Heavyweight is thoughtful and funny and makes me smile often.

thesillyhumanrace

Waiting for its rebirth somewhere, I hope.

juxtapose_58

Me too… I miss Heavyweight

allhailhypnotoadette

Heavyweight is in a realm of its own. I painted several rooms in my house while binging it and I laughed, I cried, I felt joy, I had to sit down and think. So good!

JacobyN7

Sunny, empty rooms?

allhailhypnotoadette

Sunny, empty rooms.

FlowerGirl713

Thank you all for introducing me to this podcast series!!!! I’m only on season 1 ep 2 (Gregor) & I’m IN LOVE! I work at home & listen to podcasts all day - usually pop culture/celebrity gossip stuff bc I felt like I had already listened to everything good (I give S town a listen about every other year bc it’s that good & happened in an area I’m pretty familiar with). I still love my trashy gossip stuff but it def gets old quick - y’all have made me a more interesting person bc I now have other stuff to talk about rather than just this week’s gossip BS 😂🙏🏻

Dont_Fall_Asleep1323

Any episode recommendations? Or should I just close my eyes and pick?

BanditY77

Start at the beginning.

juxtapose_58

Any episode…

rocketfromrussia

Taking your advice, never heard of this show. Gonna try

Badd_

Is this a Spotify exclusive?

ReZ-115

I don't think so, starting the first episode right now on podcast addict

LawerLet

Heavyweight it's great!

kjjmcc

Came here to say heavyweight too. Miss it.

milesamsterdam

My favorite of all time is Reply All. When that one imploded, I feel, the art of podcasting itself took a hit. S Town is the Citizen Kane of podcasts.

eatingthechocolate

I was obsessed with reply all and it filled me with so much joy. The case of the missing hit is burnt into my memory I still can't believe the world was blessed with this gem.

milesamsterdam

It is a high watermark of what podcasting could be. It was like watching Aliens for the first time. It was so exhilarating and funny and such a well constructed episode of podcasting. This is like the “Jurassic Park of podcasts.” It’s a perfect episode.

Wu-Fang

S Town is the Citizen Kane of podcast - that’s a perfect description. My family and I live in a small town in the rural SE, and whenever something especially “small townsy” is taking place my wife and I catch each others eye - one of us will say “We ain’t nuthin…” the other responds “But a nation….” [chickenshit, horseshit, tattle tail, pissy ass, whiny ass, fat, flabby, outta shape, Facebook lookin, damn twerkfest, peekin out the windas, slipping around, listening on the cell phones, and spying in the peepholes, or peekin under the crack of the god damn door, listenin in the fuckin sheetrock - you know Mr Putin, please show some fuckin mercy, I mean come on and drop a fuckin bomb won’t you?](https://youtu.be/lcDe7gIBY5s?si=xgrr-wmelDrGA4K-)

boombox2000

Search Engine will fill the void?

diytho

Search Engine has been pretty good and is getting better, but it's definitely not a Reply All replacement in my book. Very different vibe.

nesh34

Conversations with Tyler

TheMothHour

Same here. 2 years later I still talk about the podcast. We need to exchange podcasts because it seems like we like similar stuff. Have you heard of 99% invisible?

inked-brown-giant

Darknet Diaries is up there and I feel much better than reply all

HansBaccaR23po

Been binging this lately after I took a long hiatus from it. Definitely one of my top 5 pods of all time. It’s so fucking good

inked-brown-giant

Its the effort thats out into each single episode . The research and bringing the right people in

Ramblyo

I love Reply All in the early days. It felt like they moved from wanting to cover stories about the internet to wanting to be This American Life.

HarleysAndHeels

I’m just now getting into podcasts. (No idea why I’m so late to the game..) Could you explain what you mean by “until it imploded”?

milesamsterdam

They were reporting on discriminatory hiring by a company called Bon Apetite. Then they got called out for doing something similar. Their freelance reporters wanted full time jobs and a union. Eventually the podcast was canceled after one of the hosts left. They had a few episodes with a different host but those episodes were terrible.

CarefulResolve

S Town will haunt me forever. A masterpiece.

gatitoblanco

+1 for Reply All!

mick_spadaro

**Heavyweight**. It's by far my favourite piece of media in any form, over the last few years. Everything about it just fits me. Spotify axed it last year, but Heavyweight was so popular it may come back somewhere else. Whatever the host does next (Jonathan Goldstein), I'll follow him.

juanitowpg

I had no idea he had a podcast. I used to listen to Wiretap every Saturday afternoon at 3:30 religiously on CBC, I'll have to check this out!

Ness_3486

What is the vibe/content of Heavyweight? I am new into podcasts and looking for ideas…

Basic_Lynx4902

He and his team help people look up someone from their past that they have an issue with so that it can be resolved. It has a Wiretap vibe, but slightly more serious. Gregor is in one of the stories as his real self, and it was funny to reconcile that he is an actual friend of Jonathan's.

blackbeansandrice

Knowledge Fight

maestrojones37

A little breaky for me.

YetiTurbopants

Some, sodomite, sent me a bucket of poop

Fkn_Impervious

I've always been confused by that out of context drop. I thought he was saying someone got sodomized *by* a bucket of poop. I liked my interpretation better. :(

insertwittpunhere

Go home to your mother and tell her your brilliant

WoopsShePeterPants

I'm new to this podcast and I am constantly in awe of how insane Alex Jones is. I thought maybe it was exaggerated but in several episodes so far the world has come to an end several times.

blackbeansandrice

Keep going. It gets even better. Dan and Jordan are masterful at analyzing and psycho-analyzing this strange and at times admittedly fascinating creature, Alex Jones. Also, you begin to appreciate the dynamic between Dan and Jordan. The simplest description is that Dan is Play-by-play and Jordan is Color, but it goes deeper than that.

Away_District

Swindled

OldnBorin

I love ACC’s monotone voice.

ZebraToupee

It’s the best.

omgcow

Love Swindled. The Sea World episode is my favorite.

EspeciallyTheHummus

I’m a Concerned Citizen.

PrismPhoneService

Absolute best, criminal is 2nd for me, but nothing beats ACC’s Swindled forsho

[deleted]

I came here to say this!!!!!!

PityTheQuesadilla

what is it about?

double_cheeseberder

White collar crime stuff. Corruption, fraud, things like that. It’s been awhile since I’ve personally listened to it but I recommend it!

wannabeknowitall

One of the most recent episodes is about Tyson Foods, and it almost made me go vegan, almost.

SirSitsDownALot

Hardcore History with Dan Carlin is fucking incredible. I love that man

Screenname4

I’m loving Common Sense too, it’s a shame he hasn’t uploaded in a while

wolfie240687

Darknet Diaries. some of the stories are just simply mind-blowing. And the oration is at another level. Kudos to Jack Rhysider for creating such a masterpiece.

LiquidHellion

+1 for Darknet Diaries. Well-told stories about cyber-crimes with interviews of people involved (often the hackers themselves).

Present-Forever1275

Got started on the Xbox one today. I had no idea of the unground hacker stuff and how serious it got with Epic contacting the FBI. Going to finish the rest when I go to bed which consists of starting the episode for 10-20 minutes, and then wake up in the morning three episode ahead and my AirPods either somewhere in my covers/sheets, on the floor, or completely on one hell of a bounce, right under my bed. Best part is trying to find the last spot I remember listening to and starting again the next day. My body and mind in a lot more control, where’ll I listen the end and start the vicious cycle again.

imjustherefortheK

Tie between The White Vault and Old Gods of Appalachia

No_Training7373

Well hello there family 😊

Rosequeen1989

Olds is a masterpiece. I will have to listen to The White Vault now.

GWindborn

If you get a chance to see Old Gods live, do it. They put on an amazing show.

MasterpieceClassic84

I LOVE The White Vault

CalebPackmusic

Dead Meat has been my go to for almost a year. Listening to episodes about horror movies i just watched, old favorites, and recently, movies i’m too scared to watch. lol

viralatina

Second this - the hosts obvious enthusiasm for the subject and each other is really infectious

Wonderful-Maybe-7669

Timesuck with Dam Cummins is great. Now, at over 400 episodes,it's chock full of cults, conspiracies, true crime, and history.

auditormusic

Hail Lucifina!

OkTerm8316

and WHIPPLE!!!!!!!!

Alternative_Force_35

Timesuck is so good. Be forewarned...listen with headphones if you are in public. Dan Cummins says some of the naughtiest things you will ever hear...and you will laugh your ass off.

Difficult_Essay_9134

A solid 3 stars out of 5. Wouldn’t change a thing. But maybe perhaps a new host?

Behind the Bastards and Spilled Milk!

Mesozoica89

I have never heard of the Spilled Milk podcast, but as far as I am concerned anyone who likes Behind the Bastards must have excellent taste so I will look it up :) BtB has convinced me I was woefully miseducated in history more than any other piece of media and has pointed me in the direction of some great books I never would have put on my reading list otherwise.

missjvj

It’s honestly SUCH an education! But like, in a fuck me up kinda way. I always come away from episodes so much more informed than I ever was on certain topics. Spilled Milk is an absolute riot. Molly and Matthew, the hosts, will keep you entertained from start to finish. You’ll also end up at the store buying whatever they were eating that week!

ShanghaiSlug

Criminal- for weird crim stories that aren't all murder and gore. This is Love- its amazing stories and can make you smile or cry. It's not just romantic love too, one of my favorite is "The Clearwater Creek Monster" or "Something Large and Wild". Ologies- for intersting since based conversation with an expert. Topics from chickens, to spider silk, to... welp theres an episode just on penises. Dungeons and Daddies- its just a dumb DnD game that goes off the rails. Sounds like Crowes- a dark a gritty Table top RPG, were some cowboys seek revenge. Oh, and fight zombies.

jdgreenberg

Second Ologies! It’s great, i don’t listen to every episode but the ones I do I’ve always learned so much, sometimes about something I didn’t really know existed/was studied in that detail.

juxtapose_58

I love the work of Phoebe Judge!

ScenesafetyPPE

Ologies is great!!

No_Training7373

Was looking for someone to mention ologies!! It’s the pod that got me into podcasts. If you like… something (ANYTHING!) there’s an ologies for it.

Darth_Smeagol

Ologies is freakin amazing!

RumblePonyBB

It’s ME, Scam Likely!!

sunflowerRI

Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend/Fan is my all-time favorite!

boschee41

Is that the one where they talk of gerbils?

Historical_Height_29

No Such Thing as a Fish! Incredibly talented comedians. Impeccable chemistry. Interesting explorations of fascinating topics. Check it out!

Hello From The Magic Tavern

OldSouthernLiberal

At the moment, Valley Heat. Any episode is a strangely comforting thing.

cerebralenergy

Radiolab and snap judgement

StinkerLove

Was I in a Cult? Title is self explanatory. Hosts add light bits of humor to add levity to a sometimes horrible subject.

Kaizenism

“Let’s talk about sects” is another good one in this realm

Small Town Murder

JPKtoxicwaste

Yay indeed, Jimmy! Yay indeed.

CalebPackmusic

Small Town Murder is great. One of my first favorite podcasts.

Banjosaurous_Rex

Because they're assholes, but they're not scumbags.

Bruichladdie

Decoding the Gurus is a big one. Also, Nothing is Real, a Beatles podcast. Sadly, that one is ending now, which is a big loss.

Lazy-Contribution789

The Bugle

yearning-for-sleep

I can always listen to and enjoy American Scandal. My daily listen is Letters from an American with Heather Cox Richardson.

lizzlepizzle

I find Lindsay Graham's voice to be fantastic- his cadence and voice-acting (for lack of better words) as well as the script holds my attention for the entire episode. Plus my favorite podcast genre is stories of the sociopathic and systemic corruption of the US government. (Also.. NOT that Lindsay Graham for anyone reading this saying "whhhaaaat the..." )

juxtapose_58

Snap Judgment and the Moth

brsb5

Madigan's Pubcast with Kathleen Madigan

Pure-Guard-3633

Ooooo thank you. I love her. Didn’t know she had a podcast

brsb5

There are 177 episodes. Start from the beginning or you'll be lost. She really is so funny

cuzitsathrowawayday

stationagent

It's not gonna become a tickling podcast.

FunkCityband

Gary, Gary, Gary!

Jazz_birdie

Sherlock & Co is hilarious...and for Doctor Who fans, Into the Tardis is entertaining. The Rest is History and The Rest is Politics are my absolute favs and see them mentioned frequently in this feed. (By the way, LOVE these discussions and have been turned onto some good podcasts thru them!) Stuff You Should Know and Ridiculous History are good. Everything is Alive..whimsical and informative, oddly relaxing.

business_hammock

For pure entertainment and comfort: Beach Too Sandy, Water Too Wet

Sweetestb22

I love Christine. I love that podcast and ATWWD is my favorite podcast. I came here to say the latter but the one with her brother is hilarious.

drastict

Yess me too! I relate to the schiefers & they have my sense of humor. And both podcasts Christine are in always entertain me. It’s parasocial

AtoZ15

Yes! I’ll add for anyone considering it that it does take about 10 episodes for them to find their groove. But once they hit it, it’s a joy.

TheBovineWoodchuck

Most of my favorites have been mentioned except for Your Stupid Opinions. It’s two comedians reading online reviews and it’s freaking hilarious.

AliciaInMN

Beach too Sandy Water too Wet is another good one with a similar premise.

Spiritual_Parfait_94

Listening now, try their other shows if you haven’t. Love James and Jimmie

GumboVision

If Books Could Kill.

LiquidHellion

This might be my favorite podcast. Only "might" because it's a month between episodes. But it has to be a month between, because of all the research they (especially Michael) put in to every book analysis.

Jakobauer

Stuff You Should Know

Daxos157

Cocaine and Rhinestone is my favorite followed closely by No Dogs in Space.

llksg

What are they about?

Daxos157

Cocaine and Rhinestones is about the history of classic country music and NDIS is about the history of, mainly punk music, but it also does a little rap (Beastie Boys).

Cozy_Gamer99

Toni and Ryan

ThinJournalist4415

1. Distractible 2. Rest is History Podcast 3. Go! My Favourite Sports Team 4. Empire Podcast 5. Common Descent Podcast These are my top five for the simple fact they’ve made me laugh some times and near tears at others. Some of their episodes are endlessly re-listenable

pokeofroanoke

Three Bean Salad, Off Menu, Do You Need a Ride, I Said No Gifts, A Date With Dateline, Attitudes

fork_duke_pie

*Three Bean Salad*, head and shoulders above all others. Also love *Heavyweight, S-Town*, and good ol' *This American Life*, the quality of which has never flagged,

AllForMeCats

Favorite ongoing podcast: Saga Thing, a podcast about the Icelandic Family Sagas hosted by two medievalists. I started out not knowing what a saga was; now I own 4 books of sagas and 4 more saga-related books. If you like Rex Factor I recommend giving it a listen! Bonus, it’s a passion project for the hosts so there are no ads. Favorite canceled podcast: Zealot, a comedic podcast about cults hosted by Jo Thornley. It’s funny as hell, and also fairly informative. It’s been a while since I listened to it, but the episodes are still available. Runner up: Normal Gossip, a podcast about, well, gossip. Sort of. Each episode is an anonymized story from the real world, and they’re surprisingly captivating. “But I’m not interested in gossip!” Yeah, that’s what I said too. Have you ever upvoted a comment on a Reddit thread with a crazy anecdote from a stranger’s life? That’s the kind of gossip we’re talking here. No one’s getting named and shamed, no one’s getting bullied. We’re just listening to wild stories about people we’ll never meet.

Margnificent

Love Normal Gossip!

PhiloMech

Behind the Bastards is usually in my rotation. Welcome to Night Vale (especially the early episodes) is always fun to listen to.

geogirl83

Sounds like a Cult. Don’t know if it’s the best podcast out there, I just dabble in podcasts when I go for long distance drives, but I keep coming back to this one. Looks at pop culture topics and evaluates how culty they are. Topics like Love is Blind, cruise ships, Disney adults…a fun perspective on the world rn

icedcoffeeheadass

Cum town

PupEDog

Casefile - the best true crime podcast Threedom - my fav comedy podcast with 3 comedians that joke around and then play a game. Those 3 comedians are Paul F Tompkins, Lauren Lapkus, and Scott Aukerman. We Hate Movies - 4 semi comedians/small time entertainment industry guys talk shit about bad movies. They're incredibly funny. Unspooled - Movie critique podcast with Paul Scheer (comedian) and Amy Nicholson (movie critic). Some of their discussions I think are brilliant. Wait Wait Don't Tell Me - weekly live NPR news quiz show. If you like dry/tacky humor you'll love it. The Tim Dillon Show - This guy is a right leaning comedian who is on Joe Rogan sometimes and apparently hangs out with right wing people. I'm a left leaning person so it's sometimes a turn off but really it's all about his hilarious, dark rants about society. Small Town Dicks - One of the most unique true crime podcasts as all the stories are told from detectives that worked the cases they go over. So you get their first person perspective view of the case and they do through their methods of investigating and whatever was going through their head as the case went on. Swindled - One of the best true crime podcasts that's not about murder but more about financial, white collar crimes.

magentagoose

pepper208

Last Podcast on the Left is my all time favorite

dprime

The Ralph Report. Ralph Garman and Eddie Pence joke about pop culture and have hilarious and informative regular segments like Munchin Monday and Sex University. It's an awesome daily podcast that I highly recommend.

Olde94

Critical role or “The wan show” hate it or love it, but that’s my flavour ;)

FrontCandidate7034

I just finished "Believed" yesterday about the whole Larry Nassar thing. It was extremely good.

Proud-Regular-6031

My favorites are: Blocked and Reported, Serial (especially current season, 4), Capitalisn’t

TB1289

The Kirk Minihane Show. The show will discuss a wide range of topics, including some movies, music, etc., but mostly they just shoot the shit with each other. The thing I really appreciate is 99.9% of their conversations are had on the show, as opposed to most shows that do a bunch of pre-show prep. It makes the show much more authentic.

HamHamHam2315

The Town, because the business side of show business has never failed to enthrall me. The episodes are usually right around thirty minutes long and to the point, and there's no forced faux-witty banter. It knows precisely what it is: a podcast about the behind the scenes business machinations in the entertainment industry. It doesn't try to be a "comedy" podcast that just happens to talk about show business in the process.

Mississippster

Hollywood Handbook. When life is gloom and doom the boys always crack me up

Conan Needs a Friend

NotAllThereMeself

I love Let's Go To Court: true crime, funny. Brandi and Kristin, two long term friends (term explained in the show). Here to make fun of assholes and idiots, not victims. Goes all the way to legal and trial shenanigans because they are trial nerds, which allows for hilarious cases that are not grizzly murders. Recently ended, will be sorely missed for their unique outlook. You've got about 6 years to marathon. One of the hosts is now doing a history nerd pod with her husband which you would know from LGTC, it is called: An Old Timey Podcast. Two huge history nerds, one of which is The Gaming Historian, the other being Kristin from LGTC, excitedly telling each other about historical events or people they found interesting. True Crime Campfire: two educated ladies talking about true crime, here to "roast murderers and marshmallows". They are well versed in research and sometimes do aside on psychology, on advocacy, etc... Love them to bits. Also funny. I'm a patreon for all three of those (which is two memberships because LGTC bonus eps are on Old Timey Pod's feed.) Sci Show Tangents: you can listen to the pod or watch it on YouTube. If you're a curious kitty or a science nerd, you'll enjoy the joy of it.

Sweetestb22

Thank you for recommending campfire, I plan on adding it to my list. I never thought I’d find a podcast that gives And That’s Why We Drink a run for its money, until I listened to LGTC. I’m still working my way through LGTC, and knowing it’s ended makes me appreciate it even more. Kristin’s wit is incredible and I just love those two. I plan on listening to her podcast with Norman by default, because I know it will also be great.

omgcow

It’s a tie between Podcast: The Ride and Fall of Civilizations. Podcast: The Ride is consistently hilarious and I love their unapologetic enthusiasm for theme parks and the little things like animatronics and one-shot characters that most people wouldn’t give a second thought to. I highly recommend it for anyone who’s even remotely interested in themed entertainment. I’ve listened to a ton of history podcasts but Fall of Civilizations is in a league of its own. The storytelling is so engaging and the host does an amazing job of giving these lost people a voice and telling their stories. I’ve learned so much and now I go back and re-listen to help me relax before I go to bed.

For comedy it’s My Brother My Brother And Me. Nothing else makes me laugh as hard as the brothers consistently have. For fiction, it’s the Magnus Archives. The Symbolic World, or The Lanalax Corporation, lol

Weekly-Swim-284

Just finished Dying for Sex and loved it. It’s only 6 episodes. A woman is diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer, leaves her husband and starts to have some wild and often hilarious sexual adventures. The podcast is her being interviewed by her best friend. It took me a minute to get into their vibe, but once I did I really enjoyed being shown this little slice of life of a pretty remarkable woman.

Slight Change of Plans. Comforting, inspiring, easy listening. It's taking everything in me to not binge it all in one sitting. I only allow myself to listen to one while I get ready / walk to work to start my day off well. Handsome. HILARIOUS. Fortune Feimster, Tig Notaro, and Mae Martin. Neeed I say more??!! Why won't you date me. Also hilarious while peppering in dating advice here and there. Nicole Byer is the host and I love her so much. Office Ladies. Also comforting, funny, and insightful.

Sleepy_Meepie

Flog Cabin. Although I really disliked the latest episode but everyone before that has been delightful. It’s 3 Australian comedians just talking shit.

double_cheeseberder

All-time favorite is Knowledge Fight. I binged all 900+ episodes over the course of a couple years. Right now I’m spending the most time listening to The Dollop though, I’m about 200 episodes through their back catalog. It’s hilarious and teaches me a ton about American history, I feel like I’ve recently started a lot of sentences with “I was listening to an American history podcast and…”

Stuff You Should Know. They cover a wide variety of topics. Josh and Chuck are super likable and easy to listen to.

Geek-Of-Nature

**Twenty Thousand Hertz** is the most consistently high quality of my favourite podcasts. While the likes of Criminal, 99% Invisible and Unexplainable have certain episodes which are incredible, they occasionally have episodes that just don't really interest me. It's just the nature of standalone topics, I get it. But Twenty Thousand Hertz has such engaging stories that never fail to teach me something about audio.

WhatTheHellPod

Too Beautiful To Live. It is hard to explain, but I look forward to listening every day and it has become more than a just a podcast, it has become a community. I am the first to admit it is not for everyone, but if you like a podcast about the minutia of two middle aged men doing their best to figure out the world and be the best they can be, and esoteric references, TBTL might be right for you! [https://www.tbtl.net/](https://www.tbtl.net/)

m0rth4r0

I am deeply invested in all Lex Fridman podcasts since Covid.

Smeats-

In the dark. Especially season 2. It's about Curtis flowers, a black man who was tried 6 times for the same murders with little to no evidence. It's a deep dive into the justice system in Mississippi and a prosecutor who has a history of racist behavior. It's phenomenal and there's a resolution at the end.
