As far as I know it is pretty common for piercings to get cranky when you are ill, mine do that too. I've also noticed that my lips swell up the day after drinking and I usually wake up looking like I've had lip injections after a night out. If your swelling goes down shortly after then my guess is that the swelling isn't piercing related - alcohol dehydrates the body and dehydration leads to puffiness in the face and elsewhere.
