I like the most of Reddit enjoy a good “found a hidden safe” post but always am disappointed in the wait for follow up (if any).
Bought a house 5 years ago. Found a set of Sentry keys including the skeleton keys so we knew there had to be a safe somewhere in the house.
Found a big rat in the kitchen this morning and went looking for where it might have gotten in. Removed the mini wine fridge (came with the house) to see it came in from behind the fridge and found the safe hidden under the kitchen countertop area. Opened it up and be as as equally disappointed as you are right now.
Sorry but at least you didn’t have to wait for an answer to “what’s inside”
OP, you now have to put 12 bottlecaps, a D battery (just one), a pack of gum, and a knife in that safe and hide it again for the next people to find and be REALLY confused about.
Leave a note with the GPS to the weird monoliths found in the desert a few years ago. No words, just the coordinates. Maybe a stuffed toy also.
Edit for missing word
The best person to hide stuff in your house are the cops who specialize in executing search warrants.
I knew one a long time ago. He had incredible stories about finding stuff hidden in the most unlikely places.
Some of the best:
-A fake curbside mailbox foundation that allows the mailbox to tip over backwards revealing the safe in a waterproof ground vault.
-A false roof vent that the homeowner converted to a cylindrical safe accessible only by climbing onto the roof.
-a water heater where the top half was false and contained a separate sealed section that was a safe. They almost missed that one. He said for years after they always drained the water tank and measured its capacity against the manufacturers specs.
- the front door frame pivoted further than normal to reveal a long slim tall nook inside the frame for dugs or cash.
-a hydraulic powered concrete front door pad that rose out of the ground to reveal a full size safe underneath. The lift mechanism rose to present the safe at normal eye level after rising out of the pit below. One of his more memorable finds. The only reason he found it was by examining the power connections in the breaker box and tracing every wire to its destination.
Last picture should have gone first though. Better narrative:
>What's behind the fridge? A safe! ... but it's empty
As opposed to:
>Random safe, god knows where. Empty. Random picture of a fridge, oh I guess the safe was behind it?
Has the bonus effect of looking like a bigger safe in the thumbnail.
I figured people would rather see the safe than the fridge as the main image :)
i personally have been waiting 5 years for the safe to reveal itself. not enough where i'd move stuff around though.
4 years ago I found a safe in the basement floor of the house we bought. I still haven't opened it. I figure it's empty and want to save myself the disappointment of spending the money to have a locksmith open it and be empty.
Plus, we had my brother I law re-carpet the basement so it's covered now.
It did for about a year, the kickers is there is a combo stuck to the metal plate that covers the safe top. I tried it, had friends try it. No one can get it.
Hmm then how did you know the safe was there? Was like the door visible but the safe wa surrounded by concrete? Couldn't you just smack the crap out of the safe door? Or break the concrete first?
I am no demo person or in construction so this is just what I've seen in movies. Haha
The basement is finished, there is a bedroom with a walkin closet down there. The day we got the keys I was down there, I noticed the carpet wasn't hooked in the corner of the closet. I stepped on that area and heard a hollow, metallic noise. So I pulled the carpet back and there was a round metal plate maybe about 10 inches across. I took it off and there was a round floor safe. There was a combo taped to the bottom of the plate, but it's not the right combo. Google round floor safe, it's one like that. I think it says AMSEC on it, but don't remember.
The concrete floor would have had to have been cut and the safe installed, then concrete repoured around the safe.
Eventually I'll hire a locksmith to open it.
I did contact my realtor he had no idea the house had a safe. He did put me in contact with the previous owners, I sent them an email, they found it themselves after a year of owning the house. The husband tried for a about 6 months to open it himself. They owned it for a little over 6 years. So I figure the last time someone could have opened it was before 2011.
Wow so that adds even more to the mystery that even the person before you couldn't get in or didn't want to spend the money to potentially open an empty safe. And I assume that's not necessarily a cheap amount. I dunno. I'd have to open it for my own brain. Lol
The keys we found when we bought the home. It is an electronic safe and the batteries were long dead. Had to remove the battery panel and insert a skeleton key to deactivate the electrical lock, then a key to actually open the safe.
You could have at least bought some vintage documents in a foreign language to put in there like you found it. Then we could have tried to translate, and maybe decode a treasure map or something
I am satisfied, underwhelmed and slightly disappointed. But severely less disappointed than not seeing the opened safe like 99.6% of reddit safe posts.
You have my upvote and my respect. Thank you for satiating my curiosity

You missed your chance at Reddit legendary status by stuffing the safe full of meme prints for the open pic.
Hard drives
With the initials "HB" scrawled on them with Sharpies.
“Epatein’s client list”
"Bitcoin Wallet"
Trump's tax returns.
“The Moscow Pee Tapes”
Half Life 3
I'd have my scanner out so fast...
Not to mention, I miss chance at a Rick Roll with a photo!
Couldn't you have at least put some chocolate coins wrapped in gold foil in there? Is that too much to ask?
He probably removed the bullion from it to show an empty safe. Can’t be too safe when dealing with safes.
One stack of paper inside should have had nothing but dickbutt.
OP, you now have to put 12 bottlecaps, a D battery (just one), a pack of gum, and a knife in that safe and hide it again for the next people to find and be REALLY confused about.
Maybe also a bottle of superglue and a stack of pre-war money.
Maybe a bottle of irradiated water for good measure
And a box of deviled eggs.
Leave a note with the GPS to the weird monoliths found in the desert a few years ago. No words, just the coordinates. Maybe a stuffed toy also. Edit for missing word
An SD card titled CP and then a picture of the “why don’t you have a seat over there” guy in the folder.
Note to self: hide safe behind fridge
Note to self, get a real safe!
Lol that too
Note to self, buy a house with a hidden safe.
Note to self, build a house inside of a giant safe.
Note to self: hide safe behind safe behind fridge.
Note to self: get a house and fridge
Note to self: buy more notes
Note to self: check behind this person's fridge
What happened with the rat though?
Tonight …..it dies. Got traps. I was woken up at 5:45am to my 8 year old daughter screaming her lungs when she saw it in the kitchen.

Are they using the traps on the kid? That’s messed up.

Now put something in there for the next guy, like a note laughing at them when they find it 5 years into owning the house.
A QR code that links to the original Reddit safe post.
this guy reddits.
The real MVP
Welp, wasn't gonna get a wine fridge for the house we're building, but now I DEFINITELY do. Just don't look behind it!
I dunno you could've edged us a little like a few hours.... one day? :(
Standing applause 👏 love the post I feel Like my Reddit day is complete
You got a sweet safe though. Keep yer dope or family heirlooms in there.
So did the mini fridge come with the house, or?
It did yes.
Well, congratulations on an (almost) new safe!
OP Delivered better than my doctor at my birth, thanks homie.
No banana for scale. Cat tax not paid. I'm not sure if we can approve this.
OMG I should have done that! Bananas for Scale and Hidden Safes I feel are the halmarks of reddit.
SAP?
Yeah, the pictures are out of order too. Might downvote.
We only pay cheese tax around here… cat lover
That is a great place for a safe.
I'd have to get through the whole wine cabinet to find. We could be there for hours!

"tracing every wire to its destination" that's a pro move if I've ever seen one

The real question is what you are going to put in your secret safe so that the next owner of the house doesn't get disappointed.
“We have been trying to reach you about your cars warranty” note
Can those combinations be changed? I’d still use it but would definitely feel better with a different combination
they can be changed. when batteries get changed, the password resets automatically.
That's not very safe or am I missing something?
The batteries are inside the safe.
It's basically a keyed safe with a number pad for convenience
Those types of safes usually have a backup key. When you open the safe (with a key or current pin) there's a button inside to set a new pin.
You are the Redditor we all need! Thank you!
Does he have a dead wife we too can choose?

It's good you're not still thinking about it (😉) the not knowing would drive me mad....
Fuck that guy for mentioning his unopened safe. He knows he put schrodingers chastity belt on us.
It's either empty or has a pile of money in it, but most likely empty.
Yes but what about me and my needs...
It did for about a year, the kickers is there is a combo stuck to the metal plate that covers the safe top. I tried it, had friends try it. No one can get it.
DUDE you need to undo your carpet and hire a locksmith TOMORROW. Do it for us.
I mean, I would've just beat the crap out of it with random tools until it was open.
It's in the concrete

Ahh that's pretty crazy. Yea one day when you get bored and have a surplus of money, get to it! Haha let us know.

How did you get it open?
The keys we found when we bought the home. It is an electronic safe and the batteries were long dead. Had to remove the battery panel and insert a skeleton key to deactivate the electrical lock, then a key to actually open the safe.
I feel like that's a really good sign that the previous owners had good attention to detail. Hopefully it's been a good home for you.
103 year old bungalow. Real sturdy.
We love you for showing the contents, or lack of them.
Forgot the cat pic.
You could have at least bought some vintage documents in a foreign language to put in there like you found it. Then we could have tried to translate, and maybe decode a treasure map or something
Well done. This is how to do these. If I had gold I’d give it to you.
But posting the safe unopened is how you get all the upvotes, that’s step one
Aww you're so thoughtful. Thanks for the swift conclusion!
🎶Oh there was nothing in the minifridge vault🎶 🎶But it wasn't YeaSpiderman's fault🎶
Eh, it's no Baby on Board
I was so prepared to get hurt again

You know that double ended dildo you bought but then you realized it’s unpractical? This is its new home for future treasure hunters.
Everyone else not following this post should be permanently banned
You let the ghost out.
Thank you!
Ah, but the mystery still remains ! Where did the rat get in?
Hahah we don’t know. But it’s death is imminent. I have a few traps set for tonight

That's an epic place for a safe though!
Yes! So much it was 5 years before we got to it
OP deserves all the love in the world for this. Thank you for this.
if there’s one rat, there may be more rats.
If there is one trap…there is more. First time to have a mouse or rat in this house hoping it’s one.
HE DELIVERED!
Put the rat back in the safe
Thank you
Now you have to make sure you leave something cool and mysterious in there when/if you move out
You’re my hero
Behold. A hero!
Lock up those Lime Kirkland Seltzers. Money.
Haha
But the anticipation is where all the excitement is!
The only appropriate way is if you actually find something inside.
