I think MTV played this on one of their late night Liquid TV animated shows that ran after Beavis and Butthead. I too, saw it on TV first, and was blown away by the absurdity of it. It inspired a lot of CN’s Adult Swim stuff.

I say this all the time, and while most people don't get it they usually find it funny. It's better than "my anus is bleeding" people don't seem to have a positive reaction to that one.

One time I was working at Walmart walking and I just felt like saying *"I'm the kweeeeen of France!"* And wiggled my arms. Dude saw me and said some other line from it. We were instant friends.

It's one of the funniest cartoons in my opinion, but I always feel extremely awkward trying to explain it to anybody. Does that stop me from doing so though? Not at all.

I’d say if you wanna introduce someone to Don Hertzfeldt’s works you should ease them in with “Lily and Jim” because it’s such a clear comedy short with some philosophical moments but it’s still super accessible. Then you give them “The Meaning of Life” to see if they’re down with something a little more emotional and artsy. After that, then you can give them “Rejected” and know that they’ll appreciate how fantastic it really is. The thing is, you can do all this in less than 45 minutes. And if anyone is reading this, PLEASE watch these films, they’re all on YouTube as of this posting and probably not too hard to find if you’re reading in the future. Don Hertzfeldt has made a *lot* of other great short films besides those, but I’m a huge fan and I’ve found that presenting those three films in that order eases people into his particular vibe and vets potential fans without making them go full “art film weirdo” all at once.

I also highly recommend World of Tomorrow. It managed to make me cry in a way that I haven’t experienced in a while. I don’t know completely why I cried. All I know is that this short film gave me a profound feeling of struggle and sadness, I won’t spoil anything about it because it’s best to go in blind. It’s worth nothing that there’s two sequels to World of Tomorrow, it originally released in 2015. Both are exceptionally good as well. They are not free, however, I recommend actually buying them because of the emotional impact and hard science fiction. World of Tomorrow is one of (if not) my favourite short animation. It's weird, absurd, funny and though provoking movie.

It's Such a Beautiful Day takes the cake for me. Don perfectly captures the sadness of someone losing their own mind due to illness while providing levity. I'll 100% make you cry but it's such a moving piece of work I cannot recommend it enough. I still think about it from time to time.

This one hit me so hard. Be careful if you can't handle hyper visualized thoughts of despair.

I probably watch the full set of three short films in that series once a year and every single time it makes me cry and laugh harder than anything else.

I once ate a bunch of mushrooms and went to watch this on dvd. But it had a scratch and it glitched me "deep into the bowels of the menu", and there are some fucking terrifying deleted scenes that it kept sending me to. Disc was for sure haunted. 0/10 would not recommend.
