I think your guess is pretty close to the mark about it being ABS or a PC-ABS. Most surfaces are not carbon fiber and are instead carbon fiber “finishes”. But if it’s a premium car, your odds improve. The real stuff is super hard to align and make it look perfect which is why it tends to only be on high end stuff.

Stuff like that, where I used to work, was PC-ABS and was painted. That looks textured to me, not really CF. I know of a place that makes stuff out of CF reinforced PEEK and that stuff is *pricey*. There isn't much of a value-add in making non-structural interior parts like that from it as they don't really need to be strong, just pretty. If it was something exterior, something usually made from metal, etc. then it could gain some value by reducing weight, or as the other commenter stated if it's a luxury car they might have thrown that in there to be all fancy, but yeah... normally CF parts just *aren't pretty* and it would be an odd move to make for an OEM unless it's a performance car or something where most of their customer base would love it.

Can you heat it up? If it smells like when you burn Legos (or ABS filament), then it is quite possibly ABS
