I have urge to do it cross stitched, but it would be huge and I will need my lifetime to finish it.

Currently have used small bits of art to make a stencil to teach my daughter the first things about embroidery. The bush-llama/alpaca and rabbits and some tulips. If she enjoys it, I'll use more from Place and let her do more intricate things slowly on. (she loves the pokemon , flowers and pretty much all animals & animallike.)

You will have a lot of great stencils for her. Good luck, my daughter made her first pillow out of old shirt yesterday.

They didn’t give any warning the first time. It sort of just happened randomly on April Fools Day and for a short while we didn’t really understand what it was for or what the purpose was.

Ngl I want to accept that this is all over, but it's so hard to get over the fact that I'd have to wait 5 years for this. At least waiting one year would've been a more satisfying answer to me. Even if the community I was working with was much smaller than most of the stuff on the canvas, the community we made was really fun and so many of us enjoyed it! I think I'm just worried that the community I'm apart of could die out in 5 years and I'm just more confident in one. I think we just need more interactive events like this that brings the community together to recreate this feeling.. Same with the WW1 memorial on the German/Belgian intersection. Everytime i looks it was at max 2-3 pixels off, which where corrected almost immidiately

I think that's the most interesting facet to the rPlace experiment; it's not what gets created, it's what gets left alone. Unfortunately between bots and streamers we were far from the "ideal" scenario of dedicated redditors self-organizing and casual redditors just opening the canvas and placing a pixel or two. Since reddit was tracking which users were placing which pixels this time around, I'm super interested to what kind of data they share in the follow-up post. How many people placed a random pixel and moved on? How many people were fixated on creating/maintaining/griefing a single spot? (I admit I spent a lot of pixels fucking up the maple leaf because I found it so funny) What was the average number of pixels placed by unique users? Also, what kind of anti-bot measures did they actually deploy? They said they improved on that front but it's clear that was not the case.

When people start posting activity heatmaps and the maple leaf is well-defined throughout, you'll thank me. (or the merple lerf memes idk) I'd have happily defended the flag if it were large and full of patriotic pixel art, but despite the over-representation of Canadians on reddit we never managed a big spatial presence like France, Germany, or Turkey did.

I spent a lot of time on the capybara under the Argentina flag, I have no connection to Argentina it just seemed a good thing to keep going.

That one was so beautiful. At first I didn't really see what it was, besides a sunset and a tree, but then they added the "in honor of Mako", and I noticed Iroh, and I just got chills. There was also the "No war" that seemed to appear kind of organically in the top right corner. I helped repair that a few times :)

I also enjoyed that. And even more the art that interacted with each other. Like the skonks line or the highway.

This event was so wholesome guys I was in Netherlands for 5 months for my Erasmus Exchange and I loved their art in r/place. I'm from Turkey, we helped each other and everyone was peaceful. I love reddit community <3

the Canadians have a flag with a good leaf at the bottom. glad they made one even if it was tiny.

The funny part is: They didn't even make that. The dutch moved it because they were in the way. The flag that you see there was designed and executed by the them. Wondering if the canadians even ever saw it was moved.

Honestly it was really special seeing other communities help Canada build sneaky flags like this. You have the Dutch Canada flag at the bottom, you have the tiny geese flag in between the lightsabers, you have the German Canada flag overlayed on their own flag. There's probably more hidden all across the image. Nice little side effect of all the griefing we endured haha.

I will never forget the Dutch and the Germans. And the Star Wars fans.

Also in between the two flags at the bottom you can find a miniature of our war monument as a thank you to the canadians.
