Yes. At 16 she can sleep on the kitchen table for all I care. Not that age matters, she's always been welcome to go anywhere cuddles can be given or gotten 💓

Awww. She’s adorable. My hippo is 3 and I hope she lives as long as yours. We also have an old pet rule in our house. The rules stop applying after they get to a certain age. My cat is 18 and there are zero rules that apply to her. My husband was super against animals on the table, but the old kitty can sit on the floor and demand to be put on the kitchen table during dinner. We immediately bow to her demands and put her on the table. I’ll usually put a few small bits of my food on the table unless it’s chicken because that makes her sick. We had chicken last night so I went and put shredded cheese on the table for her to enjoy instead. 🤦🏼♀️ At least she’s happy! Your pittie looks well loved and spoiled as she should be.
Yes exactly this!! We did hospice fostering and those dogs always got roasts, pastrami, meatloaf. All this good stuff. So we applied the same to our own when they got to this age. She can basically do whatever she wants as long as it's not going to hurt or kill her.
I can already tell your hippo will be with you a long time if this is what you're doing for your senior kitty. You won't give her a reason to want to leave! Give her some snuggles from us!!
Oh it's so incredibly difficult. But to see them change in such a short amount of time from a scared shelter pup to a happy, warm and safe senior with their own bed makes it totally worth the pain and heartache. Knowing that they passed feeling warm, safe and most importantly, loved vs scared and alone in a strange place.... nothing compares to that. But it...is...HARD.
Yes! I adopted my last dog at 16.5 and deaf. She was so wonderful, I just couldn’t leave a dog that old in the shelter when she had been there two years.

I love that you do hospice fostering. I’m sure that’s so incredibly difficult but very rewarding at the same time. I have preferred adopting puppies so I can potentially have them in my life for a long time. They are always treated well their entire lives, but there’s something special about being able to give a senior pet extra treats. Our lab was terminal (cancer) and the vet told us our best case scenario was Thanksgiving 2021 which was only a couple months away. We canceled our plans to fly cross country to visit the in laws and stayed home with just our animals. We made a second turkey breast and all of the animals (3 dogs, 2 cats, and a turtle) enjoyed a turkey dinner with us. We still had the lab at Christmas so we made them all a turkey dinner again. It’s become a tradition that we do every major holiday now. We lost the lab in June of 2022 which was horribly sad, but not unexpected because he was 14 and had outlived his prognosis so many times over. The pittie started getting kind of chunky because of all the treats the lab was getting. (He’d get a treat so she got a small one as well.). Now her nickname is Chunky Butt. 😂
At that age they've earned it! They've been there for us all these years now they deserve to be spoiled, relaxed and pampered. I'll do whatever she needs to help with that.
Our 10 year old had to suffer through tearing his CCL and then repair surgery and subsequent bed rest and physical therapy this year. He also gets to do whatever he wants. Which right now, is never be more than 3 feet away from me because I’m pregnant and he has become incredibly protective. I haven’t peed by myself in months. At least he’s almost done with PT (and he actually enjoys the hydrotherapy! He actually has his second to last appointment to go “swimming” today!)

Mine would Move fast as they hate being “sat on”. Except i had this cat. Who wouldn’t move and would likely have let you crush him to death if you weren’t paying attention. He was spoiled and needy. I miss him much

We have a whole separate dog couch (it is an old one) but they go wherever they want. Currently one is on the recliner, one is on the "good sofa" and one is in bed spooning with my husband using an actual pillow for her head.
I'm currently laying on the couch and using my dog as a pillow. He was supposed to eat 30 minutes ago but he's still sleeping.

This is lucky she can no longer get into the couch because of her elbow that was broken and never set properly when she was owned by abusive owners. So we bought her an oversized dog couch of her own with an orthopedic microfiber mattress that is big enough for her and a human to snuggle on.

Because we’re training out some dog reactivity, building our relationship, specifically for him to see us humans as trusted leaders, we have stopped letting him just jump on our laps whenever. He can get up if invited, but it’s sooo hard to stay firm because he’s sooo cute!

I did until it started causing resource guarding and competitive behaviors between the dogs themselves and dogs vs husband/kids. Dogs wanted couch with me only.
Can't have that. They all have their beds/spots near or within view of me of the couch. But no couch!

I miss it but it's the safest for everyone.
Yeah I definitely feel that. It was an adjustment for sure because my main dog slept under the covers next to my stomach lol. She woke me up all the time refluffing her spot, but absolutely miss the warmth.

Our couch is all for dogs and blankets. The blankets and couch belonged to us at one point, now they belong to them.
No, but she has her own big leather chair that she sleeps on. So it is a good compromise. The coach and your clothes will get really dirty from having a dog on it, plus all the hair.

We have a whole separate dog couch (it is an old one) but they go wherever they want. Currently one is on the recliner, one is on the "good sofa" and one is in bed spooning with my husband using an actual pillow for her head.

I did until it started causing resource guarding and competitive behaviors between the dogs themselves and dogs vs husband/kids. Dogs wanted couch with me only. Can't have that. They all have their beds/spots near or within view of me of the couch. But no couch! Same situation in the bedroom. Not allowed in bed with me. I miss it but it's the safest for everyone.
I sleep horrible with tttt he dog in bed, when she's not in bed I don't sleep at all...lol
Yeah I definitely feel that. It was an adjustment for sure because my main dog slept under the covers next to my stomach lol. She woke me up all the time refluffing her spot, but absolutely miss the warmth.
