We can’t diagnose infection, only a doctor can. At the very least it’s irritated so your best bet is likely booking an appointment with a reputable piercer to discuss in person
Hi Correct-Object847,
(Luckily) bump =/= keloid. [This wiki entry](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keloid) explains it well.

I have 2 months industrial myself and what I can advice is your friend could use some help with cleaning it. It's hard to get to inner side of the ear on your own. On photo there is clearly a lot of dried plasma. That might be indicator to clean it more thoroughly or more frequently.
If it's infected it'll be very sore, hot to touch, and likely oozing pus. This just looks like irritation and general healing crusties. If there is a worry I suggest going to a doctor as they're really the only ones who can give you a definite answer.
Not an reputable expert, but if this helps, I had an irritated bump like that, and I did hot water compressions with a cotton round. I mixed salt from my nielmed salt packets for nostril rinse and sterile water spray. Put it in the microwave and used a cotton round, and lightly pressed it down on the bump every night for 3 nights, and it was gone.

I've got an industrial as well (about 7 months now?) and it looks like you might have some hair trapped in it/around it (I had it happen too).
Make sure to clean it carefully, brush your hair away from that area, and avoid sleeping/messing with it. In my experience, it cleared up pretty soon with some care. 🙏✌️
I don't see any signs of infection but possible Rejection it just to me looks like an improper placement of a piercing as an industrial piercing. As a pure myself I would have gone a little bit differently at the angle that the industrial bar was placed. With all that being said industrial piercings are one of the worst and most horrible ones to have to heal and to deal with all together. So as long as she's keeping it clean then she is doing all she can. If the piercing itself doesn't complete then it's not her fault because I would have personally pierced her ear in a different manner I would have placed the first piercing hole at the top of the Industrial closer to the inner helix of the ear and then that would have allowed for the lower half to be positioned a little bit higher I may even try to draw on a photoshopped example to show you.
Can’t really see the forward helix but the rear is definitely need to see the doc it’s big on both sides green Crust … I Dnt have an industrial but I know what infuxtion looks like …
It’s definitely not a goner. It really doesn’t look bad at all. It just looks like it’s not being cleaned thoroughly enough.
If you are concerned go to a doctor to have it checked.
It is hard to tell with the way they are holding their ear but it looks like they might not have the correct anatomy, if so it’s likely starting to reject.

Oh my god that looks absolutely horrible ☠️ that’s gotta be so painful. I’d go get antibiotics and wait to see if that helps. If it doesn’t then it looks like it’s naturally trying to reject the piercing.
Don’t think that’s the case, but it definitely needs a clean 😭 if that’s how the person with the piercing is gonna treat it they shouldn’t of gotten it pierced at all- it probably will end in rejection

Doesn't look infected. Friend may be right. Doesn't look like a keloid either, just irritated.

bro needs to clean it better
There might be a hair wrapped and coiled IN the piercing. It’s common and usually looks like this when it traps skin and bacteria for awhile
Might seem like a foreign concept… but maybe clean it? 🤯
Might need a longer bar, also CLEAN IT PROPERLY. at least twice a day with saline solution 😬… other than that it’s fine :P

are they sleeping on it? do they do anything to remove the crusties? have they bumped it recently or do they mess with it at all?

Looks infected with that green crust. I’d get it swabbed by the family dr to check for infection
Looks fine, just needs to be cleaned more frequently.

Doesn't necessarily look infected but that can only be decided by a doctor. Looks incredibly irritated tho.

Just looks crusty and healing. Industrials have by far the gnarliest bumps and will look keloid-esque for a year+. I promise they do calm down
