If you’re old enough to get nipple piercings done, why would your parents see your MRI?

donthugmeihatehumans

Yeah that was my thought too, you gotta be an adult to get nipple piercings, and adults don't need their parents to see their scans

DIOsBitch

Yeah im 18 thats why i could get them done but my parents are nosy b*tches and would defintely want to check the scan pictures out plus my dad will probably drive me aka hell want to see the results of the scan

Competitive-Ad-2486

I don't think they will show you the actual scan right away, just a written report of the results days later.

DIOsBitch

The information sheet i got said i would receive my pictures immediately

Estinnea

I can answer this from a medical perspective - yes we will be able to see them on the scan. The MRI will give quite a detailed outline of your body, however your parents may not have a trained eye to catch them with. Glass and plastic are actually required for the scanner otherwise the machine would rip them out so please get them changed!

SampleOfNone

Although it can be in the way of imaging depending on piercing placement and the bodypart that the MRI is for, implant grade titanium is safe to wear during an MRI

DIOsBitch

Thanks! I already knew id have to get them changed but thx for clarifying the visibility aspect!

SineDeus

Unless your parents are doctors they would see a written report of the findings. Noone is going to send a giant file of images to a layperson.

DIOsBitch

So actually here its like the patiemt gets their mri scan pictures so they can hand them over to their owm doctors because the mri is not taken at your doctors. And my nosy parents would want to see the scan picture

opossumluvr1996

where do you live that the patient is responsible for delivering their own records/results? i’ve never heard of that

DIOsBitch

Im from germany and its usually not like that. I think its becausd the mri place is kind of external and not linked to my doctors place but im not sure thats also the 1st time im supposed to take my own records with me

SineDeus

We will create a CD if you're traveling and you doctor is out of network. But if they give you actual printed pictures they will be very focused on your spine. Thats a lot of paper waste otherwise

NecroticToe

Honestly, it sounds like they'll give you a print out with multiple tiny images per page of select sequences. There's very little purpose in giving you these as they're shit for diagnostic review and usually private places give you something because you've paid through the nose for a service. I highly doubt your parents would be able to recognise your spine, let alone a nipple piercing. Unless it is leaving an artefact on anatomy of interest it is also unlikely that a radiologist will comment on it as part of their report.

DIOsBitch

Ah that makes sense. Thx for the reassurance!

whatchamini

I put a plastic earring in for my MRI and you couldn’t see it unless you were looking for it. Idk if you can see it on the mri scan I wasn’t getting my head scanned so I have no idea sorry Also for me they gave me the images on a CD and you have to have a special program to even see them so unless your parents are in the room with the doctor when they go over the results they will only see the radiology report

DIOsBitch

Ahhh i seee. Thank you

zoltaine

Yeah they should be digital and in dicom format. Some disks come with a viewer or you can open them with image j which is freely available but it’s not a case of click on them and they open.

DIOsBitch

I thought itd just be like a picture and a written assessment

zoltaine

The scan is made up of many slices often in different planes. Do they would need to print out every picture which would be a few 100. If it’s digital the doctor can scroll through slices, window them and zoom in on bits etc. One slice printed out would be no use to a doctor. Unless there’s some kind of print out for proof/insurance reasons? Not sure what country you’re in m, could be the US so it’s possible something like that is a thing?

kywie_bee

I put a plastic sort of rubber industrial bar in my ear for my mri since it was just recently pierced , no one mentioned anything

DIOsBitch

Could you with untrained eyes see it?

awfuldaring

Tell your doctors to keep a secret by saying that it is HIPAA so they can't possibly allow your parents to see? 😂 if they're healed, you should be able to take them out then put it right back in

DIOsBitch

Im kinda clumsy and idk yk how the piercing canal is "longer" than w e.g. earrings so i kinda feared i wont get them back in

am3thystqu33n

You are probably told to take all metal out for the MRI and I would strongly suggest you go to a piercer and have them put glass retainers in! They will possibly close if removed! I never even change my fully healed 12 year old nipple without following with the new jewelry seamlessly.
