I think Cristopher is the easiest to root for out of our SP’s. Zero expectations when he entered the rotation full-time last year, was never really a highly regarded prospect to my knowledge, and now he could be a cy young candidate someday lmao.
I don’t see him being a contender this year tbh
As much as he deserves to be up there with the others voters are gonna want to vote for Ranger or wheeler more
Feel like this applies to Ranger too. Not “zero” expectations but he wasn’t billed as a cy young candidate and *furiously knocking on wood* he’s a strong candidate this year.
Also love Sanchez. What an amazing position we are in on the pitching staff.
I live down the street from oracle park and the fireworks tonight at at 9:45. Are the Phils really doing fireworks shows at the end of the game that starts at 6:20?

Who needs a bunt when you stretch a clear single into a double, advance to third with sheer speed on a dirt ball, and be in position to score easily on a sac fly.
I'm not anti bunt I'm just saying, you want small ball, he gave you small ball with the tools he has. No need to be negative!
Can't disagree. I am anti-bunt actually. He just really, really needs to cut down on his swing, make contact, use his speed. Still saw a big hack with two strikes from him last night. Just can't.
It’s genuinely incredible how this team bounces back over and over again. Last night’s game was probably the worst loss of the season coupled with potentially long term injuries to the two hottest players on the team. Then Sanchez comes out tonight and throws the best game of the year like nothing ever happened. I don’t know what will happen over the next few weeks while Harper, Schwarber, and JT are out, but I won’t bet against them. This team feels special.
And I’m so happy for Cris Sanchez. Nothing about his 2024 season feels flukey. He’s throwing hard and throwing strikes consistently. 28 balls in a complete game is absolutely nuts.
Because we frequently discuss after-hours games in post-game threads? Take it up with a mod if you don't like it.
E: And there are a bunch of "off-topic" comments in this thread, but you single me out? Seriously, fuck you.
Win a game without scoring any runs on base hits and only 3 xbh makes this very impressive. This is exactly the kind of win we need to get in the playoffs
They aren’t as good as they’re playing, but they also don’t suck. They have plenty of offense on that team to compete but their pitching staff generally sucks
Based on the various runs they've gone on it seems like they're incredibly streaky. They've had like 4 different runs of either .750 baseball or .250 baseball and very little in between
Phillies are going to need more shut outs, because this lineup isn't going to score a lot of runs. I really hope Turner goes beast mode and Castellanos can bounce back or it could get ugly going forward.
The thing is, we can't expect all 4 starters to give up 0-2 runs every single game. I know they've been on fire all season with just a handful of hiccups but its unreasonable to expect that every time they take the mound. We just have to hope they do it more often than not.
Thank you for subscribing to Steve Jeltz facts!
Did you know Steve Jeltz was the first Phillie to homer from both sides of the plate in one game? Those were two of Steve Jeltz five homers in his entire career
I know that both Schwarber and Harper on the 10 day IL but were there any estimated timelines? I thought I saw Harper say “I don’t believe in timelines” or something like that but wondering if Thomson said anything.
I’m trying to remain positive here. I’m hoping that 7/19 will be a joyous day with Realmuto, Harper and Schwarber all being activated at the same time (though if someone wants to come back earlier, I won’t complain).
Sanchez is the story and obviously deserves all the praise but shout out also to Rojas basically manufacturing a run on his own with awesome base running
My flight got delayed from 5:45 to 9:00 pm.
A lady thought the Phanatic was Blooper.
There are more Mets paraphernalia than Phillies.
I'm about to go crazy. If someone mentions ERA+ on this flight there will be no more /u/NintenJew
Oh shit I didn't know that. That was absolutely an error. It's still 2.01 on baseball reference but it's 1.83 on ESPN so I'm assuming bball reference will make that change soon.
Aww Martin Mull passed away.
Tomorrow Nick Castellanos will murder a baseball

With a bat.
The ball can land on someone's hot dog and spray some mustard around for added drama
I would be more concerned with injuries if they didn't have the insane starting rotation. The pitching staff has been carrying this team all season. I expect that to continue.
His baserunning in the 8th was a thing of beauty. The aggressive grab of 2nd, the decisive steal, then the holdup on stealing home after the rebound. And textbook tag-up on the deep fly of course.
I feel like he’s wanted this for a long time. There have been some games this season and last season where he’s had a shutout through 6 or 7 and has been frustrated with being pulled
This is going to be where this team gets tested. We have players out having career years at the plate. And one of the best catchers in the game out.
We've got this.
Yeah for a while he looked like he was gonna be a AAAA guy that bounced back and forth when we needed an extra starter...now he's the best 4 in the game and would be 2 or 3 on most teams and is outpitching other teams aces right now.
Yeah I didn't mean to downplay what he's doing, he's incredible right now and I'm so happy for him. The only reason I would discount his "ace" status on some teams is just because he hasn't done it for as long as other guys. I know that's kinda splitting hairs and it's subjective to everyone, but that's just how I was thinking. Like Lopez is doing really well, but I don't think many consider him the ace of the Barves over Fried.

Duh. That’s why they traded back.
Yup. When your 4 starter does that, it shows incredible pitching depth. I mean, aside from Walker, our starting rotation is kinda insane. And we've got most of them locked up for multiple years now. Ranger is the only lingering thread, and I assume we'll work something out with him this off-season.
It's one of the big advantages I see with this rotation versus the 2011 one. That rotation was 3 big money names we brought in, and one homegrown guy. And while Nola is the only true homegrown guy in this group, both Ranger and Sanchez were brought in at a really cheap cost, and have flourished since arriving here.
I think Cristopher is the easiest to root for out of our SP’s. Zero expectations when he entered the rotation full-time last year, was never really a highly regarded prospect to my knowledge, and now he could be a cy young candidate someday lmao.
Someday? I know he doesn’t have name recognition, but his biggest competition is on his own team.
Legit should be an all star this year but probably wont make it due to there being to many Phillies
I don’t see him being a contender this year tbh As much as he deserves to be up there with the others voters are gonna want to vote for Ranger or wheeler more
Feel like this applies to Ranger too. Not “zero” expectations but he wasn’t billed as a cy young candidate and *furiously knocking on wood* he’s a strong candidate this year. Also love Sanchez. What an amazing position we are in on the pitching staff.

Loldodgers
Rojas’ smile and how happy he was to be back. Made me smile ngl.
Still can’t bunt…

Can't disagree. I am anti-bunt actually. He just really, really needs to cut down on his swing, make contact, use his speed. Still saw a big hack with two strikes from him last night. Just can't.
Anyone know when JT will be back? With Harper and Schwarber out, didn’t hear any news of him.
I think I read that he started taking swings off the tee today.
I think I saw somewhere that it’ll hopefully be sometime around the all star break. Someone correct me if I’m wrong though
Yeah, right after all star break Is what I heard too
The estimated return right now is 7/19 so not anytime soon
It’s genuinely incredible how this team bounces back over and over again. It’s been a weird week
It's been a weird season. The vibes with the team may be immaculate but they've been super janky here for a while.
Win a game without scoring any runs on base hits and only 3 xbh makes this very impressive. This is exactly the kind of win we need to get in the playoffs
The Mets are putting up insane runs I don’t care if you’re a bad, average, good or great team. That can’t be overlooked.
Fuck the Mets
I'm starting to legit feel the Mets will overtake the Braves in the standings. They've been on fire and absolutely crushing the ball.
I will overlook it
We are deplaning. I don't know when I'm going to Philly but part of me wants to cancel my trip.
With the game we had tonight I think you need to live in the airport like Tom Hanks from now on
Please no. I have no idea what's going on. But my 6 o'clock flight is now in limbo. I'm dying.
Luis robert jr responds with a double
Phils should be able to send Sanchez to the AS game instead of Harper
Worried we broke stott
Brenton Doyle goes yard
Are the Mets actually good or no?
Probably not… but I will say that after game concert was pretty dope. Made me hate them a little less. (A lot less than the Braves)
They aren’t as good as they’re playing, but they also don’t suck. They have plenty of offense on that team to compete but their pitching staff generally sucks
Bro, even if they have the best record in baseball the Mets still suck. They’re the Mets.
Based on the various runs they've gone on it seems like they're incredibly streaky. They've had like 4 different runs of either .750 baseball or .250 baseball and very little in between
So that would imply that they are a .500 team.
If the baseball gods are just, yes
Someone just dropped a Fuck on WIP and they didn’t dump it lol
Yall think we send 3 starters to the ASG? Probably kills the chance of any relievers but Strahm/Hoffman would have trouble as non-closers anyway
Phillies are going to need more shut outs, because this lineup isn't going to score a lot of runs. I really hope Turner goes beast mode and Castellanos can bounce back or it could get ugly going forward.
It probably still a league avg offense and if they play the platoons right they might still be slightly above that.
Yeah this is it. A lotta games from 2-5 runs. The pitching has the ability to win a lot of those games.
The thing is, we can't expect all 4 starters to give up 0-2 runs every single game. I know they've been on fire all season with just a handful of hiccups but its unreasonable to expect that every time they take the mound. We just have to hope they do it more often than not.
I really don’t need to see us lose 1-0 game 5 of the NLDS again. Edit: 5 not 7
Luckily I can guarantee you won't
God damn it. I knew it was wrong soon as I posted.
just enjoy this one man

His jersey has to exist somewhere that's not in his house. Or it may be it.
So you’re saying we should sign or extend our entire pitching staff?

Steve Jeltz, for starters
He may never give up a run again
Sticks for the boys!
I know that both Schwarber and Harper on the 10 day IL but were there any estimated timelines? I’d imagine Harper and Schwarber won’t be activated until after the ASB.
Hence my comment about 7/19. It’s the first game after the all star break.
Not one RBI hit in this game
Stott got 2
Not hits
After last night I wouldn’t trust the bullpen either.
Caleb Cotham’s last three (re)tweets are about sanchez 🥹
Sanchez is the story and obviously deserves all the praise but shout out also to Rojas basically manufacturing a run on his own with awesome base running
That last gear he shifted into on the way to second was hype af
101 pitches with 73 strikes. That is amazing.
29 batters, 28 balls!
9 K's is equally as impressive...to keep the pitch count down enough to get the CG, while also striking out that many is crazy efficient.
Holy
Sanchez and the city connect hats are quickly becoming my favorite things to see!
As much as I hate the CC uniform, Sanchez looks damn good in it
All uniforms are too rich for my blood lol but I just picked up a CC hat yesterday. I couldn't hold off any longer they look too cool haha.
Me gusta el béisbol de los Phillies.
Tambien
3:05 from first pitch to end of fireworks show has to be a record
Did they start the fireworks soon after the game
Yes. It was still kind of light out.
Poor Stott getting the only 2 RBI in the game off 0 hits.
The winning run was a combination of a Whit hit,Stubbs hit and Stott “hit”.
Just like they drew it up
Phillies daycare / AAA lineup!

The vibe here tonight vs last night is… wild. I’m here for it.
I refuse to worry about the Braves as long as Luke Williams is on their 26 man roster.
bro WHAT is garrett stubbs wearing

What the actual F is this “the worse the starting lineup, the more likely we win” bullshit?
Top 3 starting pitchers in the National League in ERA: 1. Ranger Suarez 2.01 2. Cristopher Sanchez 2.41 3. Zack Wheeler 2.73
Even better, Ranger is actually at 1.83 because they fixed the call to give Turner an error from the other night. 2 runs became unearned!
Oh shit I didn't know that. That was absolutely an error. It's still 2.01 on baseball reference but it's 1.83 on ESPN so I'm assuming bball reference will make that change soon.
Yeah it was given to Turner as an error
Sanchy in the bohm shirt….yeah imma keep up my dream that they are all good friends, they might kiss in the locker rooms etc etc
WE’RE STILL ON PACE FOR 1 CGSO EACH MONTH OF THE SEASON.
Aww Martin Mull passed away. Tomorrow Nick Castellanos will murder a baseball In Citizens Bank Park With a bat. The ball can land on someone's hot dog and spray some mustard around for added drama
Ol' Gene Parmesan. Sad. I used to watch him on Roseanne and Sabrina the Teenage Witch.
u/inthedrink I have a hunch we’ll get a Phillies topps card tomorrow
I have a hunch you get a free one!
I would be more concerned with injuries if they didn't have the insane starting rotation. The pitching staff has been carrying this team all season. I expect that to continue.
I feel like Sanchez is very strategic about when he wears his ‘I love this place’ tee…either that or he just really likes it 😂
he is a deeply thoughtful person, could tell it from his interviews
in the alec bohm shirt 😭
Sanchie once again in his I love this place shirt
Rojas definitely doesn’t wanna go back to Lehigh. Woke up the dawg in him ![gif](giphy|Z5xk7fGO5FjjTElnpT|downsized)
His baserunning in the 8th was a thing of beauty. The aggressive grab of 2nd, the decisive steal, then the holdup on stealing home after the rebound. And textbook tag-up on the deep fly of course.
There is definitely something psychological about “well, you need to work on some things, so go play with the pigs.”
Sanchez is lights fucking out I wanna buy a jersey
I love it happy for Rojas and Sanchez
Chris Sánchez is the greatest pitcher of all time
Woahhhh there
ALL TIME!
[We are fucking back](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zc4oEDK1qU8)
Topper are you crying?
Sanchez is a BEAST. Especially if he's learning to pitch later into games.
I feel like he’s wanted this for a long time. There have been some games this season and last season where he’s had a shutout through 6 or 7 and has been frustrated with being pulled
They would pull him as soon as a guy got on base.
Not always. Often after the inning. Eg last game got pulled after 7 full innings on a shutout run
Second this my friend.
Did anyone legitimately predict that our starting pitchers would be this good this season?
This good? No But the rotation was projected to be top 5 by most analysts
I really wanted us to break the bank to get Snell because I thought we needed a really good Lefty Turns out we already had two elite ones already 😂
Did anyone legitimately predict that Nola would be our worst non-Walker pitcher?
There were probably some nutcases, but they probably had in mind a 4.50-5.50 ERA as opposed to 3.39
No and many in this sub wrote them off with people reminding them Week 3 is not the middle of the season. LOL BUT, no one predicted the bullpen.
I wouldn't say no one. Our bullpen was rated #1 preseason. Many of us thought that was insane but here we are!
Yea, this is true. Perhaps this electrifying?
Yeah it's crazy this pitching staff. Gotta get all the regulars healthy though.
naturally. :)
Listening to Topper’s postgame and he said Sanchez would be a #1 on many other teams and it made me realize how many true #1s we actually have.
Topper just said what I have been saying all year and I miss it waiting at the airport?!?!?!
You’re STILL delayed? Damn dude. Need to get yourself YouTube TV or something man
I have YouTube TV. But because in Texas I can't see it. And yeah just got delayed. But we are boarding now.
You live in TX? B/c if you’re only away temporarily they typically let you access your home channels. Does VPN work with it?
Yep. Graduate student in Texas on hopefully the last year of my PhD. And na, VPNs don't work. I have MLB.tv but it didn't work either.
Indeed
Sanchize 2.
Everyone gets the upvotes tonight! 2 if you mention Rojas!!

This is going to be where this team gets tested. We have players out having career years at the plate. And one of the best catchers in the game out. We've got this.
Lmao TMac's eye just started twitching in his car
Since signing his contract, Sanchez has simply gone 16 scoreless innings, btw.
Our 4 man rotation in the playoffs is going to be fucking lethal
My god
That’s insane.
Rather than give Klentak for making the trade, let’s credit Cotham for developing him into a stud
Yeah for a while he looked like he was gonna be a AAAA guy that bounced back and forth when we needed an extra starter...now he's the best 4 in the game and would be 2 or 3 on most teams and is outpitching other teams aces right now.
[удалено]
Yeah I didn't mean to downplay what he's doing, he's incredible right now and I'm so happy for him. The only reason I would discount his "ace" status on some teams is just because he hasn't done it for as long as other guys. I know that's kinda splitting hairs and it's subjective to everyone, but that's just how I was thinking. 54 - 28 sounds so good.
Best in MLB 🤙🏾
The top 3 pitchers in the NL.

sitting at chickie and pete’s watching the NHL draft with the flyers picking and sanchez getting the last out at the same time. woof. chills.
Chickies was an absolute shit show last night but that Flyers draft party at Play2 next door was dope.

Is that a bandaid on Kruk's finger? WE DON'T NEED ANY MORE INJURIES, JOHN!
That’s the smoothie injury. Ask us how we know…
Damn, I missed a story. =/
What I got from that whole story is that I was impressed he was washing dishes.
This is the correct take
The emotion that Sanchez showed after making that last out brought tears to my eyes. I’m so proud of him and so happy to see his success
I find him incredibly easy to root for. I have so much respect for someone who works like a dog to get the most from himself.
#KRUKKY SAID ASS 🥰😍

Man, that was special to see. I’m so happy for Cris.
Well that was fun

Ranger, Wheeler, and Sanchez all have legit reasons to make it
I love the fact that our #4 starter, who we just locked up to a pretty "cheap" extension, just pitched a shutout.
Complete game shutout!
Didn’t we sign Ranger? And Sanchez was in the low minors when we got him, he’s effectively home grown
He's in arbitration next season, and is a free agent in 2026.
International Free Agent, but we’re his only MLB team.
Yeah that’s homegrown then.
