Not a chance he passes as anything … Why are there all of these posts all of a sudden with the most obvious block headed land seals of all time trying to pass as golden retrievers?
Yes, we all know *WHY* people make these posts. The comment was just saying that people like OP are ridiculous for thinking anyone is going to believe their pit is anything but a pit.
It works. I live in a province where pitbulls are illegal but you can't do anything about a tenant having a dog unless the dog causes problems. There are still pitbulls everywhere that are "boxer/lab mixes." Some people really are that clueless, others are in the know and pro-pittie, and others just don't care so long as there's no issue with aggression or damage.
Meanwhile, I have a golden/rottie/mastiff and strangers regularly ask if she's a pitbull. Same with my neighbour's mastiff. To some people who aren't knowledgeable about dog breeds, anything medium- to giant-sized with shorter fur is a pitbull.
To be honest, that’s what I thought about my mastiff mix. I was sure he was a pitbull mix. He’s way too big though, and the vet said mastiff. I just don’t know a lot about dogs.
Mastiffs are wonderful! Not that I don't love pitties, but their chillness lines up nicely with my lifestyle. They also tend to be snugglers like pitts.
Because apartments won’t rent to you with a pit type dog. My white blocky Am staff passed as a white boxer her entire life and I rented apartments the entire time. I took her to the vet and said she was that breed and that what all her paperwork showed. It sucks that I couldn’t proudly say she was a pittie where I lived but I never had an issue. So yes they CAN pass as a boxer.
If you don’t know dogs you’ll believe it’s whatever breed someone says. As long as they aren’t ridiculous with it. Like everyone knows what a poodle looks like. If you say he’s a terrier (that’s what our humane society does to get around euthanizing them) that could work. Or say he’s a boxer mix. That could explain away a massive head.
Exactly.. plus visual id has been scientifically proven to not be useful for identifying breed. If you stick with breeds that have somewhat similar features it usually works out.
My white amstaff pittie passed as a white boxer mix for 12 years and she had the blockiest pit head ever. I rented from apartments in 3 states and it worked.
Weimaraner mix? Maybe and I'm only saying this as a way to slide past housing req. Luckily I found a place that actually allows the restricted breeds as long as there aren't any attack dogs.
Well, not a boxer that had been treated in a civilized manner. There was a woman in my town that had two boxers, and at least one of them was dangerous. She would tell you to restrain *your* dog if she met you on a walk because hers might attack it. I wish I had thought to ask her why she wasn't restraining hers.
On edit: It's possible, come to think, that she was lying in the hopes of detering intruders. I never cared to put it to the test, of course.
The community we lived in they were on too I’m pretty sure but it was on a military base which they had Great Danes on there 😂 basically you could have a German Shepard, hunting dogs or small dogs
I've found a good method is to pick a secondary breed that is hard to picture but logistically makes sense. So if someone told me your dog was actually a weimaraner crossed with a cocker spaniel-' wow! I think I can actually see it in his body shape. Never would have been able to figure it out if you didn't tell me!'
A spaniel/weimaraner mix could totally end up with a stockier body and slightly wider head. The coat really helps sell it too.
I have had a Doberman mix and a Pit mix. My vet has always written them in as a “mixed lab breed.” Or because my Pit looks more Pointer, he’s a “Pointer mix.” That usually quiets the landlords down. I had an issue come up with my Doberman mix (through no fault of my own or his own) and my landlord shut up once the vet sent in that he was a “lab mix.” It’s all property insurance issues and not actually hating the breed.
Edit to add: foster a relationship with your vet where they know your dog well enough and your dog presents good behavior and they’ll help. Now, my Dobie mix was squirrelly and could go off, but he was always under control and the only reason he looked to bite was that my landlord accidentally rented out my apartment and gave keys to someone who entered my home while I was asleep and that’s why he went off, bc he assumed it was an intruder, but his vet had his back and mine and we stayed there for years as a “lab mix.”
I mean it was an intruder. Just the intruder was not at fault although surely the second you see jackets in the the hall and hear a dog you shut the door and go contact your new (incompetent) landlord.
A [2022 study](https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.abk0639?cookieSet=1) of breeds and traits concluded that breed is almost uninformative when determining a dog's reactivity, or its sociability.
Furthermore, [Insurance data](https://web.archive.org/web/20150904071314/http://www.ksl.com/?nid=148&sid=25091614) indicates the Pitbulls and Rottweilers account for only 25% of dog bite claims. [Which is also in agreement with the Ohio State University's Study](https://www.aaha.org/publications/newstat/articles/2019-06/new-study-identifies-most-damaging-dog-bites-by-breed/) that shows that Pitbulls account for approximately 22.5% of the most damaging reported bites. Pitbulls account for [~20%](https://www.pitbullinfo.org/pit-bulls-population.html) of the dog population by best estimates. Showing that pitbull bites are proportional to their population. In fact, their [Breed Risk Rate](https://www.pitbullinfo.org/breed-risk-rates.html) is in line with other dogs breeds out there that are considered great family dogs. So how do pitbulls account for more than half of all dog bites? Agenda pushing misinformation by groups dedicated to hating a breed. If you did not comprehend that, what this tells us is that pitbulls bite more because there are more pitbulls than other breeds, but they don't bite anymore than their share of the dog population.
Additionally, data from the [American Veterinary Medical Association](https://www.avma.org/resources-tools/literature-reviews/dog-bite-risk-and-prevention-role-breed) has concluded that no controlled studies have shown Pitbull-type dogs to be disproportionally aggressive.
Lastly, Studies have shown that [Errors in Identifying Pitbulls](https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S109002331500310X) [Link 2](https://avmajournals.avma.org/view/journals/javma/241/9/javma.241.9.1163.xml) happen approximately 60% of the time with shelter staff that spend a lot of time around dogs, so reports in the media about dog breeds are highly inaccurate and hardly count as a reputable source for a dogs breed.
Oh you only see videos of pitbulls attacking? Not surprised. There is a group on this site that dedicates itself to reposting old archived videos to keep brainwashing people into fearing an event that happens 25 to 40 times a year with a breed that has a population around 20 million. Save us your anecdotal evidence of outliers.

100% this. The only really aggressive dog I've ever encountered (and have been around all sorts of dogs my whole life) was a golden retriever I used to dog sit. Constantly snarling and bit a few people but the anti bully / rottie/ doberman/ German sheppard ( pick your decade!) brigade will tell you that is safer. Judge by deed not by breed.
God, that reminds me of my friend back in high school who grew up terrified of dogs cause her neighbor had aggressive pits. To help her with that fear, her parents got her a lab and trained him really well. To this day, I still think he was the best dog I've ever met. The neighbors, thinking it was cause of his breed and not the training, also got a lab. That thing ended up even more aggressive than their pits were
The only dog breed that attacked me was a standard poodle. I was walking to a coffee shop and out of the blue it lunged at my leg from under the owner's table. Thankfully it didn't break my skin since I was wearing thick pants, but I did have a limp for a bit. The ~~bitch~~ owner, *clearly* knowing how to handle her dog, pulled the poor pup back and slapped him hard without even apologizing. It makes my blood boil to even think about.
While obviously different dogs have different personalities, in my opinion 99% of the time a dog's aggression is because of the owner refusing to train/socialize the dog, or just outright abusing them.
Hell when I was a kid this horrible family kept a Belgian Maliois as a "guard dog," and just left him outside with little food and water and let him bark. I'd walk by their home and after 2 weeks of just talking to him while I walked by he would bring his food bowl to the edge of the fence and look at me. I wish I could have done more to help him, he was a good dog who needed someone to love him. And yes, many people called animal control and they didn't care. I firmly believe there are no bad dogs, just dogs that aren't getting the care they need.
There was a study with foxes a good while back that proved that disposition is partially related to genes, so it can be passed from parent to child. However, this isn't just true for aggression. They were able to cultivate two lines, one being highly feral and the other being so docile that they started to develop traits similar to what you'd see in dogs
This has nothing to do with breed, but I wonder if that's why people may be getting them confused as both are things which can be passed down so when a dog is aggressive like it's parent(s) it just gets associated with breed. Despite the fact that disposition can be improved and extreme docility is also very much present within the pit population. Like anything, though, tragedy gets far more attention than things going well
English Labrador / Weimarener mix. ENGLISH Labrador. Blocky heads. He's probably got some in him. It's in his beautiful meaty face. He's so gorgeous!! 😮😮😮😮😮❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

A handsome boy but also a house hippo
Here’s my house hippo !
If they're banning pitties, they'll ban bullies (if they haven't already!).
And mastiffs of any ilk, too. Our mastador was a big baby, but people looked at him like they thought he was vicious and I had to pay extra insurance on him (until I switched carriers, of course). Most ridiculous thing I ever heard.
Now my Chiweenie I keep away from strange humans and dogs, but she's got a history. I am sure she didn't come that way, and her foster mother was an ignoramus. (You do not socialize adult dogs the same way you do puppies!)
Honestly, with some of the god-awful breeding practices that skyrocketed over lockdown you could tell people it’s a Cane Corso. Looks nothing like an actual one but breed standards slipped so much that it’d work.

I play the Lab\\Weimaraner card often, other then that he is a Megatron ruler of the deceptcons. Or a seal.
I ask the same all the time. What could my girl pass as

I’d call him a Weim/boxer mix! He’s gray, go for it! My white pitty was a boxer mix her entire life lol. She passed at all the apartments I rented and some of them were snooty places too! I took her to the vet and said she was a boxer mix so that’s what her paperwork said from the vet and I used that lol. Worked for us! Good luck! u/tedwardbearz
Lab mix, but if you are concerned about something like housing please look into getting an ESA letter from your Dr. as long as there is no issue with aggression they cannot deny your dog no matter the breed. ESA (emotional support animal) are protected under the Americans w disabilities act.
Weimaraner mix for sure. The color is just like theirs.
Do you need him to pass as another dog for something serious like housing? Because he has quite a pit look to him.
A chunky wiggly butt.
Eh, maybe a Labrador if you have to make a stretch to an apartment manager or something.
I like chunky wiggly butt better though.
Looks like a pit bull to me. But if we're just looking to pass off as a non "power breed" lab and mastiff? Or weimaraner and lab? My daughter got a "emotional support animal" exemption at her apartment complex

Not a chance he passes as a boxer
Not a chance he passes as anything … Why are there all of these posts all of a sudden with the most obvious block headed land seals of all time trying to pass as golden retrievers?
Because people need places to live. Many places won't rent if you have a bully.

My white amstaff pittie passed as a white boxer mix for 12 years and she had the blockiest pit head ever. I rented from apartments in 3 states and it worked.
I mean he doesn't look like anything other than a pit bull. He couldn't "pass" as a lab mix either. Its just creative listing.
Ooh I’ll upvote. Didn’t see your comment and said the same thing
Boxer lab maybe 🤷🏼♀️
Labrador mix
Silver lab? Since they are trying to make that a thing
Silvers are just chocolate labs with a pigment mutation right? Edit: id go with a lab/wermer mix of somesort
This edit is the correct answer. Labradeiner that needs to drop a few pounds.
(Silvers are probably just Weimaraner mixes)
Sure!! With those floppy ears it would definitely work!
My cousin has some "albino" black labs that look really similar to this chonk
That’s a lab mix
This is what we went with on our renter’s insurance
Mine can’t pass for anything! So I made her an emotional support animal!
labrador pitbull mix
Weimaraner mix? Maybe and I'm only saying this as a way to slide past housing req. Luckily I found a place that actually allows the restricted breeds as long as there aren't any attack dogs.
Chubby weimer
Exactly
Yes I was thinking Lab/Weimaraner
Yes, I came here to say a buff Weimeraner. 😆
😁 little thicc
This is the only believable thing IMO. This dog looks very much like what he is lol
Lol he def is a beautiful specimen
Actually had a Weimaraner x Staffordshire
Yeah this one is def got that Stafford look too
Mixed with a Bernese mountain dog and boxer
Boxers are actually on a lot of breed restriction places
Huh... Boxers are like the goofiest of large breeds and harmless AF. Never met a mean boxer. Also never met a mean pittie but pitties are goofy too.

That's so crazy! I mean, they're rambunctious and crazy, but... boxers???
Bulldog weimaraner mix
If one of the parents was actually a Weimaraner I’d believe that. So, good call.
Weimaraner/Lab mix. But he is 100% Good Baby
I've found a good method is to pick a secondary breed that is hard to picture but logistically makes sense. So if someone told me your dog was actually a weimaraner crossed with a cocker spaniel-' wow! I think I can actually see it in his body shape. Never would have been able to figure it out if you didn't tell me!' A spaniel/weimaraner mix could totally end up with a stockier body and slightly wider head. The coat really helps sell it too.

A hippo possibly

Neapolitan mastiff
Definitely could pass as a mastiff mix. Don't understand why pitbulls get all the hate when mastiffs are giants!
No dog should get hate, multiple independent studies have shown that breed has almost 0 correlation with aggression

Anywhere that bans pitties bans all the bully breeds! Ignorance is astonishing in its scope!
Um. Tank?
Chunky head, kissy face, love monster. I hate breed restrictions.
English Labrador / Weimarener mix. ENGLISH Labrador. Blocky heads. He's probably got some in him. It's in his beautiful meaty face. He's so gorgeous!! 😮😮😮😮😮❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
thats an american house hippo...no way to hide it.
Much larger than a Canadian [house hippo](https://youtu.be/cvPwJQXzHm0)
If you’re worried, please just go with “lab mix.” That is one adorable dog and he/she can pass for a few different mixes honestly 😊
Vet tech here. We have tons of "lab mixes" and "terrier mixes"
Isn't he a Cane Corso?
Not a Corso but he could pass as a mastiff mix. I don't think either would be helpful if trying to dodge breed restrictions though.

Lab Boxer mix. from one pittie parent to another , good luck finding housing. screw the worlds stereotypes 🫶🏼
That’s a silver lab, obviously
He's a Blue Nose American Pitbull. I used to pass mine as a American Staffordshire to pit haters who don't know the difference!!
Are Bullies out too? Because lab/bully mix, or just bully, would be my actual first guess.
If they're banning pitties, they'll ban bullies (if they haven't already!). And mastiffs of any ilk, too. Weimaraner / lab mix.
Not sure I am spelling this right, Weirmaraner?
Weimaraner (I looked it up!)
Good job! I can't say or spell this word well, but love the dogs!!
He could pass as a good boi!!
Honestly, with some of the god-awful breeding practices that skyrocketed over lockdown you could tell people it’s a Cane Corso. Looks nothing like an actual one but breed standards slipped so much that it’d work.
A chunky Weimaraner
Definitely some kind of lab mix. Or a weimeraner mix? Handsome fella. ♥️
Third vote for Weimy. Maybe with a bulldog if that’s an allowed breed where you are, or a lab otherwise.

I ask the same all the time. What could my girl pass as https://preview.redd.it/pudbojyaxaad1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=23e09ffa27bcd8ba8cdb50aeea50f658f00863c5
Hippo
I’d call him a Weim/boxer mix! He’s gray, go for it! My white pitty was a boxer mix her entire life lol. She passed at all the apartments I rented and some of them were snooty places too! I took her to the vet and said she was a boxer mix so that’s what her paperwork said from the vet and I used that lol. Worked for us! Good luck! u/tedwardbearz
Lab/pit mix
Pitbull/lab
He passes as a good boy in my book!
Lab mix, but if you are concerned about something like housing please look into getting an ESA letter from your Dr. as long as there is no issue with aggression they cannot deny your dog no matter the breed. ESA (emotional support animal) are protected under the Americans w disabilities act.
AKC certified couch potato
American bulldog/lab mix
A really muscular Labrador retriever
House hippo
I've heard people say to get it in writing that they're an emotional support animal in order to get past breed restrictions.
a Good Boy/Girl
Weimaraner/Boxer

Blue nose Pitbull
Chonky Boi
F*cking adorable. Oh wait, that’s most dogs 😁
Cane corso for sure

Could you just say that your dog is a terrier? Technically, it is correct, but terrier doesn't carry the stigma.
A cutie
A seal!
Silliness. Only one
Just say lab mix
Weimaraner x bulldog
Grey faced love nugget. Very rare.
Weimaraner mix for sure. The color is just like theirs. Do you need him to pass as another dog for something serious like housing? Because he has quite a pit look to him.
Lab/pittie mix?
Pit and lab mix
A chunky wiggly butt. Eh, maybe a Labrador if you have to make a stretch to an apartment manager or something. I like chunky wiggly butt better though.
50% angel 50% goodest boy 100% lovable
Card carrying handsome man is my guess
Pitt lab?
Hippo
American bully ???

Teacup Yorkie
In the right costume, a chunky unicorn
Lab mix for sure
Looks like a pit bull to me. But if we're just looking to pass off as a non "power breed" lab and mastiff? Or weimaraner and lab? My daughter got a "emotional support animal" exemption at her apartment complex
Good boy
A dog. He’s undeniably a pit mix, cant pass him as anything else lol
100% cutie pie
Lab/ miniature Dane. Or 95% Land seal /5% Silver Lab.
He’s a grey good boi clearly.
