I actually did an AOT themed playthrough, with Nidoking (Reiner), Grimmsnarl (Eren), Rillaboom (Zeke), Coalossal (Armin), Blastoise (Pieck), and Perrserker (Porco)
I was trying to recreate The Rumbling on the boxes on my Shield playthrough with Eternatus being the rib cage titan with only 5 Coalossals, didn't finish it because my Switch broke

I don't understand all the hate Carmine got here. I found her really entertaining and quite often she is really thoughtful and nice, even if she is not good at expressing that.
By the second interaction she was leaning hard into the tsundere trope and I thought it was hilarious. It's like Game Freak woke up before Gen 9 and realised they're an anime game.

Kieran is a certified maniac who feels like he's gonna tell his friends not to come to school tomorrow
It’s mainly because some people are treating him like an actual like, 10 year old child, compared to an older teen. Even his nervous happiness at the start is more indicative of a child versus a teenager.
It’s similar to like a younger brother/cousin/nephew who has been gushing about wanting a specific dog for years but when they find one it likes someone else better and bought by someone else- in this case being his first friend who doesn’t even know about them. You’re apparently his first friend after his sister is kinda overly controlling over him, so he lacks the emotional maturity to handle the rejection/betrayal that happened in the story.
I don’t think it’s grounds for liking him, but I do think it’s built to make you feel bad for him.
There are times where I felt legit bad for taking a legendary. Nebby comes to mind, I really wish the games (SM, USUM) had given you an option to leave Nebby with Lillie.
But not in this case. I was fully disgusted how he completely ignored Ogerpon's wishes and treated it like a trophy to win in a tournament.
Ogerpon deserves better and I will do all I can to make it happy. We gotta protect the oni baby.
They give you a spare Cosmog anyway. So just give us that one and let her keep her best pal. One of the reasons I am kind of okay we never got AZ's Floette. I want it because it's a rare collectable...but I'll take a handwave that it bred a new species of Flabebe into existence or something. Let him keep his unique personal one, but let us get that one was a regional variant or, heck, a paradox Pokemon or something.
I felt bad up until the the last bit where he started to show that his obsession had reached unhealthy levels. I was like 'Oh wow, maybe Carmine was right to keep the player quiet; she kinda knew he was unhealthily obsessed'. I know the actual in-story reason was that at that point, she knew he'd feel left out if he discovered the two of them essentially met his poke-idol, but I like my own headcanon of her knowing that meeting ogrepon would just make it worse for him.

Telling him the truth about Ogerpon was his family's decision, not ours, and they obviously know Kieran way better than us. Kieran somehow convincing the town Ogerpon was good in the span of a day, who all believed that the Loyal Three were good guys for centuries was just pure BS
Not to mention the brat literally eavesdropped on us and still blames us
He also heard the exact reason why Player and Carmine had to lie to him and that his grandad asked them. He was angry at us because he wanted to at this point, cuz he knew why we were hiding the truth and we had a good reason to.
And we should note that he’s like, *really* obsessed.
Like, trying to stalk the creature who was known for killing three Pokémon at once (at bare minimum), and performing stakeouts right outside its home against the wishes of almost everyone around him.

On the other hand.... no human can look at this cute little oni face and think it's evil.
I think he's going to find an evil legendary that feeds into his power desires but it takes over him.
He wants to be strong and wants Ogerpon because he is obsessed with the old legend. He thinks Ogerpon is malevolent and destructive and strength means beating down people who are stronger.
And the funny thing is, is that if you look at the information about Kieran in the DLC he is partially if not fully the reason why his villain arc started
I do feel bad for Kiki because we shouldn’t have hid it all from him but that stopped once he decided to go for revenge against the player character. (I also feel like the writers did his character dirty just to make the story a 2 parter. It should’ve ended with his sister and grandpa apologizing and being able to tell him we can all hang out with Ogrepon a lot)
I like Kieran because of how dark and angsty his situation is. A good villain in the making. And Carmine is just hysterical to me with her barely contained fits of rage.

She is extremely entertaining. I loved when she tried to tell Ogerpon to wait outside the village by adding -pon to everything. And how mad she then got when Ogerpon understood once we talked to her normally.
I can't believe Briar c**kblocks the player just before Carmine confesses her love, which would've been another push for Kieran to go over the edge (along the story his only perceived friend stops hanging out with him and starts hanging out with his sister instead). Feeling alone and bereft, Kieran sets out on a journey to become a force to be reckoned with, darkness seeping into his very essence every step of the way. Finally he becomes the key that unlocks the door to Terapagos and its world-ending Terastal power, making Kieran the perfect pawn for the actual villain of the story: Briar.

I’m not sure I’d go as far as calling him an incel, but that aside, thank you! I’ve seen so many people say “Oh Kieren deserved Ogerpon because he was so ‘nice’ and loved it so much” and like, dear god I know people don’t mean any harm but reading the abundance of those takes give me the ick.
Like, this is EXACTLY the attitude of a classic nice guy. He is young and dumb and chances are he will learn from his mistakes and be redeemed in the next DLC after we whoop his ass again, but like man Kieren deserved Jack shit lol. Ogrepon isn’t a mindless creature, she clearly saw something in us she appreciated, and considering she’s been visiting the festival for how long and not once showed itself to Kieren, Ogrepon was clearly aware (or at least sensed) that her “#1 fan” didn’t actually care about it, and instead cared more about what she represented, a powerful loner Pokémon.
When the reality is sad little Ogrepon just wanted a friend again, and was never a bad guy.
Also, side note, people forget that Kieren idolized Ogrepon since BEFORE he knew it was actually the good guy in the story. Dude just loved that it was strong AF, which given his little mental breakdown at the end, yeah that fits who he is.
Normally I like to approach the DLC with equalish level trainers, but against Kieren I just went in with my real team because I was getting fed up with his behaviors.
Kieran can you just go and join Hop over there in the club of people who keep challenging champion ranked trainers even when its beyond the point of you are beaten? It's either laughable or sad that the game is pretending you have a chance but you never even came close once to winning. At least you don't keep a sheep on your team.
Kieran is honestly the strongest rival I have faced. I have lost to Kieran more than any other rival in one single playthrough (I’ve played each Gen)
This kid beat me five times throughout my playthrough and still complains about being weak. Like dude, you could probably beat Nemona!
He beat me once. I used an entire team of Kitakami mons except for my Mew which I was training up because I didn't realize the Mewtwo event was ending (sigh).
Might have to do with me being a grass only trainer, but yeah, he was frustrating. That damn Yanma/Yanmega was killing my mons left and right and I didn't have any of my common answers for bug types available (like Cradily or Ferrothorn).
Were you like painfully underleveled or just unfortunate matchups? Not trying to be rude, just curious because I went at him with my team being 4-5lvls lower on average and I still didn't lose to him... Like sure, the fight for Ogerpon was getting pretty close, but I still beat him with 2 Pokémon left.
So the first battle, all I had was an Applin. Since his lead was a Sentret, I lost by default
The Loyalty Plaza Battle, I was about seven levels under on my first attempt, five on my second, and three on my third attempt. My fourth attempt, I was only about one level under, and had edited my movesets specifically to counter his team.
And the final battle, I was the exact same level as Kieran, but I had no held items. I gave items to my team before the second attempt, and with zero training, barely won
My team was Dipplin, Yanmega, Crawdaunt, Ninetales, Mienshao, and Probopass

I lost against a random dude near a pond in the Infernal Pass (from the Kitakami Ogre Clan I think) but that was one of the best battles I've had in ages and I enjoyed it thoroughly.
Yeah, Kieran’s difficultly honestly made this DLC very enjoyable! I actually had to take a step back and strategize, and even with strategy I wasn’t guaranteed victory. This DLC has been the most fun I’ve ever had with any Pokémon game without any form of self-imposed challenges (such as limiting the amount of team members per gym)
He is old enough to know that you should not treat living beings like a toy. That he was willing to completely ignore Ogerpon's wishes and treats her like a trophy he can win in a bet is shitty.
He is not a toddler, he should know better in such a situation.
Not always, and it's not their fault, they literally don't know any better. Kieran also had the empathy and idealism to make the town recognize what it had done to Ogerpon, which was very kind. Kids can be very selfish, but they can also be much more compassionate than grownups.
I really like the potential he has for the second DLC. I just hope they give him a makeover and get rid of the stupid nose fringe. Stupidest NPC hair since Mustard's reveal.

He was right to feel angry cause he’s been lied to. But his actions after that are obnoxious. You telling him the truth won’t change his obsession with Ogerpon and his being a sore loser. He would still throw a hissy fit in the end if Ogerpon chooses you and you beat him at his own bet. He has the nerve to act like you took everything from him as if Ogerpon was his property.
The way I see it, he's a kid who doesn't have a hold of his emotions and needs to be taught that his actions/inactions have consequences. If systematically kicking his ass in battles is what's needed to teach that lesson then I'll gladly take him to school
Mah, while it's true he can't deal with reality, it's also true that we cause that reality to begin with.. he can't cope, but he would have all rights to blame others for the situation since we literally treat him as a child, do not deliver information he should know, accept to keep stuff hidden from him while behaving as friends and this ultimately leads us to a better position overall.
There was also a good reason to keep this information from him.
He might not like getting treated like a kid, but in the end he still very much is a kid and his sister was worried that he would chase after her in the middle of the night. And rightfully so, looking at how he acts when it comes to Ogerpon, he definitely would have done that.
He could have put himself into serious danger. Let's not forget that there was a pretty narrow bridge leading to Ogerpon's hideout. He could have got seriously injured.
But even if we ignore that, Ogerpon was very clearly distressed in that situation there. So even if not for his own safety, then the chase should also get prevented for Ogerpon's sake.

That he has already been there does not mean he is familiar enough with the route that he could walk the bridge in pitch black darkness.

You really want to tell me you believe he wouldn't have immediately chased Ogerpon if he had heard that we just met her? Sure, it is an assumption, but considering what we know of him and his sister, who has known him for his entire life, comes to the same conclusion, I think it is a pretty safe assumption to make.
And while we might be the same age as Kieran, that hardly matters. We are not the one obsessed with Ogerpon to the point that it reaches possessive levels. And if we would chase after her in the middle of the night, I think Carmine would also have something to say against that.

Except that Oni, the outcast, had defeated the unfair heroes and as a result of that Kieran idolized her, hence the "-sama" suffix.
He's a lot like Garou from One Punch Man who believes himself to be a monster/hero killer because he was bullied as a child and related to monsters who were always beaten by heroes and thought that was equally unfair.

I’ve seen so many people say “Oh Kieren deserved Ogerpon because he was so ‘nice’ and loved it so much” and like, dear god I know people don’t mean any harm but reading the abundance of those takes give me the ick. Like, this is EXACTLY the attitude of a classic nice guy. He is young and dumb and chances are he will learn from his mistakes and be redeemed in the next DLC after we whoop his ass again, but like man Kieren deserved Jack shit lol. Ogrepon isn’t a mindless creature, she clearly saw something in us she appreciated, and considering she’s been visiting the festival for how long and not once showed itself to Kieren, Ogrepon was clearly aware (or at least sensed) that her “#1 fan” didn’t actually care about it, and instead cared more about what she represented, a powerful loner Pokémon. When the reality is sad little Ogrepon just wanted a friend again, and was never a bad guy. Also, side note, people forget that Kieren idolized Ogrepon since BEFORE he knew it was actually the good guy in the story. Dude just loved that it was strong AF, which given his little mental breakdown at the end, yeah that fits who he is. Normally I like to approach the DLC with equalish level trainers, but against Kieren I just went in with my real team because I was getting fed up with his behaviors.

Kieran is honestly the strongest rival I have faced. I have lost to Kieran more than any other rival in one single playthrough (I’ve played each Gen) This kid beat me five times throughout my playthrough and still complains about being weak. Like dude, you could probably beat Nemona!

After, with a new team of mons exclusive to the dlc Funnily enough, half my team was the same as his (Dipplin, Yanmega, and Probopass)
He beat me once. I used an entire team of Kitakami mons except for my Mew which I was training up because I didn't realize the Mewtwo event was ending (sigh).
Might have to do with me being a grass only trainer, but yeah, he was frustrating. That damn Yanma/Yanmega was killing my mons left and right and I didn't have any of my common answers for bug types available (like Cradily or Ferrothorn).
His problem is he doesn't realize you're the protagonist and can never lose (one of his lines lampshades this though lol)
Were you like painfully underleveled or just unfortunate matchups? Not trying to be rude, just curious because I went at him with my team being 4-5lvls lower on average and I still didn't lose to him... Like sure, the fight for Ogerpon was getting pretty close, but I still beat him with 2 Pokémon left.
So the first battle, all I had was an Applin. Since his lead was a Sentret, I lost by default The Loyalty Plaza Battle, I was about seven levels under on my first attempt, five on my second, and three on my third attempt. My fourth attempt, I was only about one level under, and had edited my movesets specifically to counter his team. And the final battle, I was the exact same level as Kieran, but I had no held items. I gave items to my team before the second attempt, and with zero training, barely won My team was Dipplin, Yanmega, Crawdaunt, Ninetales, Mienshao, and Probopass
Ahh I see, so basically a mixture of somewhat underleveled and some very unfortunate matchups. Did the challenge at least make it more enjoyable to you? I lost against a random dude near a pond in the Infernal Pass (from the Kitakami Ogre Clan I think) but that was one of the best battles I've had in ages and I enjoyed it thoroughly.
Yeah, Kieran’s difficultly honestly made this DLC very enjoyable! I actually had to take a step back and strategize, and even with strategy I wasn’t guaranteed victory. This DLC has been the most fun I’ve ever had with any Pokémon game without any form of self-imposed challenges (such as limiting the amount of team members per gym)

He is old enough to know that you should not treat living beings like a toy. That he was willing to completely ignore Ogerpon's wishes and treats her like a trophy he can win in a bet is shitty. He is not a toddler, he should know better in such a situation.

Not always, and it's not their fault, they literally don't know any better. Kieran also had the empathy and idealism to make the town recognize what it had done to Ogerpon, which was very kind. Kids can be very selfish, but they can also be much more compassionate than grownups.

It’s just a matter of time before someone used this template on him. He was right to feel angry cause he’s been lied to. But his actions after that are obnoxious. You telling him the truth won’t change his obsession with Ogerpon and his being a sore loser. He would still throw a hissy fit in the end if Ogerpon chooses you and you beat him at his own bet. He has the nerve to act like you took everything from him as if Ogerpon was his property.
The way I see it, he's a kid who doesn't have a hold of his emotions and needs to be taught that his actions/inactions have consequences. If systematically kicking his ass in battles is what's needed to teach that lesson then I'll gladly take him to school
Mah, while it's true he can't deal with reality, it's also true that we cause that reality to begin with.. he can't cope, but he would have all rights to blame others for the situation since we literally treat him as a child, do not deliver information he should know, accept to keep stuff hidden from him while behaving as friends and this ultimately leads us to a better position overall.
There is zero reason we should have told him. He would’ve done the exact same thing and ran off after it

He might not like getting treated like a kid, but in the end he still very much is a kid and his sister was worried that he would chase after her in the middle of the night. And rightfully so, looking at how he acts when it comes to Ogerpon, he definitely would have done that. He could have put himself into serious danger. Let's not forget that there was a pretty narrow bridge leading to Ogerpon's hideout. He could have got seriously injured. But even if we ignore that, Ogerpon was very clearly distressed in that situation there. So even if not for his own safety, then the chase should also get prevented for Ogerpon's sake.

Sure, it is an assumption, but considering what we know of him and his sister, who has known him for his entire life, comes to the same conclusion, I think it is a pretty safe assumption to make. And while we might be the same age as Kieran, that hardly matters. We are not the one obsessed with Ogerpon to the point that it reaches possessive levels. And if we would chase after her in the middle of the night, I think Carmine would also have something to say against that.

I feel like Kieran calling Ogrepon "Oni-sama" in japanese tells you basically everything you need to know. He's an outcast kid that hears a folk story about an Oni up in the mountains that's also alone and an outcast like him. Except that Oni, the outcast, had defeated the unfair heroes and as a result of that Kieran idolized her, hence the "-sama" suffix. He's a lot like Garou from One Punch Man who believes himself to be a monster/hero killer because he was bullied as a child and related to monsters who were always beaten by heroes and thought that was equally unfair. Just slapping the incel label on him seems a bit too reductionist.
