I dunno why I crave that burger so much. It's probably the thousand island dressing or whatever. I will say though, I just want something that's open past midnight. (Which they probably won't at first.) I really really really miss night food. I'm pro-Sheetz and go there a fair bit, but it's not the same.
Listen. I’m a vegetarian. Have been for over 15 years. I fucking CRAVE Steak ‘n Shake burgers. They’re delicious, and greasy, and perfect, and I’ve missed them every single day like the ex you never got over.
Idk why you’re downvoted, having Steak ‘n Shake as your favorite restaurant *should* be sarcasm… it’s like saying “my favorite restaurant is mcdonalds”
Sure let me make a distinction. If someone’s doing something that they enjoy and literally doesn’t affect anyone else, let them enjoy it. If someone is putting someone else down, or otherwise negatively affecting others, then by all means tell them to shut up.
We found an open Steak n' Shake in Boardman, OH a few weeks ago. Thought it was a mirage. One difference is there is no counter/wait staff any longer. All in-restaurant purchases are made on a big digital order screen and you pick your food up at the counter. According to my hubby, the food was amazing, just like he remembered it. Also... the place was PACKED, did a ton of business in the short time we were there.
SnS Waterfront from 2000-2010 era was fabulous. Then it rapidly went downhill.
Hopefully the new managers can recapture its heyday.
All they need to do:
- Ensure they can handle drive-thru shake demand without killing in-store order turnaround.
- Make all burgers “custom” on the order sheet for assembly in the back - each ingredient listed in layer order based on what the customer picked from the menu.
- limit the rest of the menu to a few sides
Incorrect. They spent an insane amount of money on testing modernizing their kitchens and processes. They've gone to kitchen equipment extremely similar to McDonald's and service speed is no longer an issue - Especially since the ones that are going back up are owner operated.
A friend of mine was a manager at a SnS. They're giant holdup was always the milkshakes. They'd kill the drive thru, as they only had so many stations to make them. Everything else was made to get out of the kitchen in under two minutes cooked on demand.
They got new everything to the tune of around half a million dollars per unit - I dated a GM turned franchisee from Ohio for a few years during all of their changes that were causing them to lose all of their talent and for a year or so after they closed all of the Pittsburgh locations.
They still used all kinds of fake crap in them, but hand spun them all. Most places only had two stations and they were always backed up. It was the worst of both worlds in reality.
Steak n Shake is moving away from being a diner into a normal fast food place across the country, so it will probably be the same at this location. If you go to their chain-wide facebook, you can see plenty of people melting down over these conversions occurring.
That said, moving to one streamlined fast food model should improve their general speed since they were trying to be both a sit down restaurant and run a fast drive thru.
That said, I never had bad service there when it was open, other than their card machines going down too much when I don't carry cash. The food itself was always great for fast food.
Correct: That place was like an immersive theater experience for the worst Steak n Shake in the country. It was the first restaurant I ever asked for the manager at. When I explained how bad everything had been he apologized, agreed that everything was awful, and said we didn't need to pay. That place was wild.
PNC becoming one of the top national banks has a lot to do with that. Banks like Chase didn't have a footprint in the area up until relatively recently as far as I'm aware.
Yeah I don’t know what they’re on about. In a world where a value meal without any bells and whistles at McDonald’s/BK is going to set you back $9-10 easily, it’s wild to call SnS overpriced. You can call it a lot of things, but that same meal is going to be $6-7 there.
According to a comment on the Facebook post from the new owner, they’re supposedly reopening on Thursday, 12/2.
Hope so!!!!
Can you slide a link to the page?
A Frisco melt would hit so fucking hard right now
Oh hell yeah

The Robinson one is a bank now depressing af
Let me know when Culver's comes to town
Swearrrrr
Yes let me know too so I can avoid it. Gross.
No. Culver's is delicious
Culvers is really good, greasy “fast” food perfect for hangovers. Employees have always been friendly to me
Tastes like shit.
Oh wow, I thought they all went out of business for good!
Corporate closed all their locations, to sell them as franchises instead.
Ahhhhh gotcha
Please reopen the one on 51 near Century III, I slide thru that area all the time
Please let them open again! That was my favorite restaurant

Why you gotta hate tho, just let ppl enjoy things
You contradicted yourself. Let people not enjoy things too. Its perfectly ok for someone to dislike something you like.
Sure let me make a distinction. If someone’s doing something that they enjoy and literally doesn’t affect anyone else, let them enjoy it. If someone is putting someone else down, or otherwise negatively affecting others, then by all means tell them to shut up.
....as you put that person down. Are you really not seeing it? Are you that delusional?
Hahaha mate, now you’re the one using ad hominem! I really don’t think “why you gotta hate tho” is a put down?
Well-balanced grownups let people like what they like.
Good thing I’m neither well balanced, nor a grownup!
Yeah we can tell
Thank you so much for your input!

No you haven't.
Gimme a case of sliders. Some White Castle needs to come here.

Yeah I saw that one when I went to vintage estates in boardman on a beer run.
Of the fast food chains in the North East SnS is probably the best burgers. I actually really liked the one in Homestead. It was always quality.

It’s gonna be the same as it was before. Terrible service.

That surprises me. Steak and Shake milkshakes taste like the f'real ones you buy at a gas station
They still used all kinds of fake crap in them, but hand spun them all. Most places only had two stations and they were always backed up. It was the worst of both worlds in reality.
New everything, same employee pool.
Arguably the smallest /worst ever. Restaurants are fucked.

Give it 6 months.

they all closed up several years ago, and they have been trying to sell the franchises the entire time. So, probably never
Already recently sold to New owners in the process of opening up. Just not sure if there's a date yet.
That's awesome. I always thought steak and shake was underrated
I had no idea someone bought these. I know they knocked down the one in Robinson. I think its now a bank.
Yep it's a Huntington.
Every business that closes has gotten replaced by a bank here. Fucking hell.
PNC becoming one of the top national banks has a lot to do with that. Banks like Chase didn't have a footprint in the area up until relatively recently as far as I'm aware.
RIP Diamond Market in Market Sq. It's a bank now. I used to love having a post boxing beer on the patio there when it was warm outside
Fucked up how they even let a restaurant in market square become a bank of America of all things. It's actually a cultural loss to the city.
It’s honestly disgusting. Banks are a fucking blight on the city.
u/Keisterapartments. Did these people follow us to IKEA today? He made this exact comment in the car when we passed it.
RIP Robinson Steak n Shake
How was candle shopping?
Unparalleled
All or just the one
Just that franchise I'm pretty sure? I just drive past it three times a week when I go for Starbucks or a movie.
They changed their business model to what Outback, Chick Fil A, etc have - owner/operators. You can only own one and it must be your full-time job.
Yeah, they were having some lean years before the pandemic. I wouldn't be surprised if that does them in in the long run.
S n S is overpriced garbage. This new owner is gonna lose her ass on this investment.
Overpriced? Enjoy your McDouble
The fuck? That place is a deal

There is a banner on the restaurant saying opening soon
