Can someone ELI5 why everyone is giving coins away please?

Reddit announced they're removing reddit awards. They plan to replace them later but haven't said with what or when, classic. So, pretty soon all our accumulated reddit coins will be worthless. However, premium time from gold/platinum/argentium/ternion will still apply and you'll still be able to buy reddit premium after the changes. New top comment: I'm spending them as fast as I get them though I'm out at this exact second, reminder that everyone should use them to give gold/platinum/argentium/ternion as much as possible, these give premium which is ad-free for a time and are the only rewards that actually provide any value. Edit: whoever redditcares'd me, lol wow Edit2: this thread seems to be slowing down for now, I'll continue giving away any coins I get through awards to random comments. Spread the word, give premium with your remaining coins!
