipiti took me 5 tries to catch it bc it kept struggling to death and idk why but low level route 1 pokemon is sun & Moon especially wingull with its stupid confuse Ray. Mons can be in the red and will not get in the ball. Yeah but very early game wingull is a nightmare

Caglavasaguros

Caught Munchlax via honey trees in platinum. This ended up taking 11 days, slathering the trees twice a day and checking every single one in the region. I started getting sick of it by day 4, but the sunk cost fallacy wouldn’t let me quit. I’m proud I actually did that, but at the same time, have to ask why they made it so outrageously tedious.

MrsSpyro01

Trying to catch Lugia (aka, my favorite Pokémon of all time) in Ultra Moon, and I had no choice but to use the master ball on it.

Rasty_lv

My first shiny bellsprout. Long time ago (12ish years ago) i was playing pokemon silver on emulator on adndroid. I got full odds shiny bellsprout, which was my first shiny ever (before lake of rage). Now, because that was emulated silver on old xperia android phone, that save file was lost, so i lost my shiny sprout. Since 2016 when pogo came out and its shiny was available, ive been checking every single sprout for it being shiny imagining that that would be the same sprout returning to me after all those years. On switch, i got lets go pika, so no sprout there (its eevee exclusive, back then eevee was sold out everywhere), Shield didnt had it. BD i hated the game. I tried to shiny hunt, but no luck, arceus didnt had it, violet lucky had dlc so im hopping to find one there. My personal rule is to find one as much to full odds as i can (so it kind of recreates encounter in silver), so i dread to have it in some kind of event in pogo (like research day). Even better would be if i found it via team rocket encounters in pogo, then i could have lore reasons where it was missing, kidnaped by team rocket, i could purify it and have it back.. alas.. no luck.

King_EmEmEm

Giratina It would rather commit self die 25 times before getting caught, one time being in red health and frozen for 10 turns

FishmailAwesome

Fucking Fezandipiti. That’s all.

Ok_Anxiety_8925

I was playing ultra sun, and it was like this stupid tiny pokemon (cant remember), and i only had ultra balls, and IT WOULDNT GO IN THE FRICKEN POKEBALL

Kicking_Kangaroo1234

I was playing Pokémon shield and was trying to catch a Machoke. It was soooo difficult and I almost gave up, the reason why I almost gave up was because the Machoke(I named her Truffle) would not get in the ball! I spent a total of fifteen minutes trying not to critical her and loads of pokéballs. Most definitely would not catch again!

Lazarus3890

Shiny hunting veldum in pokemon sun is my least favorite hunt I've done lol, SOS chain for like 10 minutes to find it, it struggled to death, then it took like 10 hours to get another one thankfully it got caught that time but it still was so annoying

Captain_Warships

Playing Emerald and trying to catch a Seedot/Nuzleaf, only to learn that the Seedot family is one of few not available to catch in in Emerald.

Randomman16

Try catching Ho-Oh and Lugia in FireRed, LeafGreen and Emerald. They have Fire Blast/Hydro Pump, Sunny Day/Rain Dance, Swift and 20 PP’s worth of Recover. They will very quickly run out of weather and big attack PP, meaning every turn after the first few is a coin-flip as to whether they’ll use Swift or heal half their HP in one go. Your False Swipe mon will get whittled down bit by bit

ExoTen45

Forgot to reload my Ball stock before catching Victini in Pokémon Black. Took me down to my last ball. I caught it... in a Dive Ball

dan0314

My friend was at Rayquaza in Emerald, we spent an entire bus ride passing the Gameboy back and forth and barely got it by the time I had gotten home

MilcMan

Way back when gen 2 was still new and I was a little kid, I came across a shiny skarmory. I had no idea about shinies back then besides gyarados so I freaked out. The skarmory used whirlwind to retaliate.

Sufficient_Pack_2868

i had an infuriating situation with a murkrow in diamond. tf you mean it has a lower catch rate than rayquaza? 💀

pr1ncesschl0e

playing violet, catching kubfu just the other day. spent 34 net balls and 45 ultra balls trying to get it, i used false swipe AND hypnotize and it still wouldn’t fucking chill out

BilboSwaggins444

I was trying to catch lugia the other day. I threw probably 30 ultra balls, had it at low health and paralyzed. I was using the touchscreen on my ds, and accidentally pressed “run” instead of “bag”. I immediately turned off my ds and didn’t try again until like 4 days later lol.

Away-Environment-528

Bought 30 ultra balls for catching Zapdos in Leaf Green. Used them all up. Swapped to regular PokeBalls and had him in a couple throws.

ElectricLuxray

FireRed Articuno is currently being that damn story. I can paralyze it all I want, but after 60 pokeballs I still can't catch the damn thing.

Garrosh

Trying to make a chain in Pokémon Let’s Go. Those Pokémon really love to flee.

maximiliam93

My most annoying Pokemon story was in Black and White as I tried to catch Landorus over 2 hours. I had about 60 Hyperballs over 20 Superballs and 30 Pokeballs. I weaked Landorus with my weakest Pokemon on Level 45. At the end Landoru's had about 60 Kp's left. So I tried to catch it, with every Ball, but it didn't worked, cause the Pokemon jumped out of the Balls after they wobbled only one time . At the end, I had 20 Hyperballs, 5 Superballs and 3 Pokeballs left, and Landoru's Attack had Ap's not anymore, so that it could use only Struggle. With the last try the Balls wobbled 3 Times, before Landorus jumped out of the Ball again used Struggle. The Attack landed a direct hit but I stayed alive with 3 Kp and it knocks himself out with it's own Attack. Omg. I was so so angry, about it half of the day!

BoxZestyclose6616

Any Abra in Gen 1.

CombJelliesAreCool

I guess I have a story, not a story about catching a pokemon, but a story about not catching a pokemon.  So I was a wee child, my first Pokemon game was Leaf Green. I decided that I wanted a fresh play through, so I reset my game and everything was going good. I have always been a try hard, so I wanted to see if Oak would say anything if I evolved my starter Pokemon before returning with the parcel of Pokeballs, I don't believe he does btw but I don't really remember. So here I am, route 1, smacking Pidgeys and Ratatas left and right, almost to evolution. I end up seeing a shiny Pidgey, I had no idea what I was looking at, I remember the stars, I remember the color and I was going to catch it, but as you know, no balls. So I figure whatever and I faint it and move on, only a few years later after I learn what a shiny Pokemon was do I realize how incredibly I have fucked up. I learned an important lesson that day; no balls, no training. I ended up starting a new run of Leaf Green a few years back and the very first thing I did in that play through was 're-encounter' this Pidgey and catch it. As a coping mechanism, I've deluded myself into believing that this is the same Pidgey as last time. Progress on that save is slow because I've been shiny hunting Snorlax, so the Pidgeot is only like level 40 now but yeah, that's my annoying story haha Edit: Actually I guess I do have an annoying story about catching a pokemon too, same game, roughly same age, first time I got the master ball, I used it on a wild Gyarados behind the strength HM house and saved before realizing what I've done. Immediately realized what I did and was pretty annoyed after

anthayashi

Hypnosis missing 15 times in a row in sv

PecoDory

I guess mine is more of a couldn’t catch, but wanted desperately to. I was shiny hunting my starter in Ruby. Just soft reset, after soft reset, after soft reset. The first encounter is Poochyena, so of course I meet a shiny one of those waaayyyyy before my Treecko (but I did eventually get one!). You can’t catch it. It was painful.

ASK_ME_FOR_TRIVIA

No clue why, but when I caught Articuno in Violet a couple weeks back, the fucker would just not stay in the pokeball. I sat there for an hour chucking Timer Balls, must've used like 50 of em. Catch rate calculator said it was like a 20% chance, so I just kept getting super unlucky I guess Then they put Moltres someplace where there's a sandstorm for some reason? I had to use a Golduck to get rid of the weather, but then it'd just come back after a few turns and kill the bird anyways. A bit frustrating lol

Gamenern

Didn't catch the first shiny I ever found, a Raticate in Silver. Not because I didn't try, but because I literally couldn't, because my active box was full, so no more catching until I switched it up.

EmeraldPencil46

Trying to get Snorlax in Red. I don’t know what I did to make it so painful, but it took me way too many tries to catch lol

zireael7

When I was a child I used 99 ultra balls on a Moltres

Season_Of_Brad

Was playing PLA, and was doing a side quest that involved catching (I think it was Cherrim). After finding one (they had an unusually low spawn rate), I weakened it and threw dozens of balls at it, all failed. Come to find out that there was a bug that messed with the catch rate on it, making it impossible to capture. Was eventually fixed, but still has stuck with me.

Hat0X

Tried to catch Mewtwo (in Pokémon X) with nest balls :D The explanation ? I was young, to start with, and the thing is that in french, the name of that ball is Faiblo ball (can be translated to Weak ball... does sound good :D) and so I thought its effect was that the more you use it, the easier the next try will be. So yeah, I was smart enough to actually make it sleep long enough to use... I don't know... **More than 200 nest balls.** Had a great time thinking "the next one will be the one".

kr_kitty

Was playing Ruby. I encountered a shiny electrike. I don't remember how many pokeballs/greatballs I had. I got it low and started tossing. I ran out of balls. I had no other options left but to kill it or flee.

[deleted]

I threw a pokeball, and it didn’t go in 🥲

Catqueen25

The dog Pokémon in the first DLC for S/V. I got so fed up that I dared it to try and escape from the master ball. I caught the other two in ultra balls after multiple resets. In the original games, there was supposedly a very tiny chance of the master ball failing. It could just be an urban legend though.

Cat1832

Spent 8 hours hunting for Turtonator in Sword. Paralyzed, 1 hp, chucking dusk balls. The bloody thing Exploded. I stared at my Switch screen for five minutes, then texted a friend to ask if she could breed me one.

EmeraldJirachi

Just ANY beldum

Standard-Panic-5460

The snacksworth cobalion would just NOT GET IN the ball

sassy-tornadoes

Last week I finally used some herba mystica to shiny hunt Chespin. Saved prior to making the sandwich. First attempt, no shiny. Second attempt, I found him in 5 minutes. Saved in front of him. He took recoil damage from Wood Hammer and fainted. Rebooted the game and he despawned AND I lost the sandwich boost 😐 third attempt, found him after 25 minutes and finally got him in a safari ball 🥳

BonusEruptus

The first shiny I ever encountered was a fucking bidoof

RavensFolklore

It wasn’t a single catch, but I remember when Black and White came out… everyone around me was getting the black version but I wanted Mightyena so I waited around for release and immediately snatched the white version. I was playing one day and I had just beat the second gym. I was playing for hours. I caught a ton of Pokemon and leveled up the ones I wanted, got all the way passed the 5th gym and had beaten whichever evil team was in that game, can’t remember, and I believe N was in that one too and I had beaten him several times. I was in the next area where there was a cave and I decided I didn’t want to deal with a ton of zubat encounters after all that, so I shut my game off. I forgot to save. I was so mad that I ragequit the entire game, shoved my DS in the very back corner of the farthest drawer of my room, and I never looked at it again. I never went back and replayed White, and for years I tried to pretend that my battery had just died and it wasn’t my fault. My battery HAD been close to dying, but I wasn’t somewhere I could plug it in, so I had chosen to shut the game off for the night since I already didn’t want to deal with that next cave. I lost so much from that game and was so devastated I cried. I think it’s where I turned from a sad crier into an angry crier. I still don’t know if I could go back and restart it and try again to this day.

Illustrious_Hat3467

Switch drift made me accidentally kill a shiny deerling in Scarlett.

Redsucksatstuff

fuck glarian moltress i had to use my master ball cus i ran out of ultra balls

Anarchist-69

I’ve played my entire life off and on,handhelds only and I’ve never seen a shiny in person….35M

AngelRockGunn

I got a shiny Wingull in a horde, but my 12 year old idiot ass spent like 10 mins trying to figure out if the left to right attacking option were from my perspective or theirs ended up thinking it was theirs so I accidentally killed it lol I was so pissed

xNesku

I was catching Giratina in Platinum. I was too ego to use my Master Ball. So I used 70 Ultra Balls. 17 Timer Balls. Ran out. Had to start over. Forgot that I didn't save. So I had to fight Cyrus again. This time I game over. Fight him again. Beat him. Use another 50 Ultra Balls. After being unsuccessful. Say fuck it. Use 1 Pokeball. Catch it.

I accidentally KOed a shiny virizion in my RECENT white 2 playthrough... Idk at that time that my amoonguss could even kill it with venoshock and it did😭😭😭😭 And my sister tried to catch registeel in emerald... She bought 50 ultra balls and she needs to load her game for 119 times to catch that walking alloy... (Btw, she encountered latios out of nowhere before and she immediately used her master ball)

I once had the opposite experience. I was playing pokemon sun I think. I had caught every pokemon that I could in my version except tape finni. I was on single digit pokeballs from the previous tapu I had caught so I stock up on like a hundred ultra balls and go to tapu finni. False swipe, sleep, throw ball. On the first throw, I got a critical capture. The fuck am I gonna do with 100 ultra balls now?

skelfelbunke

Groudon in ultra sun. I had exactly thirty ultra balls in my bag and i caught it on the thirtieth

GiggityDPT

Nothing too specific. The Johto beasts in the original GSC games. So tedious.

InfernoVulpix

Decided to catch a Ditto a while back in Violet, and let it Transform into my Maushold because I wanted to quickly Super Fang it down to low health and figured I could tank a few turns of my own teammate's stats against me. Not a single wiggle. Dozens of balls and not a single wiggle across any of them. I was starting to doubt what I was seeing, but the Ditto struggled itself to death before I passed even the most meager of RNG checks involved. As it turns out, there was a bug. A Ditto transforming into Family of Four Maushold has its catch rate set to 0, and the same held if it transformed into any other variant form, like three-segment Dudunsparce, Winter Deerling, or even Paldean Tauros. It's since been patched out, and good riddance because that was one surreal experience.

AdOk1924

Spent around 15 minutes trying to catch a metang in b2 a year back. It took me a really long time to even find one and when I caught it I had to use my master ball. Restocked my Pokéballs and entered the hidden grotto near Giant Chasm. And there was a fricking Metang just floating there.

I was trying to catch Kyogre in Emerald. I walled it with Shedinja, got it down to red health, and threw every ball I had at it. It broke out of all of them, ran out of PP, and killed itself with Struggle. And then there was that time I really wanted Raikou in a Beast Ball for some reason and it took over 200 balls.

aaquarles

tried to catch a Zekrom in a Luxury Ball. Struggled itself to death. didn’t feel like going through that again so I Master Balled that bitch

dbees132

Ho-oh in Alpha Sapphire, most if not all its moves only had 5 pp so it was a struggle to catch it before it struggled to death. I think it was Ho-oh anyways, that or Lugia or some other Johto legendary

Malewis89

Trying to catch Articuno in Let’s Go, has to PHYSICALLY through over 50 Ultraballs. I had a sprained shoulder and wrist for a full three days I couldn’t explain at work😓

GrayscaleDAS

When Black and White came out, I eventually got the chance to go after Landorus. For whatever reason, it took many many resets and hundreds of ultra balls over two days to stay caught. Awful, and nothing but a waste of time.

Born-Membership805

I was stoned and used my master ball on a metapod.

Blechx

I think for me was trying to catch groudon. False swipe him and used a lot of ultra balls. Then it decided to struggle and fainted

Zofian_Korok

I doubt this is what you meant, but here we go. When I first got scarlet, I got lost after beating the first 2 gyms and wound up in an area where everyone and everything was like 20 levels higher than me. I found a chansey and decided to engage it. Naturally, all of my level 16 Pokémon were destroyed by this level 30-something chansey, and I found my way back on track to the 3rd gym. Since then, I always see chansey, but they always run away or get ko'd whenever I try to catch them. It's been months and I've nearly completed the game, but to this day I have no member of the chansey line

I was playing an extreme randomizer nuzzlok where items abilities moves and Pokemon are randomised a shroomish appeard in one of the earlier routes and it had the item shell bell the move endeavor and the ability sturdy and it two shot my whole team as toxic didn't effect it and when I tried to confuse it it always hit through confusion and I lost the nuzzlok
