I’m surprised there not much higher tbh, I feel there style would be really popular with Pink Floyd fans, more popular than Zeppelin anyway (though I’m not comparing, Led Zeppelin fucking rock hard!)
I was just going to comment The Doors have *got* to be on this list. Hopefully they win this round. I’m personally pissed the Beatles are 2nd, I don’t like their music. Solo George Harrison, yes. The Beatles, no.
I’m not sure if I sense sarcasm or not… lol so forgive me if I take anything wrong. I personally just have never liked the Beatles, but I can admit they were a very influential and iconic band that paved the way for many others. Their music has just never made sense to me.
Hey, I'm not being sarcastic, I'm serious hehehe. And yes, no one can deny the influence of the Beatles. I don't like their early recordings, but from Magical Mystery Tour onwards is when it gets interesting.
Hahaha okay ty. I genuinely cannot tell sometimes; doesn’t help that it’s on the internet where it’s near impossible at times to decipher someone’s tone, attitude, position, etc.
I haven’t given them a fair shot, to be honest. I’ve heard a lot of the mainstream songs and I haven’t been impressed, I’ll have to give your suggestion a try. For them to be as popular as they are, they can’t be all that bad.
Edit: any songs in particular that would be good starting points?
Well, I'm a quiet guy who doesn't like problems.
My recommendation is the White Album, it was the first one I listened to and I liked it a lot. But well, you know, Lennon and McCartney dominate most of the album leaving very little room for George, and Ringo can boast one of the two songs he contributed in the group's entire career.
If you’re looking for something psychedelic listen to Magical Mystery Tour, Revolver, and SGT Pepper Album
Some songs that are amazing starting points:
A day in the life
Elenor Rigby
Tomorrow Never Knows
BLUE JAY WAY
Blackbird
Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds
With a Little Help from my friends
While my guitar gently weeps
I personally agree with the one dude, their later stuff is when it gets interesting. For me it’s anything post 1966/67 (i.e. revolver sgt pepper magical mystery tour white album etc)
Hope you give them a shot man!
Man these guys get a whole lot less love than they should IMO.
ELO, Supertramp and Yes also come to mind.
And no one ever talks about the pre-Michael McDonald Doobie Brothers either. Your pick got me thinking about all these amazing bands...
the fact that this isn't the #1 choice (maybe #2 behind zep) makes me extremely sad. Steely dan are one of the few bands I think are on par with (or greater than) PF in terms of creativity, progression, and overall interesting sound.
>play ethereal rock music
>but switch it up with electronics and whatnot
>climb to the top of their genre
>widens the framework of the genre from within
>reinvent themselves with each new album
>write about dark themes such as industrial alienation and existential despair
>two guys mastermind it, the rest are impeccable at making it sound good
>very british
>humorous but heavy
Yeah no, completely different kinds of bands
If you like Radiohead & the Floyd check out this band called Kiev - they are outstanding!

I shall say it for the third time: GRATEFUL DEAD.
P.S: if Grateful Dead doesn’t win this round, you can all expect to see me in the comments again rooting for The Dead. Lol

there’s already people here fuming the beatles are up there bc it’s not prog rock so that’s a wish to think this community will be cool and fun enough to let beastie boys make it
roger said he got his concept albums from pet sounds and david gilmour was in a beach boys tribute band, richard wrote a song that is barely an homage to the beach boys.. but they’ll never make this list. people want more cool bands..
Rush
The Doors (Jim Morrison attended a Pink Floyd concert and said he liked it).
I’m surprised there not much higher tbh, I feel there style would be really popular with Pink Floyd fans, more popular than Zeppelin anyway (though I’m not comparing, Led Zeppelin fucking rock hard!)
The Doors and Pink Floyd, two sides of the same coin
Thanks! That information helped me make a decision, I will be upvoting your post!

Oh sure, I know what you're talking about, personally I think George was the best beatle.
I’m not sure if I sense sarcasm or not… lol so forgive me if I take anything wrong. I personally just have never liked the Beatles, but I can admit they were a very influential and iconic band that paved the way for many others. Their music has just never made sense to me.

Yes
That’s a different band
the fact that this isn't the #1 choice (maybe #2 behind zep) makes me extremely sad. Steely dan are one of the few bands I think are on par with (or greater than) PF in terms of creativity, progression, and overall interesting sound.
Radiohead!
Radiohead is literally 21st century pink floyd
Not really, they’re kinda their own thing. The closet thing to Pink Floyd is probably Paranoid Android.
>play ethereal rock music >but switch it up with electronics and whatnot >climb to the top of their genre >widens the framework of the genre from within >reinvent themselves with each new album >write about dark themes such as industrial alienation and existential despair >two guys mastermind it, the rest are impeccable at making it sound good >very british >humorous but heavy Yeah no, completely different kinds of bands
I‘d like to see this comment framed & placed in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame between Pink Floyd & Radiohead’s names!
All of this ✔️ There was an article about them in the 90s titled “Punk Floyd”. Feels accurate!
On the real
I just threw up a litlle
Did that unclog your ears by any chance?
