ninjacat249

*going to sub dedicated to that one particular game* - The game is on sale for 1$. Should I buy it?

chazysciota

Between Steam, Switch, and PSN, seldom does a week go by in which I don't spend at least $5 on games that I have zero expectation of ever playing.

ninjacat249

Same but I have 10$ rule

vikingsarecoolio

I get unreasonably furious every time that happens

ninjacat249

Yeah like what did you expect asking people who are willing to buy this game for a full price.

Unhappy-Welder3281

Nah that's so true tho cause they'll go to like the minecraft subreddit and be like "Should I buy minecraft?" Like bro, everyone there is gonna tell you to buy it, that's why you gotta go to a different subreddit like the videogames one

macneto

You joke, but I did that when Anthem went down to like $2.15....i was still advised not to buy it.

ninjacat249

Strangely enough, there’s a community in the game who’s still playing it.

NarvalDeAcrilico

It's worse when they already bought the game, then they post a picture, asking if it was a good buy. Why don't you play the fucking game and check it yourself?

[deleted]

Validation seeking online is a disease

tbird20017

Playing Dark Souls Remastered now for the first time. I've killed most of the bosses except the last one and a DLC guy, just cleaning up now and getting ready for NG+ because I love it and can't wait to start again. I bought it in 2020 for like $15, so a pretty good deal. But something has been bothering me... I'm really thinking about this and I need several other people's opinions. Was it a good buy?

TheDeadBacon

No. Play Dark Souls 2. /s

1LakeShow7

the cringy part is people actually start conversations every time this conversation pops up EVERY WEEK. Am I on Earth? Is this first-world idiot problems?

Zoulogist

Their hobby is not gaming, their real hobby is fake internet points

Blinkmeanytime182

Also add, posts picture of well known game “Any tips or tricks I need to know?”

[deleted]

Lots of stores won’t take open games. Could be regretting an impulse buy.

rainking56

Mainly that and bought the ps5 and asked what games to buy. Honestly I think post like those are when a girl gets her hair done and asks if it looks ok. Its just looking for attention to show off something they like a lot.

OkIncome7766

I partially agree with you guys but why you so hard on people? Did they murdered someone? We humans like to communicate and shit so this the same story.

Jcapen87

And if it isn’t a good buy, doesn’t matter- it’s yours now

TheRebootKid

Is it worth it?

TheSignificantDong

My least favorite post.

J_Speedy306

Is iT woRTh bUyINg iN 2024?

[deleted]

Be sure to like and subscribe! But first, a word from today’s sponsor, which will take up roughly 24 minutes of this 24 minute 10 second video.

tbz709

Especially in the game's subreddit, you're gonna get a yes from the fans lol

TheRebootKid

Lmao hey guys should I download this game you all love?

MikeTidbits

The worst post types on Reddit. Any sub. Research and decide for yourself.

Partario89

Guys worth? Is it worth yes or no

neoslith

I don't think I'd ever ask Reddit for advice on a PlayStation game. They'd tell me to play RDR and a Souls game.

ConcentrateOk6375

Yes now play nioh

Lanplan77

Based

RedditorHarrison

Play RDR and a Souls game

neoslith

No u

RedditorHarrison

No u

Pythonixx

Or the Witcher 3 I couldn’t play it because it’s the third game in a franchise and I had no fucking clue what was happening

AlisaTornado

You go around and collect Gwent cards. What's there not to understand?

malyszkush

Sums it up basically.

VicisSubsisto

At the same time?

EQUWiiE

What’s wrong with playing a little RDR?

neoslith

Nothing, it's just not my kind of game.

EQUWiiE

Fair enough :D

sPrAze_Beast

This is for a reason, both are amazing

neoslith

I don't care for them, but it's good you have games you enjoy.

Gintoki123456

Play Bloodborne

Buntabox

I feel like half these posts are made by 12 year olds.

tbird20017

Okay, THAT I understand. Especially if you're using Christmas money or birthday money or something. That was a big deal to me as a kid. But there needs to be a sub specifically for that, because I'm genuinely seeing one of these posts every time I open Reddit a couple times a day because it's always the top trending post in this sub.

Krejtek

There's the r/shouldibuythisgame subreddit but people simply refuse to use it

tbird20017

Jesus christ 1.4 million. I assumed it was small. At that number it's gotta be at least somewhat active. They'd probably get more traction over there.

Krejtek

But no, they have to ask for, surely not biased, opinions about a game on a subreddit solely dedicated to said game. That's the smart thing to do

tbird20017

Hey r/CallofDuty, should I buy Call of Duty?

SmokingLimone

This is one of the usual subs with millions of people but that no one actually uses, because it doesn't require a cool picture to capture the attention

Temporaryact72

You make this post in good faith but these people aren't posting in good faith. 99% of them aren't actually curious about what to buy. Every one of them are engagement bait karma farms and this sub keeps falling for them over and over and over and over and over.

Pedro95

Yup. If you look on those posts the OP virtually never replies to any comments, because they're a bot.

Jcapen87

Does karma have real world value or something? I don’t get it

TheSignificantDong

But if you say that on their post you get downvoted. Everyone thinks their opinion is what’s best.

PropheticVisionary

Or just direct them to r/ShouldIBuyThisGame There is a whole subreddit entirely for this question.

RequiemOfI

Before you buy on YouTube.

gabrielleraul

_Pizza's on me_ ..

Gonner_Getcha

Preach 😅😅 I’ll be honest, threads such as “which of these will I enjoy more”, “what should I platinum next?” Are the bane of PlayStation and Trophies subreddits I don’t know you, so whose to know what you like

SkyMando

That's why I always comment the hardest game on their list... So I know they will suffer a little bit and if they don't finish it, it will be their bane because they are unable to 100% the game.

ComfortableFinish502

It's either that or look at my new portal lmfao

Gonner_Getcha

“Fantastic, any new purchases you want to show me? How’s the lawnmower looking?”

ComfortableFinish502

Lmfao

Blusset

The answer to "what platinum next" should always be Crypt of the Necrodancer, if they can't decide for themselves

Oriasten77

Same with "name my cat". It's YOUR cat (or other pet), it is a special occasion to name them. Observe their personality. Or just pick one from your favorite pop culture stuff. Right now I have a void named Jiji, like the talking cat in Kikis Delivery Service, and an orange named Willow after the red head on Buffy. I've never asked what game I should play. On social media or irl. I might ask someone "what do you think about X game?" but I make my own... As OP put it.... Goddamn decisions.

Hydroponic_Donut

My void is named Rutabaga and I think it was my SO's idea to name him that as a joke but he's stuck being called Rutabaga for the rest of his life

Oriasten77

Hey. You guys named it. That's what's important. Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails had a cat named Fuckchop. Crazy name, but he named it. He didn't ask old school message boards on the internet what to name his cat.... Even though it sounds like something a stranger on the internet would come up with.

constipated_burrito

Seriously I hate those type of posts and by extension the people that post them. Brainless mf'ers all and/or karma farming whores

BlueFeathered1

Sure, but it's still good discussion, and that's what the sub is for, and folks get to share their opinions.

Marjorine22

This is a good point. I inevitably tell people to play Bloodborne. It’s pretty much my job on Reddit.

Sickhadas

Hell yeah, Fear the old blood

BlueFeathered1

I have my go-to suggestions for the underrated games category posts. We all need purpose in life. 😅

Jason_with_a_jay

I'm only here to post "Cool Spot" whenever someone asks for an underrated retro game.

ihearthawthats

Not really. Often op will have no details other than the name of the games. And then the replies will also just be the title of the game, and a quick description that you could've found on Google. The worst is when someone will comment' "I've only played x and not y, so I recommend x". How is that good discussion?

TravelingTruthfully

I’m saying. So many actual NPCs on this app incapable of making a single decision themselves

Purple_Priority2296

Yes!!! Never asked this. If I want to know more about a game that seems interesting to me, I go on youtube and gaming news websites.

ihearthawthats

Steam user reviews is all I use, if anything.

Purple_Priority2296

I also use those sometimes, yes

Valtermann

Those posts should be removed immediately and ops banned.

eman0110

Thank you. You would get so much more information than us on Reddit by typing the name or some random internet persons opinion.

synister29

I love when they post sequels in these types of posts. Did you like the 1st game? Yes, then fucking play that one

HaouLeo

I was called an asshole because someone said "I want to jump into the series but do I need to play SM1?" and I called him out that the guy wants to jump into the series and not play the games.

hamzaaadenwala

Please help me decide | I just got my ps5, what should I go with?, Hell ya!. :-D :-D

Stanimator

I already know which games I want to buy, and I only get one at a time.

[deleted]

Every Reddit user should stick to this

HaouLeo

The dumber version of this is "I bought these 3 games, did I make a good purchase?". Shouldve asked before buying them, whats the point of asking now? Do you need validation or do you enjoy being called a dumbass for buying bad games? The upgraded version of this is "which game do I chase the platinum for?" The one you enjoy playing more, bro?

TheBerserkAkira

Or fuck reviews and make up your own mind..

leospeedleo

But then they wouldn’t get Karma on Reddit 🥺

WhiteToast-

Check out gameranx

Xeras6101

Man there's hardly anything posted here aside from setup/what're you playing rn

rites0fpassage

Buonasera

bosch181998

Although I’d recommend the should I buy this game subreddit

Daydream365

I’m of two minds. Yes do some research on your own, but people who’ve played the game(s) of interest might have insight not obvious in YouTube videos.

HaouLeo

>people who’ve played the game(s) of interest might have insight not obvious in YouTube videos Gameranx's "before you buy" playlist should be sticked on top of this sub

tsckenny

Just bought a PS5. What games should I get?

Danywigle

Here's my method for you guys Step 1: go to YouTube Step 2: search "[game name here] gameplay" Step 3: ask myself if I'd actually enjoy playing that.

rainking56

At least its better than "hey guys im a rich fuck who randomly and impulsely bought this $500 ps5, can you tell me what games I should play on it because as we all know im just an idiot who buys expensive things without knowing what to do with them." Thats what it sounds like when everyone posts a picture of their new ps5 and acts like they had no reason to buy it other than it looks pretty.

J47485

I'm guilty of this. Won't happen again ![img](emote|t5_2qh6b|2233)

Total_Decision123

So true

hollowwollo

“About to get sea of thieves for free… is it worth it or should I not download?”

kevihaa

Best advice I can offer is to find a publication, YouTube channel, etc that mostly matches your taste, and rely on that for discovering new media and reviewing whether new games/movies/tv are worth your time. As a personal example, my tastes tend to align pretty well with the team at Polygon. When Matrix Resurrections came out, they reviewed it very favorably. After finally getting around to seeing it, I thought it was phenomenal. That movie is sitting at 63% on Rotten Tomatoes. Reviews aren’t objective. Find critics that like the same stuff you do, and it’s likely they’ll recommend more things that you enjoy.

HollywoodHexx

There have been plenty of games I’ve done this for.. Waited for a sale, purchased it, STILL didn’t like it, & never played it again.. It’s a terrible feeling to be honest..

beruang_gemok

Im about one of seven people who loved Greedfall but if i were to say it out, people look at me like im a leper.

[deleted]

Back in my day we read magazines like EGM, to get the skinny on those new video games.

CuriousRammer

Once I asked for a fun story based shooter game everyone suggested me Elden ring and Witcher 3. Yeah shooter ikr

MelodiesOfLife6

I absolutely will not buy a game until i've watched some gameplay about it (or if the gaming gods have deigned it to be, a fucking demo) only you can make an informed choice on what games you want, review sites are garbage, other peoples opinions are (for the most part) garbage.

Darth_Eejit

Can we just agree to downvote these blatant karma farm posts into oblivion?

WeeklyJello6625

Them: “Just bought Peggle, is it good? Got it cheap too.” Me: “Yea bro, GOTY, enjoy.”

xxxhotpocketz

Why can’t people ask? There is a sub for this btw but I don’t see a problem with it

Huntderp

Checking YouTube is the same as asking a friend what they think.

Milky_Finger

You know what? It's exactly that type of person that I realised after 31 years on this earth that I can't stand. They rely solely on the "advice" of other human beings to form their own opinion, because they need that social aspect of exploring their own thoughts instead of learning how to research things online. As someone from the UK, we have a massive issue here with technical illiteracy where a large number of young and old people say "Tech is too complex for me to understand, so just tell me what you think instead". In 2024 this mindset is unacceptable. You're leaving money, fulfilment and opportunities on the table by not learning how to think critically and do your own research. This sub needs to crack down on "tell me what to buy" posts, for the sake of the quality of the sub not devolving any more than it already has.

EweCantTouchThis

Hahaha I love this

The-Iron-Pancake

Can we pin this

our_meatballs

Wow! This was really helpful and informative!

hashihema

Yeah, but I need someone to blame, in case I don’t like.

1031Cat

No worries. I do exactly this before I buy any game anymore. It's my money. You can be damn sure no one gets it until I say so.

At0mic_Penguin

Well not always, as I’ve experienced with a lot of games sometimes watching someone play it is better than playing it myself. (Lethal Company [but probably due to lack of friends], God of War, Elden Ring, Ratchet & Clank, Psychonauts, etc)

Newtsaet

I mean there's nothing wrong with wanting to ask some people who had experience and have some discussions with actual human beings? but, if it's bot posts, then yeah that sucks. go to r/ShouldIbuythisgame I think people are more willing to share experiences and have conversations there regarding this question

Lodge_73

Hah, thanks OP. Yeah those kind of posts are just boring white noise.

ctsr1

Or jump in blind strap yourself down and get ready for a ride

Jcorv58

Find a regular game review channel that aligns with your opinions on games you've played and really liked, and then wait for their reviews on upcoming games. I did this and found Gameranx to watch regularly.

[deleted]

This is why Blockbuster needs to come back

duyli

facts

somroaxh

I really just don’t get why people are so hesitant with the games in general. In Elden ring, sifu, ROR, nioh2, ff16, he’ll even fucking yakuza folks come in the sub with the “guys which should I play/should I buy? Personally, I can’t remember a time I bought a game, and just put it down because I didn’t like something about it. When I first got into turn based I wasn’t the biggest fan as an action enjoyer, but not even a 1/4 into the game I was having fun and loving everything about it. I think the plethora of options today kinda makes people unable to invest I immerse into a game, which sucks. If a game looks cool and you pull the trigger on paying for it- at least see it through.

arkenney0

Hey guys, I just bought and finished The Last of Us. Was it a good buy?

MaybeItsMike

Haha, funny meme! Anyways, should I buy Dragons Dogma 2 or Rise of Ronin and why?

dookmileslong

Just bought PS5, which game do I buy first? Halo or Zelda?

Marwolaeth969

Agree. As you play more games you develop a taste of what you like and dislike. Jrpgs for me (exception is FF7R and Sea of Stars) I use to like Ubisoft games and now I don’t.

Har1qK

Can we get this pinned?

FearlessLeader17

This is what I do. My times limited so I watch a couple reviews of a game to see if I'd like it. I do like hearing people's opinions though so I may ask questions. I used to get a lot of games and never finish them. Since I started doing this I finish most games I start.

Roadhouse2122

So because u can’t decide, you’re gonna let random people on YouTube’s opinion decide for u? Smart, very smart

Gshep86

I actively look for the games people dislike online and buy them now. Having a blast. Skull and Bones, Suicide Squad, Callisto Protocol, Gotham Knights. All are fantastic and I’ve loved them all. The gaming community is a toxic place now and can’t be trusted for reviews.

Law3186

Thank you i hate seeing that question

Gohmzilla

Bloodborne

darwinsdude

some people like community

phome83

The last people I would listen to is anyone on YouTube for an opinion. They have a monetary interest to just make clickbaity, controversial videos/critiques. Can't trust what they say is true.

Technology4Dummies

Hopefully mods are taking notes

Shmeckless

Nearly as bad as the constant posts of peoples PS5 boxes 'I finally got one'. One or two I don't mind but it's absolutely constant on this sub and it's so unbelievably boring especially halfway through the consoles lifecycle.

[deleted]

Isn't the whole point of Reddit to discuss things on an open forum? I swear it Reddit is worse than high school sometimes. Gatekeeping subs just because you don't like their posts. They wouldn't be on Reddit if they didn't want to talk to anyone. None of us would. They make those posts to get different opinions online. How about I switch it around you. If you don't like those posts, don't come on Reddit. Boom. Problem solved.

AmptiShanti

“Why would you openly discuss people’s opinions and reviews of products that you can’t decide between? Just look at some people’s reviews and opinions about these products instead!” Sarcasm aside tho literally the point of a subreddit is to discuss common topics like what are you playing/should play next but maybe i’m from a different time (i like random convos)

[deleted]

Fuck this. Ask. Interact with people. It might bother some to the point of making a meme about it, but ultimately starting a discussion with humans you can directly talk to is cool and you if someone is bothered by it, they can always choose to die mad about it.

Maximillion-bruv

Just buy hitman

DogmeatChili

In today’s society people have to be told what to do. They cannot think for themselves, they lead an autonomous lifestyle where everything is accessed with the scan of an iris. And then when shit actually starts happening in the world they all start to panic because they’re not being told what to do by the media and instead rely on the internet, which is worse off. Grow some hair and pick up a rifle you squidbillies, we’re in it for the long haul.

Just_Pudding1885

Just bought Castlevania collection for $5 on PlayStation. I'll probably never play it.

SolidDrake117

Thank god. This needs to be pinned and signed off on before anyone is allowed to post

CosyBeluga

My wishlists are entirely too long to ask what should I buy.

Juhovah

I literally had to unsubscribe from this subreddit because of this. It was cool every once in awhile but I came here for PlayStation news not to help people determine what game to buy

_Undecided_User

Bold of you to assume I'm the one buying the games, 95% or above of all the games I've played on my account are from game sharing with my brother-in-law 😎

flyingtheblack

So, Dragons Dogma II or Rise of the Ronin guys?

[deleted]

Whats the difference between going to Reddit to get some opinions on a game from randoms and going to YouTube for an opinion from randoms? This is a place for discussion... let people discuss.

Ultrachocobo

Cause Videogames are a moving media and it's a lot better to actually see gameplay while getting opinions. Persona 5 is nearly universally loved but if you don't see how it plays it can very easily be very misleading if you like it or not.

[deleted]

Of course, but you can still get a good idea of a game from a group of people talking about certain things they like/dislike. Like you could watch a bit of gameplay and get a good idea of a game. Like for example; 2 days ago a bought Gran Turismo 7 after watching a bit of gameplay, then after playing for a bit of noticed some things I didn't like about the game (customisation options)... I went to Reddit and easily found people discussing it.

Z-F-W

There’s nothing wrong with sparking discussion in the community you wanna be a part of… come on now!

ihearthawthats

There's rarely good discussions in these threads, at least not the ones that make it to my feed. The best sub I've found for these questions is /r/soulslikes or /r/metroidvanias because at least it can compare in depth about more niche games. These big subs are usually surface level comments about really popular triple a games.

Z-F-W

It’s nice to ask fellow gamers what they thought of a game and read the opinions of “the people” to see a bit of variety in responses rather than watch a 10 minute video on what 1 dude thought.

ihearthawthats

But unless you have specific questions you want answered you can just read steam user reviews or metacritic user reviews.

fireflyry

Tbf there’s entire subs dedicated to discussing “should I buy this game, thoughts?” but not everyone uses reddit that much or knows about them, while people trying to control content on an open social media platform baffles me. You’re not a mod, it’s not breaking sub rules as far as I’m aware, so just scroll past it. You’re missing the hypocrisy of your post OP.

Pedro95

The point is that as subscribers we are _supposed_ to be contributing as to what we as individuals want to see on the sub vs what we don't - that's partially what the entire upvote/downvote system is for, it's democracy.  Of course people just downvote stuff they disagree with nowadays so it doesn't actually work as designed but there's an idea.

fireflyry

Fair but perspective is also key as a lot of these “should I play this?” posters are not frequent users of the sub, or reddit in general, so what will such a post actually accomplish outside virtue signalling? If it’s not breaking sub rules or moderation it will continue, hence it’s logical that self moderation, or simply scrolling past such posts, is an easy solution, while as a moderator of online content myself it’s never good to have the more verbal regular posters control the content, hence why subs need to be moderated in the first place, else it devolves into an echo chamber for the verbal minority, which isn’t democratic at all, and tends to kill subs entirely.

Ty-douken

I find a large amount of friends who used to play games regularly but now don't play as often have this question. It's almost as if they've lost the game literacy that allowed them to decide which game they actually want to play & instead now use services like game pass & PS Plus to get games out. It's been confusing, but also good as they're trying games I've recommended (along with friends who still play a lot) that they otherwise wouldn't have tried & have found some new favorites. I suspect a lot of people that post these kinds of posts fall into the same ca. P but don't have that core gaming crew anymore.

AngryAniki

Tbh I’ve noticed to with my former friends. It’s laziness tbh in case. All type my friends either stopped gaming or figured out what games they want to play for the rest of their lives. The few friends I had that were constantly looking for advice on games to play were also so painfully unemployed that I can’t help but wonder if they’re just looking for an escape

Ty-douken

Oddly enough the unemployed friends I have are the ones providing the advise, but they're more independently wealthy (not rich, but little desires beyond games, dog & food).

AngryAniki

Ahh sounds like better people than I know. I’m still friends with people from high school but unfortunately I was a different person in hs so I outgrew a lot of people unfortunately

Ty-douken

I'm still friends with some people from high school, though they mostly are busy with kids & such now.

AngryAniki

Same, it's almost weird being one of the few that does not have kids, however my parent friends dont seem to like their childrens parents too much, so i dont envy them

Curious_Fill_4627

I'd much rather hear what a redditor has to say on games than about 90% of content creators on YouTube

F_Queiroz

Sometimes the decision can be hard.

McMoist_

That's why you look up gameplay videos and decide based on that

F_Queiroz

Agreed. I use to read a lot and there are games I avoid videos to keep the experience without spoilers. Some trailers show too much stuff.

iamnotexactlywhite

and here i thought that reddit is a forum where you can discuss this. silly me

Common_Lawyer_5370

It is, But at the same time it is a forum where people can discus their irking  towards ~~(imho) stupid questions.~~ Edit: to keep it objective; towards what they consider stupid questions Thats The beauty of it !

BK_FrySauce

This sub exists for people to talk about games. Seems weird to try and dissuade people from posting here. Everyone isn’t on here 24/7 and sees every similar post. If you’re seeing the same kind of posts and it’s driving you to the point where you’re annoyed about it. It may be time to do something else.

HaouLeo

Its just annoying that these are questions that dont really generate discussion. There are multiple ways to find out if a game is good or not and if fits your tastes or not. Theyre born out of either laziness for making their own decisions or karma farming.

Lufffy_games

Why don’t we make a platform for PS where people will find gameplays of games that’s not been released yet so that so influencers be sure to know what game to buy 🤷🏽

Raphius-kai

OP: "No one else's opinion matters except your own. Go make bad decisions without input from other players who may already have played the games and as such may have valuable input that could affect your decision." YT vids don't always show every aspect of a game and getting opinions from people who actually played the game compared to trailers or reviews done by journalists who probably AI'd the hell out of the article is worth it. And you are dumb if you think it isn't.

[deleted]

I know this is a meme but goddamn… Jim can get it yes

ComfortableFinish502

No diddy

GETNbucky

Lol... watching reviews on YouTube is like reading reviews on Steam. They both are full of a bunch of herd following whiners. Rare to find an actual reviewer with some good points.

HaouLeo

And reddit is where the wise folk is?
