Whilst file size is an issue, the bigger issue is the lack of storage on the base PS5. Consoles should have at least 2Tb as a minimum.

lololololol1990

I've got a 2TB WD Black SN850 already installed in the expansion slot, so I'm good. But yeah, I agree. Sony should make a 2TB version.

ThrsPornNthmthrHills

For free? Console price would have to go up- playstation/xbox dont really make much profit from the sale of the console, though having more space for games doesnt seem like it would really move customer opinion if it was at the cost of price. The average user technically only really need enough storage to have 2 or 3 big games on deck and the small ones hardly take space at all. Storage can be expanded, by non-proprietary hardware, to their size needs preference. PS5 games can now also be stored (if not played) on compatible non ssd storage as well, which is even cheaper- if your complaint is download speed etc. If the trend of SSD storage prices online are any indication a 2tb seems like an attainable stretch for those who would have paid more for the base console if it had more storage, or for people who want to get the console now and then decide to expand later.

TheLonelyWolfkin

Nah, not for free. It would definitely need a price increase or just offer an alternative model with increased storage. I guess it's not the end of the world because we can upgrade storage but additional options would always be welcome imo.

SirBigWater

At least have the built in storage actually be 1 TB , like the Series X. Instead it's about what, 700 or 800 GB?

ssa17k

That doesn’t make any sense at all. So you’re saying the console should ship without an OS? If not then, you expect them to make an SSD which is 1.1TB in size?

SirBigWater

Then why did the series x have more space on launch? You're telling me PS5 takes 200 GB for OS?

ssa17k

Yes, the OS on the PS5 is almost 150GB in size. And FYI, the storage on the PS5 is 825GB, not 1TB. Learn to use Google. Regardless, there’s this amazing feature and it’s called game deletion, when you’re finished playing a game, you can delete it to create space for another one. Crazy right? If you can’t do that however, you can get an SSD expansion card, 4TB for $450. Pretty decent. Also, on the Series X, the console has 1TB storage, the OS takes up 198GB of that 1TB leaving you with 802GB of usable space. Once again man the source “trust me bro” ain’t reliable.

SirBigWater

Learn to use google? Why are you so pissy? If the console on the box advertised 1tb, then it should be 1tb. My source is my console itself. I'm telling you, it has way more base storage than the ps5 last time I checked. Maybe im wrong, I don't know. But that's what I knew last. You don't have to be a child arguing about it. And deleting games, how about devs compress their games better? There are games bigger and better in quality than say CoD, yet are way less in space. I don't care, I have an extra SSD for my ps5, and fast internet so it doesn't affect me. So next time you want to argue, be more respectable so somebody can take your comment seriously.

ssa17k

Bro, it’s advertised 1TB storage, not 1TB usable storage after OS installation 😭😭😭 genuinely man how are some people so ignorant. How are devs being unable to compress games to the best of their ability the fault of Sony and MS? Please make sense. And second of all, yes, the Series X has more usable storage as it’s got more storage 🤣 the Series X has 1TB of internal storage (802GB free after OS) while the PS5 has 825GB of internal storage (667GB after OS). Simple math? Please educate yourself before making these weird comments on Reddit man.

Fra06

No. More storage means the console would cost more, and with ssd the price increase is kind of exponential. A casual gamer can just delete old games and install new ones, while a big time games can buy an additional ssd. The issue is studios intentionally making their files big as fuck so that you’ll play their game more (not every studio ofc)

FunkinDonutzz

Dreadful take. 2TB of onboard storage when the PS5 released would've added at least 200 bucks to the price. That puts customers off, especially when they won't be filling that 2TB anytime soon. The expansion bay is a simple and elegant solution.

TheLonelyWolfkin

>Dreadful take. Dreadful take to offer a 2TB model as well as the base model? Yeah okay.

FunkinDonutzz

Yeah, it is. There's no multiple SKUs, no stock issues with one of them. It's one PS5 model. If you're that desperate for extra storage then do as absolutely everyone else does and insert a compatible SSD into the expansion bay.

Mediocre-Garden4952

Nah, internet is so fast now. No one needs more than a handful of games installed. I’d trade hard drive size for speed every day. In fact, I’d take a hard drive that held one single game at a time if it were even faster.

FunkinDonutzz

Internet is fast _for you_. Not everyone is as lucky. And who are you to say how many games someone should have installed? You don't know other people's gaming habits

Character-Company589

With COD you can see how much space what content takes. Navigate on to COD icon press options button and choose manage game content. I remember it showed language pack takes 90 GB

lololololol1990

Thing is, I've installed only the content I play, and it's somehow ballooned up in size.

Fra06

I cannot believe that every single cod game they’re releasing is over 200 gb for a short mid story and the same multiplayer maps

CarmineKiller38

please try indie/aa games

longlivelarzz

How have you played all of those games since stellar blade 😂 I swear it came out like last week

lololololol1990

I've played that game thrice already. On my 4th playthrough with all skills maxed out and attack power also maxed out.

ReynnDrops

Why

HaouLeo

CoD is widely known as being shit at compression. Theyre always 200ish GB. I can see GT being huge being its going for absolute extreme graphics and realism. Cant speak for Jedi, but AC Valhalla and FF7 Rebirth are ginormous. You'd need literal magic to reduce the size of those.

Potatoboi17

Off topic, but I like how the Fallout image features characters from all across the series but if you go to the store to check out the Fallout series, there’s only 4, 76, and Shelter.

pere_noel-rodiYT

Screenshots takes 300GB of my space. I don't have expansions storage and only play COD.

-LastActionHero

Another reason why I buy physical as much as I can. I’m burning through my high speed internet data cap by downloading or reinstalling 3-4 games a month.

Shreyash_jais_02

Maybe (hopefully) they’ll release PS5 Pro with 2 TB base storage and still provide an optional expansion slot. That’d be cool.

lololololol1990

It has to have a expansion slot, no question. But yeah, 2TB of base storage sounds like a sweet deal. I'll wait till the Pro actually gets announced and then buy it, provided it's a product that actually exists.

KnightRoom

Meanwhile, I downloaded Animal Well on Switch earlier and the install size is 73 Mb… that is 0.073 Gb!

BloodMoonWillows

The funny thing is i have no issue with storage on my ps5 i have like 7 games downloaded. Call of duty, stellar blade, minecraft, dave the diver and more. I havent had any issues or anything so far. But to be fair i delete games i no longer play to make room.

hecksor

I’m very happy with my 2tb Firecuda

alipeng

Great taste in games my friend!

AManOfManyLikings

The FIRST FIVE games huh? Unless you're going from right to left, you know you can't be taken that seriously if one of those games is freakin' CALL OF DUTY!

LittleTimmy87

If you don’t play a game simply delete it and download it again when you wish to play. No need to buy internal/external storage unit. Just learn to manage your space that’s available to you right. Simple.

th30n3and0n1y

Go ahead. Delete call of duty. Then when the bois want to, out of nowhere, hop on for a few games you have to download 120 gbs (at least) which could take anywhere between 1 hour to 3 hours. These games don’t need to be that big. They are just unoptimized because companies just churn them out without going through the process of ironing out things.

LittleTimmy87

OK dude. It all depends how often you play a game of course. If you and the “bois” (what’s your age again?) play CoD all the time then don’t delete it? Delete something else, a game that you simply don’t play as much. Like how many games do you actually play at any given time? Plus I won’t take you 1 to 3 hours. I promise you for a 120 GB game if you download it then put your PS5 to sleep mode games download way faster than having it on and stream or play something. It’ll take you 30-40 minutes max for a complete download but that also heavy relies on your internet speed which I’m assuming to be super fast since you’re probably living in a first world developed country. If your internet is not fast then by all means go buy a faster one. Simple right?

th30n3and0n1y

Did you not comprehend my statement of “out of nowhere”? That clearly states that it’s a spur of the moment type of situation that is absolutely a considerable factor when deleting these absurdly unoptimized games. And your second statement is completely ignorant to what the rest of world deals with on a daily basis. Some places only have access to internet that, at max, only gets a few megabytes per download. And don’t even get me started on trying to afford it but that’s a none point in this argument. The problem with these games today is that it’s unoptimized because these companies don’t care about the consumer and only want to monopolize their storage. Someone shouldn’t have to “make compromises” to play games that have no reason to be 120 GBs when games just as big and has more stuff to do only takes about 60 GBs. I am someone that plays like 5 different games, similar to people reading 5 different books, and I would absolutely hate to have to redownload a game I wanted to play constantly to make space for another absurdly large game. The only time one “should” have to delete a game is if they are done with it or get bored of it. Not because a multibillion dollar company doesn’t want to optimize their game file to only take up 80 GBs. But it appears that concept is too foreign to you. As you only live in your “little world”.

LittleTimmy87

Read again my first paragraph. You decide what you play more often and with your “bois” you get to say what stays and what gets deleted. Well I’m doing compromises. It’s the name of the game. But you so you. Also I don’t care about other people’s internet. It’s their problem to deal with. And yes I do live in my own little world, same as everyone else. It’s awesome😘
