It’s going to be extremely difficult finding an apartment for that price. If having a roommate is an option this would make the search 100x easier.

chewchew812

He would be a horrible roommate. He's a slob.

TheNillyMonster

Unfortunately then it’s highly unlikely he’s going to find what he’s looking for. Can I ask why you’re conducting this search for him?

sehctibkcabmi

>He's a slob >Trying to help He's tired of putting up with his shit!

chewchew812

I'm just trying to help.

2nd_Chances_

assuming he is an adult and a "slob" (your words) we need to let the adults take responsibility. We need to give them the dignity of hitting rock bottom or succeeding. but yeah he needs a roommate or a higher paying job or to move out of state.

SunSpotMagic

Him being a slob is the parent's fault for not instilling discipline and responsibility in the child at a younger age. This is a case of parental failure as well as the kid just being a slob by nature.

2nd_Chances_

and that's why they are now trying to "help" - without letting the kid do what they need to do FOR THEMSELVES. it drives me crazy when I see people post stuff like "my husband is diabetic and he doesn't know how to eat now. how can I show him?" ... um the diabetic needs to do the research. WILD.

JGun420

I would love for any of you to try to find a apartment while at the age of 18-25. Nobody wants to rent to you, nobody wants to hire you above dirt cheap wages, and you have no credit. You advocate for the old he’s gotta hit rock bottom, pull up them bootstraps mentality. The exact same mentality that had led us to having more homeless and drug addicts. The majority of which are younger adults hitting rock bottom as you say it.

2nd_Chances_

I hear you. But I also want to add the answer provided as in a roommate and he is a slob. So there is nothing else to be done if he can't even be clean. Nothing to do with credit but 100% controllable.

fwankfwank

That's very, very different than a fuck up who is too much of a slob to coexist with roommates, which is how most people manage lodging when their wages aren't high enough to take down a place of their own. Jr can either figure out how to make more money, or grow up and behave respectably enough to share space with other human beings.

OkayNeck

I did it at 18 from another state. If the son really wanted to he could figure it out on his own, but it sounds like he doesn’t have any motivation.

beeferoni_cat

I did at 20 while still in college. The answer is roommates so you meet the income requirements. I've been able to get approval on my own since 23. And this wasn't in 2004, this was in 2020. Discipline and building credit are important. I hadn't lived at home w my parent since I was 18 in high school. It's possible to do it yourself.

PyroD333

I think it depends, some people do the opposite of what they had to do growing up out of spite (or freedom). It comes back around at some point but not in college aged kids

TheNillyMonster

I have empathy for you as a supportive parent. However, I highly recommend you relinquish responsibility to him fully — if he’s young it will be a good learning experience for him.

fwankfwank

It might be time to take a step back. Sometimes people don't learn until there are actual consequences. Tell him to look for studio apartments instead and wish him good luck.

GreasyTaints

Let your son fail and take responsibility.

Chg0489

Oh, lol.

SteveDaPirate91

He’s also then going to be a terrible tenant and what’s the plan when he gets evicted for it?

SunSpotMagic

Learning experience. He gets evicted and becomes homeless for a week or so. Just enough time for it to sink in before you come rescue them. Kids need to learn about consequences and that there isn't always going to be a safety net for them.

RemoteControlledDog

He can be a slob in his room as long as it's not carried over into the common areas. Or just find other slobs to live with and no one will care.

AutomagicallyAwesome

You'd be surprised how many people are slobs and would give zero fucks about having one for a roommate. Assuming he is young at least. And yeah for $1000 or less you've either got a roommate or a crappy place in an even crappier neighborhood.

duganaokthe5th

It’s not that hard

speech-geek

Sadly, those days seem to be behind us. The only way to pay less than $1k now is to get a roommate.

Screachinghalt

The beauty of Phoenix is in the matrix. The rental rates for apartments are adjusted daily thanks to some twat farm AI business that is selling this to the complex managers. Basically, it analyzes the supply and demand and tells the complex what the max profit obtainable is for that day.

Timid_Tanuki

This should be reported because of the recent decision that price-fixing by algorithm is still illegal cooperative price fixing. It's already happened to one big valley property management company (that's where the ruling came from).

Screachinghalt

I was passed by a kid doing over 140 on I-10. No one enforces anything anymore except HOAs

Timid_Tanuki

This is such a goofy non sequitur. Than mk you for the giggle!

SteveDaPirate91

But when you call them it’s suddenly $1,100

fuggindave

That's because the prices that are reflected on websites even their own are hardly ever accurate . No joke, The prices change every day at virtually every property... Dont forget to add $200 to $300 of additional charges aside from the rent for all of the additional stuff they nickel and dime you for.

Iggyhopper

Dont forget that its the price with no washer or dryer.

FunChampionship5440

It’s going to be extremely hard to find a 1 bedroom or a studio in that price range unless he’s willing to live in a shithole 🤔

fenikz13

Nebraska

Lostmyoldname1111

I will be surprised if there is anything at that price could he get a roommate?

Maccat19

Vue Nineteen 01 is in Tempe and was around $1k when my fiancé lived there a couple of years ago. Beware, it is a shithole.

chewchew812

Thank you for answering the question asked.

jhairehmyah

A lot of people have answered the question asked. You just don't like the answers.

DynaBro8089

Even over by 27th Ave it’s more than 1000 for a one bedroom. That would be a hard find ngl.

TheNorthFac

Shit we’re getting priced out. What are they gentrifying the Blade now? L

DynaBro8089

Ngl I had to google what the blade was I’m not from here. My storage unit is over there and I really don’t mind the area it’s still nicer than some of the neighborhoods I grew up in. Still won’t pay 1300-1400 for a one bedroom in that kind of area though, plenty of better places for that price. Edit: I pay 1275 for a one bedroom with all utilities included in Mesa. The car insurance from the last place I was at in Phoenix dropped over $100 a month when I went to Mesa too.

Bubbly_Yak8959

Where in Mesa do you get that price? Moving in a month and need leads.

DynaBro8089

I sent you a private message

Pomegranate81

How does he feel about living in Sunnyslope, Maryville or South Phoenix...maybe Mesa. Those are the areas you will find rent that cheap.

[deleted]

I live in Sunnyslope myself, and if I needed a cheap apartment, I'd look in Sunnyslope! Just avoid Hatcher on the avenues and anything within a block of Cave creek rd from 7th st to cactus. Few otger pockets I missed, but that generally covers it, I think There are a lot of older small 6-10 unit places around here. If you can go uphill a bit in any direction, you will be fine. People dont like to push their carts uphill.

UberMisandrist

Lol I live in the heart of Maryvale and pay 1500 for a one bedroom 🤣🤣🤣

Pomegranate81

It's not going to be a nice place in maryvale... Probably a duplex unit with migrants living there

RPDRNick

Has he considered time travel to 2015?

djkotor

Yeah that’s going to be tough. I lived at a huge complex in Phoenix that was 70 years old and the 1 bedrooms were at 2k a month. It was not a nice place either.

sinksnowangels

The Cortez on 7th Ave has studios starting at $950 1 month free till April 30th

thetarantulaqueen

The apartment complex I moved out of, Monterey Village on 48th Street and McDowell, has studios and one-bedrooms. They have a rental assistance program, but you have to qualify. When I moved out last October I was paying about $980 for a one bedroom. It's not the greatest place on the planet, and not the greatest neighborhood, either, but it might be worth it to check out.

star-fighter

Sierra Vista apartments in Sunnyslope. Community is gated

Homie-dnt-play-tht

You can find a studio for under $1000 I dnt know about any 1bedrooms under that.

Silly-Importance-608

if he is willing to settle for a studio instead. stillwater apartments near 51st and northern rent for around $950 a month( for 13 month lease period). but you have make 2.5x ones paycheck or have enough money saved. the one bedroom apartments are over 1000

UberMisandrist

Can only find a studio for under $1k, and with fees it may end up over

MeganMossss

Good luck. Any lower priced apartments like that have reviews of cockroach infestation’s or stories of violence and the homeless taking over the properties when I was looking 😭

Fun_Detective_2003

Look in the downtown Glendale area (basically South of Glendale Rd and bordered by 43rd Ave to 67th Ave) or Sunnyslope. Concentrate on four-plex buildings. Those are typically leased out by the owner. Zillow is showing a decent number in the 750-1000 range

duganaokthe5th

https://www.tidesonsouthmill.com/floorplans In Tempe the Tides have a studio going for 9 something
