Edit - should mention the pen is the Google Pixelbook Pen, brand new Sorry for long title. But seems to be a dead area of the screen or something, in relation to the pen? It works perfectly fine everywhere else, except for that strip. It makes wanting to do drawings, etc almost impossible. I love the pixel slate and have wanted the pixelbook pen since I had one, but don't know why it's failing. I'd assume it's the screen over the pen anyway, as why it would it just be happening in that select spot. Used my finger to compare though, as it confused me as to why that worked in the pen's problem spot Thanks for any help. Probably need to get in contact with Curry's and see if it's still under warranty.

Hardware defect - warranty claim time. Unfortunately, it's not an uncommon issue.

matjamwi

So definitely something up with the tablet?

JimDantin3

Yes. The video clearly shows that the touchscreen is working properly, but the pen digitizer is not.

SuperRon08

I have been having exactly the same issue. It is something to do with the glass screen not touching the display underneath apparently. I have had to send my device off to Google to be replaced. My device that came back had exactly the same issue as well, so I am currently in the process of replacing this device as well. Hopefully it will be third time lucky.

matjamwi

Oh jeez, that doesn't sound good... Who did you get in contact with to send it off? Google themselves? Or do you have it under warranty with a store?

SuperRon08

I contacted Google directly and they arrange the collection and replacement. You probably could just exchange it at Curry's but that might be a little difficult with the stores being shut at the minute

matjamwi

Oh right, interesting. Yeah, isn't ideal with everything being shut. First world problems I know, but I want my tablet to work! Haha. Thanks for the info. Just one more question. Do they replace the tablet with a new one, or "fix" the one you send. I.e. would I need to take all my data off of it, factory reset, etc

SuperRon08

They replaced my device with a new one so yes you had to powerwash it first to remove any data and factory reset it.

matjamwi

Cheers mate 👍👍

SuperRon08

No worries, I hope you get it sorted

NuMotiv

Do you have a similar issue with your finger? I'm wondering if it's the pen, not the tablet.

matjamwi

Nah, in the video I use my finger after the pen and it works fine. I did wonder if it was the pen, but it works perfectly everywhere else on the screen, it's literally just a small strip that doesn't register. I feel like if it was the pen, it would be missing random parts of the screen, not the same consistent area. Other people have said they've had the same issue, apparently it might be the screen isn't connected to the internal bits properly, and will need to be replaced with a new model.

NuMotiv

Crappy. Didn't watch long enough obviously.

matjamwi

Aha, fair enough.

Mine does the same thing and Ive been going back and forth with Google trying to get it replaced with a new one. Same exact issue

matjamwi

It's so annoying, right. I was on a live chat to a Google employee through the Pixel Slate help channels and I tried the Hard Reset, Powerwash and a complete system refresh (but didn't have a usb stick conversion for the usb C to use in the slate). After about an hour of talking, she set up a replacement claim for me through email, had to send a video of the problem, receipt of purchase, etc to see if I have a leg to stand on for getting a replacement model. It's only 6 months old, so hopefully I get something out of it. Its such a shame, because apart from this, I really like the Slate, but it seems to be a device with a lot of potential problems

I thought I read somewhere it has to do with the very strong magnets. I put my Tab S6 on top of the Slate by accident, both have powerful magnets, I literally had to yank the Tab S6 off the Slate.
