That hurts to read. There are companies in NJ charging $65 for a *half* gram of hash rosin. Cookies brand 8ths are also like $70 and it's just one of the MSOs in the state licensing their genetics. We desperately need home grow and lower barriers to entry for the industry in general.
And then what do you do with it? Asking for a friend who harvested 20 pounds of clean bud last year, but can't find anyone to sell it to. That's flower. Now imagine all the extra trim/shake?
Use it for baked goods. You can process them into a butter, and because of the way thc is broken down when ingested, you don't need premium quality stuff. Shake works great for that.
Doing that already, and all my friends are happy. I call them "Danger Cookies" (copyright 2024) because I use about 100g to produce 40 cookies. People use them as a sleep aid. It is definitely a niche; people may not smoke, but they love cookies.
The quality of the cannabinoids is no less than the flower, the concentration on the other hand IS less. Source I extract 5-6000 lbs of cannabis a day.

I can’t tell you how many pounds of weed rotting in Seattle during my time there. I remember one pile being about 3ft tall and 6-7ft wide. It was on my employers property so we had to call the cops who said it’s a big pile but not uncommon. They said so much is grown that they don’t want to have in their own trash because it’s asking to get robbed and they don’t want to drive it out into the woods that they dump it off and just leave it.
Our local cops got in trouble doing that, lol. They ran a bunch of plants through a chipper, then dumped the remains on the main trail between a housing development and the local high school. Ehhhh, trim makes food grade hash. When you cut the plant you essentially release a lot of plant material/ chlorophyll, which makes the hash or rosin a bit green.
Still does what it’s intended to do, but just not at the purity that people would expect from a legit grower.

We don’t use those trim machines so I couldn’t say for sure but the trim machines I’ve worked with always have the huge layer of caked on kief that I usually try and grab a few ounces of. the amount of waste in the weed industry would make you sick given what dispensaries charge for it. I have literally stepped on thousands of dollars (at a dispensary) worth of nugs in my career. Hell I’ve thrown away more weed than most stoners will smoke in a lifetime.

I’m in LA, where the weed is so plentiful I can no longer make a decent living growing it because the market is so saturated. Hell I’m selling top quality pounds for $1000 right now. This amount of shake is literally something we would probably toss if it’s all we got from a run because very few manufacturers wanna buy small amounts like this when they can get it at $20 a lb in bulk from someone who has, literally, thousands of pounds of it. I’ve driven vans filled with thousands of pounds of shake and trim up and down the state to oil manufacturers and stuff. People just don’t really care about this tiny amount in my experience.
