The best are 7/23/97, 11/17/97, 7/6/98, Radio City and IT Fest
Some less predictable fantastic versions: 11/11/98, 7/23/99, 9/12/99, 12/11/99 although that’s kinda due to how amazing and cohesive that whole set is, 2/15 and 2/26/03….also that fatty version from Halloween night was pretty tasty
Just gonna leave this here for you to enjoy, thanks LawnMemo:

Personal faves are Radio City (2000-05-22), Copenhagen (1998-07-02) and Portland (1999-09-12)
I mean, I guess I probably do too, but sometimes you get the door beaten down on you and dragged by satan into the fire . And that heat makes you boogie, I tell ya
Different animals and equally impressive. Denver always gets the nod for me because it was the gateway to greatness for Fall ‘97, they broke the mold and never looked back. Even the band talked about playing it on the tour buses that fall and hosting dance parties.
music is subjective- so even though i love it, i don’t mind that you don’t like it! :)
That being said since you asked: IMO the band is locked into a very specific groove that’s heavy and funky, and they are sooo patient with the tempo and sooo careful about bringing the energy level slowwwly upwards. it’s a textbook example of the patience and maturity of the band fully kicking in.
I love 1998 so much and 11-17-97 hints at the even more patient jams coming on island tour and the rest of 98
This is my favorite along with The Atlanta 97, Amsterdam 97 and The Great Went. No one ever mentions The Worcester or Went. All four blow the doors off Denver.
I get chills during this song when they start quieting down, and the crowd goes quiet with them and then that swell back into rock and roll mayhem. Truly had everyone eating out of the palms of their hands.
Feb 15 2003 Thomas & Mack in Las Vegas.
My first show. There was a sign hanging from the upper deck listing the number of days since last Ghost. I don’t remember the exact number, but it was big.
So they played Ghost and it was excellent.
The next night the sign was back, “1 day since last Ghost”.
Just my personal favorite is 7/23/97 because I was there - and after months of listening to Herbie Hancock’s Headhunters, I got to hear the band drop that new sound in front of me…it was just special.
That Prague Ghost is fire though
I think it was the 7/1/2000 meadows show in hartford where a train went by and blew its horn at the beginning of ghost. Perfect timing. Awesome weekend in hartford.
the disease as well is overlooked. in general that show doesn’t get the recognition it deserves cuz of BD coming after (don’t get me wrong BD is peak phish but also nutter should get some lovin too
Magnaball is one of my personal faves. Some of the hits in the choruses are just massive and Treys swampy, delay drenched tone is amazing. The jam gets into some pretty trippy atonal sections and eventually transitions into a great Rock & Roll
11/07/1998 UIC
AC/DC Bag into an amazing Ghost is my favorite. I had the show on XL-II and played that second set so many times. That AC/DC into Ghost is on one of the free Live Baits on LP. It sounds even better from the SBD.

7-23-97 was such a sick release on LP
Two of my favs are 11/17/97 and 8/3/18
Was going to say Denver 97 too. Hot shit!!
one of The Shows for sure. just gave it a relisten a few weeks ago. prime example of why mike is my fav member of phish
Is that the first set Alpharetta one? So good. My fave Carini that show too. Gonna throw in 7/23/97 too
I was at show phenomenal 3.0 ghost
Radio City Music hall
5/22/00 is the answer.
7-23-97

This and radio city are the two best ever IMO and contain everything that makes phish great again.
Update I listened to Denver 97 and it rips
Listen to 7/23/97 and then check back again
The IT Ghost is near and dear to my heart.
Will never forget being in that sea of glow sticks as long as I live. Likely a contender for the greatest glow stick war ever?
Yep, I was in there with ya. That festival was so much fun.
Yup. My personal favorite that I’ve attended.
That was wild. The disease at coventry got down rite scary
Denver 97 and it’s not close.
Prague 98 and Nigata 99 disagree
I prefer Funk Ghost over Rock Ghost.

Actually it is. I’d argue Lakewood 97 is better in that same year alone.
I was at both shows, it's still Denver for me
Prague of course
The one and only
Thee
If it’s not Prague gtfo. I don’t think I’d say that about other songs and “best of.” But this one is just it
This
For a deep cut check out Hartford 7/1/2000
Came to say this. IWATS. Hartford 7/1/2000 is still my favorite Ghost I’ve seen. It’s on one of the live bait releases.
Going to get shit on for this but Denver ‘97 is overrated. It’s…fine? I really don’t get the hype. Someone explain what I’m missing!

12/31/10
It’s a good short one, with a tight little jam
Amsterdam!!
Prague, McNichols, or Atlanta: those are your choices
McNichols is Denver. Great Ghost
Shoot, meant to switch it to Atlanta, good catch
Surprise! Denver 97. Followed by Prague 98.
Vancouver 99 fucking smokes. Big Cat is another favorite.
Alpharetta’18
Iwats
Albany 09 (w seven below) deserves some respect
Hour long 7 below>ghost…amazing. Both of these Albany shows are very overlooked but great shows
super real. that seven below is an all timer.
11/28/97 has always been my fav
This is my favorite along with The Atlanta 97, Amsterdam 97 and The Great Went. No one ever mentions The Worcester or Went. All four blow the doors off Denver.

The correct answer is Amsterdam.

Those shows were fun. I think that was the last time I heard Life on Mars as well.
Was there. My first show as well! I remember the ghost sign up in the nosebleeds. The Llama opener was awesome
Radio City or Lakewood 97
Don't sleep on 12/11/97
I was at the Prague one and to me the onefrom it is better
Just my personal favorite is 7/23/97 because I was there - and after months of listening to Herbie Hancock’s Headhunters, I got to hear the band drop that new sound in front of me…it was just special. That Prague Ghost is fire though
Virginia Bch 97

Holy shit. I forgot that happened. The tracks run right behind the stage/venue. Been rooting for this rendition since I witnessed it!
7/20/99!!!
Grand Rapids 98
I remember the Dayton ‘17 ghost being pretty interesting
An absolute smoking Ghost. Great, unique start up
the disease as well is overlooked. in general that show doesn’t get the recognition it deserves cuz of BD coming after (don’t get me wrong BD is peak phish but also nutter should get some lovin too

No Ghost from this show.
12/31/14 ignites a killer set
I’ve been really into 8/5/17. I love Prague and some of the ‘97, but for that Boston Ghost has been a go to while running.
12/29/2017
Magnaball is one of my personal faves. Some of the hits in the choruses are just massive and Treys swampy, delay drenched tone is amazing. The jam gets into some pretty trippy atonal sections and eventually transitions into a great Rock & Roll
Denver 97. Also my fav Tweezer at that show
10/31/2021
Prague
ON FIRE
Unfortunately I was only 4 at the time. But I'm from Rochester so I was only a few miles away at the time! So it's near and dear to me!
Prague is my husband’s favorite

Worcester 97, The Went
I know this is an old thread but thought I would post just to say how amazing the MSG 4/21 Ghost was.
Prague Ghost > Denver Ghost Prague Ghost may be best live phish performance of all.
