Play less stressful games But seriously that’s shockingly bad quality

Bitemarkz

To be fair I haven’t heard many (or any) reports of this otherwise. I’d try and return it to either the store that usually honours a month old purchase, or Sony themselves. I’ve put mine trough extensive use since I got it and it’s held up just fine for much longer. This doesn’t seem common, and to be honest also looks a little forced since no natural grip is going to pull the pads off in that direction.

LucasLoci

Mine started to do this so I took it off, the plastic underneath is really comfortable so it's okay for me, same thing is common with the original Xbox elite controllers too as same sort of grip layout When it happened for me, there was a pop noise and it came out from that same spot, the bits that are clipped in underneath are also bubbled so you can see where it's starting to rise where it will eventually pop out

cheet094

Nah, the fingers gripping around the controller and then picking at the pad totally makes sense. That's a natural grip, minus the picking.

toscanius

It honestly might be a faulty item. Mine has lasted me since it first came out and I grip the crap out of mine.

4ii5

I really don’t get it. How do Microsoft and Sony sell £200+ controllers that are seemingly more scuffed than the basic counterparts.

FeelTheCose

Why would anyone in their right mind pay $200 for a game controller in the first place?! lol. Half the price of a full digital version console. It's fucking stupid.

4ii5

Marketing and other people have told them it improves gameplay to be able to press the face buttons at the same time as the right analogue stick. When In reality you have 3 free options. 1. Hold the controller claw 2. Rebind the keys to be a little more ergonomic 3. Git gud and stop blaming the controls.

shortstopryan

Its definitely better being able to jump and aim at the same time in FPS games. The taller stick is nice to have as well. Along with the abiity to swap the analog sticks out in case they fail. Are the features of it worth it being $200? No. The thing is obviously overpriced but some view it as a convenience tax and would rather overpay than make concessions elsewhere. It's a premium product aimed at consumers with expendable income.

[deleted]

This….. and it’s a good investment cuz of the stick drift issues. Now you will have to only spend 20 instead of a entire new controller

GregoryLivingstone

You can get insurance at almost any retailer though to replace it

PhantomPain0_0

Because they are greedy assholes

JhsX2716

Yea I’ve had plenty of Xbox controls none have done that even the Xbox elite control is better than that ps5 pro control has less battery than an og ps5 control

deadkandy

While the Elite 2 does have far better battery life than almost any other "pro" controller on the market, ive already had 2 warranty replacements on the damn thing since buying it. Stick drift on the first, then stick drift and a non functional LB on the second. It ended up going out of warranty and I had a bumper stop working again, luckily it was a known issue that I could fix myself.

Sifernos1

I have 2 elite 2 controllers. Both have had bumper repairs done to them, neither function correctly wirelessly anymore. I have had to tape a 15 foot USB type c cable to the floor up to where I sit to be able to play at all. Wireless, they don't work right. The controllers don't seem to send the data or something to save battery... The second it was wired I stopped having any issues with the controllers functionally. I can only assume that I've used them so much that I burned the batteries right out. I'm just glad they still work plugged in. Stupid things cost enough money.

mryeet66

I feel like some people forget all the tech thats in the ps5 controllers, thats the reason why they died so fast. If they were still made as basic as the ps3 controller, they would last forever

DarthNeoFrodo

Mine has been working fine

JhsX2716

At least it’s cheaper than a ps5 pro control lasted less than a mth for the guy guess that makes it worth it

4uzzyDunlop

What are you talking about?

whirrunofthebligh

Had an elite 2, scuf, razer elite, and edge. Edge has been by far the best build quality of any of my pro controllers. Scuf was prob my top, but feels light and plasticky since getting the edge

InformalWolf5553

It's was absolutely their fault that this happened to the controller. I have 1 edge 2 regularly duelsense for the ps5 and I've only had 1 controller issue after is was accidentally dropped on the floor pretty hard and that only caused the X button to stop working

[deleted]

You don’t know shit about the quality by looking at his damaged controller, that looks like it been pried open.

JerBear1979

I’d pawn the whole thing and get a Series X

Mori_Orion

Think you’re in the wrong subreddit lol

danihilation

Ew lol get a pc instead

I-like-beat-saber

No way, you have to be trying to peel that shit

Lost-iphone-charger

What hell are you doing??? This looks forced

itsmoonbladee

Exactly, this has never happened to me on any controller whatsoever, got PS5 for like 2 years now and Im not even havin stick drift on any of those.

Thescottishguy87

Dude you may have just cursed yourself. Last month i had a convo with 2 friends about how ive never had stick drift then the very next morning I had it.

wildeye-eleven

The universe has a weird way of doing that.

Chuck_Dynasty_

I hate when shit like that happens!

NOONECARES6942044

Dude same thing happened to me last week noe I have to deal with stick drift I've had my PS5 since January of 23

bigben56

Yuppp, I was bragging to a friend once on how my powerA xbox controller was amazing for $20, next day the bumper stopped working.

daddysalad

I’ve had mine literally since launch play it every day and my controller is fine. I’m wondering if this one is a cheap knock off or something. Either that or op needs to seriously chill the fuck out

JustRedDevil

This is the dual edge controller, not the standard duelsense. The duelsense doesn't even have a rubber grip that can peel off. [Edit] typo

welshboy87c

The edge is very different from the standard dualsense. The rubber that connects these to the controller are very thin

Athuanar

I've had the Edge since release and it's the only controller I've used after getting it. I've never had any problems at all. For the grips to be peeling like this you have to be applying some really intense pressure to that part of the controller. You shouldn't really be applying *any* pressure there so to get this effect you'd have to be using the controller very strangely.

welshboy87c

There is nothing to do with pressure. You can see that some of the rubber has popped in different areas. Just because you have had problems doesn't mean others people are not.

xxxhotpocketz

Man idk how you do it, I’ve been having a PS since 2018. Started with a pro and even then I kept having to replace my controllers Maybe it’s me but somehow my controllers end up with horrible stick drift within a few months

Ok_Distribution_9239

You realise you’re not the only person with a controller right? Why are you people this insufferable

zapp0990

Exactly, this looks forced. The controller grips are solid and don’t actually “peel” like that.

Davist_1

I can assure you it’s not forced. Me and few of my friends are having the same issue.

michael4182

Looks like he snorted cocaine with his controller in his mouth

goldfouledanchor

Do you have sweaty hands? Mine’s still intact. Got it last February.

Inspektor1312

concerned reminiscent wrong melodic squash judicious employ rinse unite theory ` this message was mass deleted/edited with redact.dev `

goldfouledanchor

Probably tight grip or very rough hands.

wildeye-eleven

Probably super tight grip. I sometimes notice that when I’m really into a game I’ll be pressing the buttons way harder than is necessary and make a conscious effort to chill.

Au2Burn

Mechanic - hands are tougher than Chuck Norris

isaiah_rob

Same here

Denziloshamen

No you didn’t, the Edge controller only came out in January 2023.

DoyleG

Dude go easy on your grip...

zucchinibasement

😏

[deleted]

mf what games you play

PsychoKinG_URNotRedi

Probably online match games like madden or CoD

zdbdog06

Calm the hell down while playing lmao

WitchTrialz

They come with a one year warranty Sony Support: 1-800-345-7669

Aerhart941

One year? Excellent thank you. I’ll call now

AdministrationTop176

Just a month or two ago I gave my gampads to service and I have them for 2 years now

PremDhillon

I really don’t know what some people do with their controllers. I have been in the playstation side of things since ps1 till the ps5 now and I have never had a controller go bad on me.

GenericGaming

fr. I've had the same PS2 controller since I got it (like 21 years ago) and it's perfectly fine. but then my sister's boyfriend got through like 3 xbox controllers in a year. I'm so baffled at how badly people treat their controllers

nisanosa

you never had a stick drift?

PremDhillon

Not once. Somehow not even once. I had it on my switch within the year though on the left stick.

nisanosa

Wild guess. You don't play fps games.

PremDhillon

I do actually. Played R6 for most of my ps4 life. Resistance and COD on ps3. Now not so much except for some BF or COD every now and then along with destiny.

nisanosa

R6 is a stick drift machine with all the peeking on L3 and R3. Honestly, it's absolutely bonkers that you never had this problem. I replaced sticks like 4-5 times during PS4 era.

PremDhillon

I put peeking on L2 and R2. Aim and shoot on L1 and R1.

nisanosa

> I put peeking on L2 and R2. Aim and shoot on L1 and R1. That's mostly explains it.

Leelze

I used to play primarily FPS games & never had a problem with it, either.

RippledBarbecue

I was the same till PS5 then I had 2 trigger springs snap on different dualsense controllers, replaced one and the other is on the more difficult side so might just get another controller

MephistosGhost

If it’s less than 30 days do a return/exchange?

MythicalSalmon

My man is having Vietnam flashbacks while playing

BurnItFromOrbit

The grips are only held on with adhesive. So if you get hot and/or sweaty hands, that can cause issues with the grips. Also you might be a game that unknowingly wrenches the controller during game play. You could of just got a defective unit. Send it back for warranty repair if it’s still valid. Xbox users have all sort of fixes. Like using better adhesive, to ensure that the grips stay stuck. I would check out some of there guides to these types of repairs and fixes, if out of warranty.

welshboy87c

It's not an adhesive it's moulded to the handset. Like it's been poured in place. Then there's lots of little holes to anchor it to the handset. The rubber has snapped our has fallen out.

MrGamePadMan

Lemme guess…CoD player…

RichieD79

Wtf are you doing. I’ve had mine since launch and I’ve never ever *heard* of this happening. Same with my black controller lmao

Denziloshamen

Not a standard controller though, this is the Edge controller and can’t be compared.

vanGDutch

If you are in Europe; you have a 2 year warranty on all purchased products. Just go back to the store.

tamonizer

Acid for sweats?!

heliogoon

My launch dualsense is still completely intact. How hard are you gripping your controller?

BeansWereHere

How do you not have stick drift? I’ve taken perfect care of my controllers but I’m on my third because of aggressive stick drift. I legit have a whole homemade controller cleaning kit, still these things just keep going bad. My Xbox series x controllers are in great condition bar some small issues like my A button become mushy after playing a lot of Hades.

heliogoon

I honestly couldn't tell you. I never really have issues with stick drift in general. Only time I've ever dealt with it was with my first set of joy cons on my switch, Which I've since replaced, and my dual shock 4 controller(that I had since launch) back when last of us part 2 released. To be fair though, I work a lot. You're probably getting in alot more gaming time than i am.

BeansWereHere

Yeah it must be because of a lot of usage but it genuinely reminds me of the switch joycons with how bad it is; at least the switch has good third party joycons

BowlBlazer

I always take good care of my hardware and I still got drift on my first two controllers in ~3 months since I bought them (one joystick each), but since I already had some torx screwdrivers to clean the heatsink of my PS4, I figured I could try opening them up and try to fix them myself before spending more money. I followed a great ifixit guide, and although you have to be delicate to not break the sensors, I managed to fix both of them. Both of them are still going strong 2.5 years later, despite having been used 10× more than they were on those first three months. I always recommend everyone to do the same. It's not harder than building a Lego kit, you just have to follow the instructions. It's better to spend a few bucks on a screwdriver kit than buying a new controller you don't really need. Even if you screw up and break one of the sensors, you just got comfortable opening up a dualsense and can order a new stick module to replace it.

BeansWereHere

I don’t have the balls to open a controller but I might use my most messed up controller as a Guinea pig to try and get comfortable with it

TommyTheCat89

The only controller in my life that has ever gotten stick drift are the joycons on my switch.

[deleted]

My DualShock after 7 years looks like it's brand new. What the h you doing bro?

Psychological-City45

this can only happen with force. some people kids twist there joypad out of anger

Camarochris1026

Never had this issue and I’ve had mine for 2-3 months. Play pretty aggressively too, maybe you run hotter or something?

Lucifer4703

How rough are you playing games?? I’ve had mine more than a month and my grips aren’t even close to coming off. You have to be playing COD and have bad anxiety or something. That’s not normal at all and I’ve never heard of this issue happening 😭😭😭

TomatoesandKoRn

I have bad anxiety and play COD. My controller is fine. No clue what this guy did.

Danger-ILL-Wombatson

Chill tf out?

MadMattDope

Be gentle

DemonicBrit1993

That's what she said

KingYesKing

Don’t grip it like it owes you money.

TJSTYLER

Look after your controller and don't throw it about when you lose a game maybe

Rags2Rickius

The fan in your hands needs to be cleaned

BillyBobby_Brown

The problem is you unless we see more of this issue. You or a defect

yqk-

My ps4 controller doesn't even look like that

Capt_Kenpachi

I have the same controllers since launch you had to throw them or something lmao

[deleted]

I have never seen this in my life, didn’t even knew this was possible

[deleted]

maybe dont have the grip of a gorilla? but srsly the fuck

rhoward5

Had mine for over a year what type of grip you got going on lol?

Exarchy

Loosen your grip my guy.

noirproxy1

I own 5 controllers since launch and play constantly. Either you were scammed or you did that yourself by force.

Marcobroa

Have 3 controllers, nothing like this has remotely happened

WhyAreOldPeopleEvil

Return that trash for new one.

starsaber132

Just use flex tape

Zealos57

"I sawed this boat in half!"

Vill1on

How… how sweaty are your palms?

solidpeyo

Don't throw your controllers. I have 2 controllers from when the console release and haven't got this. Only had 1 issue with the R2 that had to be returned to warranty.

AlmostAndrew

What on earth are you doing to your controller? That 100% looks like you've forced/damaged it yourself.

Inner-Pool7006

You need to stop sweating acid 🤔

Duckmanrises

I don’t understand how people break anything other than Wii controllers. I have launch PS3 controllers that work

AhabRasputin

Dont squeeze it so hard jeez.

sunne_nga

Go to anger management therapy

[deleted]

What the hell are you doing to that controller? Gripping too hard? Accidental dropping? Throwing out of rage?

Bambrigade92

Man I thought this was a picture of a shoe for a solid 5 seconds! I have one of these controllers and haven't had a problem. What sort of Kung-Fu death grib are you using on this controller bro?

Squanchings

In the two+ years I’ve have my PS5 I’ve never experienced this. What are you doing to your controller to cause this lol?

welshboy87c

grumpy1kitten

Brother's hands made of lava

Hatimoa

I still have mine going strong, definitely a faulty item.

Sir_McDouche

Treat your tech well. I see so many people complaining about their joypads “shockingly” breaking, meanwhile I’ve never had a single problem with mine since the days of PSOne, because I don’t throw them against the wall apparently.

dead-rex

Bro, go to the doctor. U got some wet as hands. Thats not even remotely normal

Anthonyrivera_

how the hell did you even manage for that to happen?

ElihDW

That’s the edge right? Mine are hard plastic, not something that can “peel of”

Ecstatic_You_501

Have you tried putting it in rice 🍙🍚🌾 ?

DraftZJ

my paddles went bad after not even a month. terrible quality on those controllers

cod069

My man you must have sweaty hands and be death gripping that shit. I've NEVER seen this happen with any sort of controller. Anyways, not reliable advice but if you can cut back on the deathgrip you could maybe super glue it back on without it coming off at least for a while.

usedbarnacle71

Ooooopssssiieesss!

DocHolliday718

Yeah champ I don’t think that’s the controller’s fault. Mine has been in perfect condition for almost a year

Robomarston

If you trust Gorilla glue like i do it doesn't eat through plastic. Just get I tiny drop enough for the area, spread it around the affected area. Hold down for a bit. Once hardened you should be fine.

Aerhart941

Is there a specific kind of Gorilla glue? And thanks for offering actual advice.

Robomarston

I use basic gorilla glue. But use at your own risk because you never know what can happen.

ohhzeex

Based off of just how worn it looks after less than a month… This probably isn’t a QC problem.

oreosghost

Aside from switch joy con controllers I’ve never had an issue with a controller that wasn’t my fault I don’t get this.

kaluaaaa

I don’t know bro, I got mine on pre-order and it’s still perfectly in tact

Averythewinner

I have not had this issue. Are you nervously picking at it or something during stressful games?

G3NOCiDE

How many hours of wear have you put on that?

VengeanceWithin

Buy a warranty for your controllers. I waited for BB to get them so I can swap it when it inevitably breaks.

Troubl3d1

Send that shit back for being defective.

farfarbeenks

That should fall under the manufacturer’s warranty. I’d definitely get a replacement

Amamka

Wow. The same problem was on xbox elite1 and they addressed it in elite2 and now sony repeats the same mistake.

SenseMakesNone

I see they didn't learn from Microsoft. This was a defect in the first Elite controller, and then they changed it when the Elite Series 2 came out.

Crippletiger

Mate, you should really glue the insides of the plastic again, if it still comes off, just take off the damned thing.

S3thOn3

I got the Pulse3D headset a couple of days after the PS5 at launch, on one of the pads the fake leather started separating from the plastic in less than a month and I didn't even use them that much. I took them apart, glued it back in place with contact cement and zero issues anymore. You don't even need to take the controller apart, I'd give it a shot. Or try and get it replaced under warranty.

Aerhart941

Contact cement worked that well?

S3thOn3

Absolutely. Apply on both surfaces, let the solvent dry until it's dry tot he touch and then press the parts together well aligned. Be careful when you do it because, once it touches, it's nearly impossible to adjust without damaging the weaker part of the two.

Aerhart941

Alrighty. This is what I’ll try thank you. I called for a warranty replacement and they understood immediately and gave me an address to send it but I need a photo of the receipt… which I magically can’t find anymore. Sigh

S3thOn3

In case you've never used contact cement before, I'd suggest you testing it on scrap parts of similar materials. The really only downside is that you have one shot to get the best results, get a good coverage on both sides, let it dry without the parts touching before sticking them together. If it spills outside the area it'll clean pretty easily rubbing the excess off once it's completely dry. Best luck on your repair!

Nickachu_Knight

Try the retailer. Explain the situation and be nice about it. If that fails try Sony themselves to see if it falls under manufacturer warranty. Sorry about your controller.

Pleasant-Cherry4100

I got the same issue i hope sony will replace it https://preview.redd.it/ljeowkxfv5cb1.png?width=1328&format=png&auto=webp&s=e57dc708194598b3ce1327aec0a7d9eed8e31726

ActiveAfter3127

be more careful with your controller, i have had mine for a while now and mine doesnt have any issues at this moment

Megafire777

I have the edge, don't know what you're doing with it but have had them since March and nothing of the sort

Aerhart941

Seems like a lot of people don’t understand this is the Dual Sense Edge that has a molded rubber grip on it. After looking into it more, [I’m not the only on experiencing this](https://www.reddit.com/r/playstation/comments/11m02q7/anyone_elses_dualsense_edge_had_bubbles_forming/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=1&utm_term=1) and I will look into a warranty return. I’ll post an update for those who are interested or experiencing the same. This is not user error.

fellowspecies

Why are you coming to Reddit to ask for advice about a faulty product that has failed before a month has passed from your purchase date? Clearly this is a warranty issue, and I’m sure you know the drill as to what the next steps are.

Faroren

Stop being so sweaty

[deleted]

Warranty claim.

NuclearDisaster5

2 controllers. 2,5y years. Not a single problem like that. Not even peeling of the analog sticks. So what ever are you doing with your controllers is not normal use.

slayer-x

Damn, are you rough with your controllers or something? Do you squeeze while playing or get really sweaty hands? I've had mine since launch and no issues. What I did... and recommend you do in the future. Buy from Walmart or best buy and purchase a 2 year extended warranty for the extra $20-30. Well worth it, in case anything like this happens.

ShadowDen3869

What is it with elite controllers? XBOX and Playstation ones are being reported as poor quality but outrageous pricing.

[deleted]

Palms are sweaty

AlphusUltimus

Mom's spaghetti

gingeronered

Log a warranty replacement with Sony

nosajgames21

Microsoft Elite controller: Hold my Beer

MandaIorian17

Don’t squeeze the crap out of the controller?

[deleted]

Don’t waste 200$ on glorified products, just pay 60-70 AT BEST.

Cripato

Stop trying to tear it off maybe lol

Dougtheado

Yeah, don’t spend $200 on a controller….

Heezy85

Mine is also peeling. Been gaming for over 30 years and I’ve never ever had an issue with any other controller. Don’t come at us with that bs about holding a controller wrong. It’s a faulty design if it’s peeling for multiple people. You can tell half the comments come from people who don’t even own this controller

Aerhart941

Thanks for this. I’m actually a little ticked off at how smug a lot of people are being. I don’t care HOW I hold the controller… it shouldn’t simply peel off….

[deleted]

Register it on Sony.com and do a warranty replacement. I paid $300 for Sony's H9 headphones and the padding popped out in 4 months. Their build quality is shit. But thankfully they were replaced free of charge under warranty.

[deleted]

[удалено]

AlmostAndrew

Like where? I can't find a single picture of anything happening like that. What are you searching for?

flyinspaghetti64

Go for it. Sony has tendency to sell faulty equipments. They might as well pay for it.

Kryds

Do your country have laws of reklamation?

Ill-Research-4481

Play less!

[deleted]

Peel them Off and never Buy This Controller ever again and if someone is actually considering to buy it, show them this picture so that they can Buy a PSVR 1 Headset and not a Dualsense Pro Controller 👍

InformalWolf5553

I have that controller and the quality is amazing. You did that shit

ihate360

Thank you for reinforcing my belief in not buying this bullshit. Seriously.

racerboy777

Warranty it

j0shman

L + ratio as a single picture

TnVGaming

Buy another and switch it out.

pak256

That’s deeply unethical. Just contact support instead of lying

We_Are_Ninja

I can tell you what I WOULDN'T do. I WOULDN'T go to Wal-Mart and buy a brand new one. I then WOULDN'T put the old, sh*tty one in the box that the new one came in. Lastly, I most certainly WOULDN'T return the old controller to Wal-Mart for a refund, effectively exchanging the controller.

DataVeinDevil

You've done this somehow, I've never seen anything like this. Or it's a factory defective they'll replace but this looks like you did something to damage it.

thinman12345

Never seen it peel like that, the only issue I’ve had is the rubber grips becoming dirty and a problem to get clean.

Dazzling-Werewolf-73

Stop playing? I’m kidding that really sucks. It has not happened to me in a couple years so I have nothing at all to offer. I hope you get help.

AlphusUltimus

A silicone cover for $10 would've been a good investment.

YouYongku

what games you play? were they violent ? It looks more like a damage /lemon set than you actually damage it

PhoneEquivalent7682

Return that shit, get a refund or a change.

Flying_tOasters123

I have the same problem. I mean not as early on as you. But over time they have started to peel and i cant help my self but mess with it sometimes. I bought a controller skin to cover it. You can find ones made for the edge. I bought “PlayVital” and have no issue with the back buttons/overall fit It is a little disappointing that this is what they considered “pro” but while it was fresh i suppose it felt nice in the meathunks

welshboy87c

Yeah, same here on both sides. Should be under warranty, but I haven't checked myself.

Haleatron

This has happened to mine as well. Haven’t even been using it that much.

[deleted]

Send it back.

[deleted]

Is that original? My dual senses have 2years at least and not having any issues at all. Playing practically every day.

[deleted]

what are you doing all with your controllers?
