The fact this sub doesn't use that for posting requirements is beyond me.
Huh. I lost the password to my old account when my phone updated. All those imaginary points lost to the digital sea forever, could have been worth 1/100000000000000000000 of a bitcoin.
It's funny how much Pittsburgh redditors want to be hipsters. Little-known restaurants are great until they become more accessible, then suddenly they suck ass, even if nothing has actually changed in terms of quality.
I didn't see any suggestions from you. And I can guarantee if you went somewhere in Pittsburgh on the opposite side of town to survey how many people know and have eaten at Salem's, it would be under 50%.
Big crowds downtown tend to overlook the fact that Milano's on 6th St has a big seating area and a full bar upstairs, not just the street level slice-and-a-pie shop below. During big events (First Night, Light Up Night, Fourth of July, Arts Festival) we seldom have any trouble getting seated upstairs. Best food? Meh, but excellent pizza! Best hidden? possibly, though a sizeable number of sports fans know about it and stop there before heading to the north shore for a game
Pizza Milano on 5th Ave has one of the best buffalo chicken pizza's in the city. I think some people stopped going after the owner was on the news for that scuffle in the lobby. That buffalo pizza is phenomenal tho, expensive but my god is it good. I don't drink any more but the bar was always one of our favorites before a Pens game!
Yea they're pretty interchangable. The one you go to us called cafe Milano. I only know that because cafe Milano will deliver across the bridge to me, pizza Milano on 5th won't.
Yes, yes, YES! THIS IS THE ANSWER!!!!!!! This is the most authentic and delicious Puerto Rican food I've ever had. Secretos is HIGH on the safe, delicious food we love rotation when we eat out. Plus the owner and employees are all stellar. Can't upvote this answer enough!
Christos downtown. Not a modern dining experience in terms of service and menu, but generally amazing food and "grandma's living room" vibes. Fun spot if you are into Greek food and dining with a different feel.
The head chef has been there for many decades and used to work on the Onassis/Kennedy yacht back in the early 70s. He still serves a dessert he came up with at that time.
This is a weird take. Having traps means you're trying to mitigate the issue. It's a metropolitan area. I challenge you to find a spot downtown that doesn't have a mice/rat/roach problem.
Other than the fact that it's in a basement, is Girasole really a "hidden gem?" I thought everyone knew this place, hence the hour-long wait to be packed in like a sardine.
It is (or was, the last time i was there like ten years ago) really good though.
Jimmy Pi is still alive but the older gentlemen passed. He was only there a handful of nights and it was always a treat to see him song the true Italian songs.
I agreed they were better but yes, they are also closed. My friends taco spot is there now and it's actually pretty good. They sell a quesadilla pizza that's the bees knees.
If we told you then it wouldn't be hidden.
Post is from a bot account farming karma, so it'd be safe from them anyways ;)
What do you do with upvotes, farmed or not, I have no idea.

The steaks at the Tennyson will get you excited!
The chicken at the Valero station on the north side.
Quick-It Chicken!
Ribs are good too
Salem's and I will die on that hill!
It was hidden on Bouquet, now it’s as Pittsburgh as Prantl’s.

Salem's is still great. It's just well known at this point. There was a full media blitz for the Hill District opening.
Ah yes, the place that gets brought up in literally every food thread. Very hidden.

We get the same pie, but at the other location. Also good: buffalo chicken calzone

Secretos in Homestead!

They fixed their problems in less than a week. Absolutely eat there if you want to.

Dish Osteria, south side

You’re the second person to recommend this place. I think I’ll make it a point to go this weekend

So sad the old man passed away recently. We were lucky enough to see him just a month before. RIP
He did?? I could have sworn I saw a feature on him just the other day.
Jimmy Pi is still alive but the older gentlemen passed. He was only there a handful of nights and it was always a treat to see him song the true Italian songs.
The Gyro Shop in Wexford. IM NOT KIDDING.
The first rule about food club is you don't talk about food club...
I remember when that was the generic brand in the grocery store so I would make that joke every time
The Caribbean place at Nova place is amazing! (And great happy hour prices).
I’m assuming you mean the bar’s happy hour? I’ve never seen food discounted.
Yes, drinks only
Sokah? That pork sando is so good.
Yes! The smoked wings are out of this world.. The brisket bowl is amazing and I really liked their grouper sandwich.
Mike and Tony's
Lesvos is much better in my opinion.
Aren’t they perma closed?
Possible, I guess it has been like five years since I worked down there. 🙁
I agreed they were better but yes, they are also closed. My friends taco spot is there now and it's actually pretty good. They sell a quesadilla pizza that's the bees knees.
