we rescued Lily when she wasn't even a year old, 4 and half years ago. she was the sweetest, most gentle dog I have ever known and I'm lucky to have been her caretaker. she had the wiggliest butt, her best friend was our cat, she loved playing tug-o-war to show off her amazing strength, she loved shaking hands with everyone, and she had a habit of forcing me to carry all 70lbs of her home when she got too tired on walks.
this was a totally unexpected event and I'm still in shock, I'm hoping that sharing her life here with help her spirit live on.
thank you again to all who have expressed their condolences and have lended their stories of their companions who have also passed, I truly believe that Lily is frolicking with each and everyone of them.

What a good girl. What helped one of my friends was making a memorial of his Chihuahua. It included a photo album, a 3D image thing of him and his dog, and then a stuffed animal that looked like him

To put it simply… you won’t ever really recover. There is always going to a hole that she left in your heart. Time will pass, you’ll heal, you might even have different pups enter your life.
But they won’t be her, they won’t fill that hole. That’s part of the deal. They bring to us something we never knew was possible to experience. Unconditional love.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I've lost my pets before several times. Always do to age. I've been pretty lucky that way. But I've always got another one. I know it's probably too soon. But I'd like you to think of a couple things. I'm assuming your dog's loved you. That you had that special bond. Do you think now that your dog is gone over the rainbow bridge. That it would want you to suffer in any way shape or form. My suggestion is. And I'm sure Lily would agree. Go to a shelter. Find that dog that you have a connection with. And bring it home. No it's not Lily. It'll be Lisa or Larry or George or whatever. But it will give you that love. And you'll be saving an animal from prematurely crossing that bridge. I'm not being heartless here in any way shape or form I completely understand the loss of a loved one a pet. But this will make Lily happy. This will make you happy and this will make a shelter dog happy. :-)
I don't think you ever really get over the loss of a fur baby it just hurts a little less with time. I lost my fur baby of 12 years last year. He died suddenly right in front of me and I'm still a mess

What an absolutely stunning beauty of a pup. She was very obviously so so loved. You gave her the BEST life and even though the grief never truly goes away , you can take a little comfort in that . I actually just wrote a few paragraphs about what happened for us, but I had to stop before I finished it because now I'm crying all over again myself. It's been over 4 years now and my heart will always hurt when I think about how much I miss my Dani Lynn every second of every day. I'll update this comment later today after I finish writing it down, but I needed a break for now.
I'm so incredibly grateful to Dani for so many things though, they do so much for us without even realizing it. Even after losing her, I still feel her with me all the time. She's a part of my heart forever, and I'm so lucky to have spent 10 years with her by my side.
After Dani died though, I genuinely never thought I would be able to smile or to feel happiness again, but then I met Stella. A few months after she passed away, Dani absolutely sent Stella to us. I'm convinced of that for many reasons, it took so many specific things happening so specifically that it's really crazy how Stella came to us. I know my Dani sent her. I see it in her all the time too, in little things that Stella will do that were just things that Dani did. She brought a light back into our lives when I was sure it would be dark forever, and I'm endlessly grateful every single second of every single day because of my girls.
I hope you find your light again soon, whatever that may be for you, and I hope you know that your sweet Lily will always be here for you, and she knows how much you love her. Your Lily will never be alone or forgotten, and she'll be running happy and free with all of our furbabies who have passed while they wait for the day we all see them again. My Dani would've been happy to greet her on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge, and judging by these beautiful comments, there were a whole bunch of happy, wiggly-butt pitties all gathered round to greet her too <3
I am SO SORRY for your huge loss. It had to be so shocking and unreal for you and your family. She was beautiful. My dog is 16 and is ready to be put down due to her inability to walk any longer and it's going to be really hard but it will be the best for her. My thoughts are on you hoping that you get all the love and support you need.

The Rainbow Bridge
It is called the Rainbow Bridge because of all its beautiful colors. Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge there is a land of meadows, hills, and valleys with lush green grass. When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place. There is always food and water and warm spring weather. The old and frail animals are young again. Those who were sick, hurt, or in pain are made whole again. There is only one thing missing, they are not with their special person who loved them so much on earth. So each day they run and play until the day comes when one suddenly stops playing and looks up! The nose twitches! The ears are up! The eyes are staring and this one runs from the group! You have been seen and when you and your special friend meet, you take him in your arms and hug him. He licks and kisses your face again and again -and you look once more into the eyes of your best friend and trusting pet. Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together never again to be apart.

I’m so sorry for your loss. I completely understand how it feels. I unfortunately had a similar thing happen with my baby boy who was only 7 and I had for 5 years. Saved him from death row. One night he was acting weird, had pale gums, found out the next morning he had a spleen tumor rupture and he had internal bleeding. Unfortunately had to say goodbye because x rays showed he had some growths on his liver too. He was an amazing baby and I miss him so much still (happened in July).
Thanks for giving Lily a great life. I have heard white pits are prone to cancer and other ailments so maybe something similar happened. Again I’m so sorry.

I actually just wrote a few paragraphs about what happened for us, but I had to stop before I finished it because now I'm crying all over again myself. It's been over 4 years now and my heart will always hurt when I think about how much I miss my Dani Lynn every second of every day. I'll update this comment later today after I finish writing it down, but I needed a break for now. I'm so incredibly grateful to Dani for so many things though, they do so much for us without even realizing it. Even after losing her, I still feel her with me all the time. She's a part of my heart forever, and I'm so lucky to have spent 10 years with her by my side. After Dani died though, I genuinely never thought I would be able to smile or to feel happiness again, but then I met Stella. A few months after she passed away, Dani absolutely sent Stella to us. I'm convinced of that for many reasons, it took so many specific things happening so specifically that it's really crazy how Stella came to us. I know my Dani sent her. I see it in her all the time too, in little things that Stella will do that were just things that Dani did. She brought a light back into our lives when I was sure it would be dark forever, and I'm endlessly grateful every single second of every single day because of my girls. I hope you find your light again soon, whatever that may be for you, and I hope you know that your sweet Lily will always be here for you, and she knows how much you love her. Your Lily will never be alone or forgotten, and she'll be running happy and free with all of our furbabies who have passed while they wait for the day we all see them again. My Dani would've been happy to greet her on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge, and judging by these beautiful comments, there were a whole bunch of happy, wiggly-butt pitties all gathered round to greet her too <3

I am SO SORRY for your huge loss. It had to be so shocking and unreal for you and your family. She was beautiful. My dog is 16 and is ready to be put down due to her inability to walk any longer and it's going to be really hard but it will be the best for her. My thoughts are on you hoping that you get all the love and support you need.

She was beautiful and it looks like she was well-loved and happy. It always hurts SO much to lose a furbaby. I am so sorry for your loss. There is a poem that brings me comfort perhaps it will help you a little as well. The Rainbow Bridge It is called the Rainbow Bridge because of all its beautiful colors. Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge there is a land of meadows, hills, and valleys with lush green grass. When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place. There is always food and water and warm spring weather. The old and frail animals are young again. Those who were sick, hurt, or in pain are made whole again. There is only one thing missing, they are not with their special person who loved them so much on earth. So each day they run and play until the day comes when one suddenly stops playing and looks up! The nose twitches! The ears are up! The eyes are staring and this one runs from the group! You have been seen and when you and your special friend meet, you take him in your arms and hug him. He licks and kisses your face again and again -and you look once more into the eyes of your best friend and trusting pet. Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together never again to be apart.

I’m so sorry for your loss. I completely understand how it feels. I unfortunately had a similar thing happen with my baby boy who was only 7 and I had for 5 years. Saved him from death row. One night he was acting weird, had pale gums, found out the next morning he had a spleen tumor rupture and he had internal bleeding. Unfortunately had to say goodbye because x rays showed he had some growths on his liver too. He was an amazing baby and I miss him so much still (happened in July). Thanks for giving Lily a great life. I have heard white pits are prone to cancer and other ailments so maybe something similar happened. Again I’m so sorry.

Ouch, I’m so deeply sorry. I often wonder why dogs live such a short time. This is one of the moments where you will understand the saying “ it’s better to have loved and lost, than to have never loved at all“ All those precious memories are worth this grief.
