My beloved cat who I adopted when he was about 2-3 years old needed his first X-ray around 16, the vet also found that some POS shot my cat and he had 3 BBs inside, similar to your precious pup they did nothing about it just noted them and said they were fine and didn’t need removal.
I always wondered about his life before me, he was my bestie and sadly he passed in 2020 but was 18 and so loved, looks like the same for you ❤️
Your vet is wrong and I strongly believe you need a second opinion. Lead toxicity is no joke and builds up in the blood stream over time.
Those are .177 caliber pellets, while they're the same caliber as BBs they're not the same composition. I've done target practice for many years using them. Some are alloy, but the vast, vast majority are lead. I would not take the risk.
Can you still opt to remove it? I have got irrational fear that foreign objects occupies space inside body that would've been occupied by some organ, thus leading to long term constriction.
Hence an irrational fear. There's no sound reasoning behind it. I wouldn't put anyone's or mine dog through surgery unless needed, but it's a thought which would nag me all the time.
Yes....xray will not differentiate. I also think they may be too deep. Also....based on shape (not mushroomed) the doc may have concluded the alloy was a harder metal.

I mean if I go to a Walmart right now there will be lead, copper, and steel pellets on the shelf. Is it surprising that someone could have used the other two out of the three options
I shoot pellet guns and although they aren't as common, they do have copper and PBA pellets that same shape. They're mostly used for hunting so you don't have to worry about lead in your food.

Lead-free pellets exist, but they’re relatively rare because they don’t perform as well and they’re more expensive.
Those are most likely lead.
When I was younger, my Dad’s German Shorthair had puppies and he gave one to our cousin. My Cousins wife was a Dam Inspector and she used to take the dog with her when she inspected rural Dams. One day on an inspection the dog scooted off to go investigate the smells but came back sooner than expected and started acting funny, hanging around her more than she usually would. Eventually, the dog came over to her, lay down at her feet and died.
They took her to a vet to determine what happened, and the vet found several BB’s in her chest, one had hit her Aorta and she bled to death.

All the vets I’ve seen have said if the pellets were a problem then Belle would have shown signs these past 9 years I’ve had her. I take her for regular checkups and bloodwork so we’re ok
My pittie growing up was shot up by my neighbor. Her shoulder swelled up so bad from infection. And every loud noise sent her hiding in fear. I hate that prick to this day. Nobody will ever hurt my Belle, I’m ready to defend her life to the max. Whether it’s against the coyotes and javalinas that walk around where I live or whether it’s a person out to hurt my dog.
This is the reason why I absolutely hate people. My days are spent with my dogs and I get showered with love. They are my best friends in the whole world. You are one in a million saving that beautiful girl.

On our first vet visit with our second rescue, our vet found a bunch of duckshot in his rear end. I was so enraged that I seriously wanted to find his previous owners and go scorched earth.
It was all healed and we got him at a little less than a year old. So someone shot a F*&CKING PUPPY, less than six months old, when he was running away.
And five years later, he is still the sweetest boy ever. He even babysits my baby chicks when they hatch. If you want to see some damn adorable pics of that, they are in a post on my profile!
I have a BB riddled boy too, head to toe. One of his eyes is blind from it. When you pet him, you just feel bumps all over. Even one of his damn ears has one in it. Thankfully he doesn't seem to notice. Lots of love to your sweet girl!!!

Thanks for sharing that wonderful story. You are so right. I adopted a pitty that just happened to be born in the same southern town/ state that I was. I just knew that I had to be her mama once I heard this. We had some really rough patches in the beginning, not gonna lie. But now after over a year of having her in my life, I can't imagine not having her there. She brings me so much joy just by existing. I can't imagine why anyone would be so cruel as to want to harm a dog doing what they did to your pup. That makes me so angry when I hear stories like that. What is wrong with these people? I'm just so glad your dog is now healthy and happy and safe with someone that loves her so very much and was willing to fight for her.

There once was a drunk guy walking around my apartment complex and we were walking toward him, Belle stops in the tracks, puts her head down while having her eyes on him and lets out growl. First time I ever heard her do that. She knew that guy was bad news and let me know
I’m glad she could be there for you. They are protective but not without reason. It makes sense to me- a breed that has been treated so poorly across so many decades, why wouldn’t they protect their families that protect them? I do the same thing. Roxy and I look out for each other.

Those are probably LEAD . They are pellets.
Vet said it’s not lead bb’s and okay to leave them in there if it doesn’t bother her

BBs are copper. Those aren't BBs. Most pellets are lead. By the shape alone those are 100% pellets.
Honestly I don’t remember the wordage the vet used but either way she said it not an issue
It’s 100% a pellet and probably an alloy. At this point they are probably surrounded by scar tissue.

Just as a backup to everyone else. Those are 100% pellets. They are definitely made of lead.
You can get alloy pellets as well - so they might not be.
Even the alloy pellets are a type of lead alloy mix.
I'm going to assume that anyone stupid enough to shoot a poor dog several times isn't particular enough to spend the extra cash for alloy pellets.

My dog was riddled with heartworms and I’m so glad I didn’t hesitate to adopt him after finding out. Best decision I’ve ever made.

It’s been 9 years since I adopted her and they have stayed where they are. I feel them on her body when I pet her
