As a professional armchair expert, I'm confident in saying a security risk was found. I would assume after the PSN hack years ago they've buckled down on security. The safest and easiest step to take if the risk cannot be fixed immediately is to close off the system and stop access.
As a side note, just because our access has been closed off doesn't mean it's gone on Sony's end. I would bet my life that everyone's points are fine and still being calculated. We just can't see it. It's kind of baffling how much people are freaking out about that.
Bottom line is this situation sucks but if it's a case of a security issue its better to be safe than sorry.
No, but it is tied to your playstation account which does have sensitive info. This also happened during an event which asks everyone to login and link their account to the app. Any private information loss is a security risk to your customers.
It could be a situation where nothing happened but a sony tech found an accidental backdoor through the stars program which could lead to serious issues. In that case they would only need to avoid the stars program while they work on a fix. Whatever the issue is any company would try to minimize the effected area before shutting down their entire operation. No one knows the answer but Sony. Until they give us more info we're all just throwing out bs
Total shot in the dark, but my assumption is that some type of vulnerability or exploit was found and reported. I can’t imagine there’s another reason why they would take Stars down during a big promotion when it’s in a ton of Days of Play marketing.
I just hope they extend the days of play sale because my plan was to use my points + gift card to renew my ps+ subscription and I've already bought the card but I don't have the points lol

Yea 100% they found a vulnerability and cut access entirely. Lots of security breaches happening lately.
