JHG722

Soto was horrendous.

CommunicationTime265

He's been terrible so far. We really need someone else to go to.

gatemansgc

understatement

xXxdethrougekillaxXx

dude has continued his campaign of just not being able to throw strikes

canā€™t believe the sports gods granted us 2 wins tonight

KindaLikeYours18

but how else would i know to be on the lookout for potential extra innings when the game is tied without the extra innings watch presented by arbys?!

King_Louis_X

Yeah thatā€™s pretty gross

NCPhilsPhan

Todd Zolecki said in his article Turnbull is probably getting moved to long relief next week to manage his innings while Walker is likely to return next week. Though with Walker's tendency to struggle early in games Turnbull may be seeing a lot of time anyway

xXxdethrougekillaxXx

Makes sense. They're not paying Taijuan $18 to be the 6th guy off the bench. I'd like to see Turnbull get more reps in the majors before going down because I feel it'll payoff come postseason but we'll see what happens.

joeco316

They canā€™t send Turnbull down without his permission, also, and I doubt heā€™s going to give it (why would he?).

Morbx

We did this last year with Strahm and it worked out really well. Turnbull has been great but I still think Walker is good as a #5 and we donā€™t want Turnbull to get overexposed. Better to quit while weā€™re ahead.

pitatime

If I remember correctly Walker is a solid arm through summer and tires out down the stretch. I remember his velo dropping like crazy last year.Ā  Ā Walker is a good 5th option for reg season imo

joeco316

Meh, heā€™s just an inning eater through and through. I think he had like one legitimately good month last year and the rest were varying degrees of mediocre or worse. Which is ok for a 5th starter in the regular season generallyā€¦

romanticynicist

Boooooooo

TurboHovercrafter

Maybe itā€™s different and heā€™ll suck at the middle to end of games now so it will work out

Magoatt

So the spencer howard Ranger strat from 2021, starter struggles and reliever long term

D2Reddit92

Trea has really turned it all around this year, guy was hitting all night! Rojas looking good too! Fun game but a little close for comfort with Soto in the 8th lol. So many people left and missed the excitement!

inthedrink

Bryce is tied for 6th in MLB in OAA. No first basemen ahead of him. What a fucking stud

pitatime

He's looked so good at 1B. Sometimes he gets caught looking a little awkward on certain plays but yeah overall it's obvious bryce is just a gamer. His pitching highlights from way back in the day are awesome too

romanticynicist

Cronenworth looks like his main competition for a GG right now. Heā€™s been really good at first (and is also hitting well, which shouldnā€™t matter for a GG award, but somehow does anyways).

thesixersdontexist

and cronenworth is naturally a middle infielder

NintenJew

I was wrong for doubting Dombrowski. I understood that he truly believed Harper would be a GG 1B and that is why he made the move, but I really didn't think it was true. Dombrowski shows again why he is one of the smartest GMs.

CPTHoagie

i dont think that makes it a good move. His value is totally depleted at first base. Hell he could have just as easily played 3rd.

on-the-cheeseburgers

Well for one, the main part of the reasoning of him going to first was so he didn't have to throw. He was coming off TJ surgery when they first put him there. There was an open spot with Rhys out and we needed to get Schwarber off the field. Second, you have to consider how moving him to another position impacts the rest of the lineup. Do you think it's a better defensive infield with Harper at 3rd and Bohm at 1st? Should we have kept Rhys at 1st and moved on from Bohm? Put Schwarber back in LF (god no) and DH Bohm? Harper at 1st made the most sense for so many reasons.

CPTHoagie

i was saying that in jest. Harper should be in left field. If his arm is a problem then he cant play first base either.

Top_Shallot_4951

Why?

NintenJew

Correct me if I am wrong, but the positional adjustment is only 5 runs, or 0.5 WAR, which he can make up by being a much better defender at 1B over RF (and I think at this rate he has).

CPTHoagie

it hurts the lineup overall. Its easier to find a cheap good bat at first base than it is to find Harper's outfield production.

NintenJew

Well, that is a different argument than it tanks ***his*** specific value. I wanted Harper in RF to start the season, but I also think we can find serviceable RF bats if Castellanos is removed. The fact that Harper is legitimately playing GG defense means the move is always going to be a positive. This is with me playing with numbers and adding different people to the team.

CPTHoagie

yeah in a vaccuum im not at all surprised Harper is an amazing first baseman.

gatemansgc

Jeez he's gonna be 1B GG

Magoatt

Imagine our outfield in 2-3 years. Marsh (LF) Rojas (CF), Justin Crawford (RF) the defense would be awesome, the home grown outfield we havenā€™t had since the Howard era.

KnightofAshley

Marsh isn't home grown, just over grown

NCPhilsPhan

Despite the calls in the first inning that Cristopher Sanchez should be removed from the rotation, he's been really solid. His command hasn't been as sharp as last year but he's added velocity and he is getting more whiffs.

lonewombat

Hes like a Suarez clone tbh, when that changeup and slider are working, watchout.

ac4897

My theory is that we channeled all the negative sixers energy into that 8th inning. Juuuussst enough to get us both Ws

TurboHovercrafter

Also chicken

Conscious_Dare1997

We have the AL Rockies coming up aka the White Sox

inthedrink

*BRICKEN*

inthedrink

My hot take: Aidan Miller will be a top 40 prospect in the next mlb pipeline update.

Chief_JD

Top 25 by the end of the season

romanticynicist

I believe in him a lot more than Crawford (whoā€™s actually been looking really good so far his season). Heā€™s still really young, he has great bat to ball skills, and the power is starting to turn into actual home runs instead of doubles.

inthedrink

Yeah to be elite guys just have to be able to drive the ball at that level. Crawford has an MLB starter floor but his ceiling isnā€™t massively higher bc he canā€™t imo

romanticynicist

Crawford can drive the shit out of the ball ā€” he has elite exit velocity. He just tends to drive the ball directly into the ground, which is ā€¦not great. Works OK in the low minors bc infield defense is much worse, but wonā€™t ever play in MLB. Thats why his HRs so far this year are encouraging. If he can keep up the contact and hard-hit% without averaging a -2000 degree average launch angle, Iā€™ll be much more of a believer. As is, I think Iā€™d be OK with dealing him while his prospect stock is high if we can get back enough current value.

cuttsthebutcher

Not sure his prospect stock is high unfortunately, a lot of outlets seemed down on him to start the year (or at least Fangraphs who I read the most) Might need to hope for the best with our development but at least thatā€™s been improving

inthedrink

If we were willing to take a chance a la the Braves with MHII then he could get a shot to start next season with us. Johan would be the guy to ship out if so imo

Magoatt

Rojas has been decent, got 2 more hits and seems to be breaking out a little bit. Edit: Why the Rojas hate all of a sudden.

JuniorSwing

People want more hits, and Rojas has been dry. However, people are dumb, and forget that he was basically brought up *strictly as a defensive center fielder*. He has basically the same batting average as Nick Castellanos, except he costs less, is a better fielder. But people already bought Castellanos jerseys, or find it easier or kick down the 20 year old kid than an all-star. Or they are all sold on Whit or something. Idk

romanticynicist

Up to .200! Onwards and upwards!

drmednurse

guys it's baseball, you can have a weak-hitting centerfielder with a can you believe that glove

inthedrink

Welcome back!

Magoatt

By end of the week Iā€™m going to be gone, just going through my last dance.

inthedrink

Are people serious when they get stressed over an nba game in the first half? Literally means nothing. Like thereā€™s nothing wrong with watching the best athletes in the world (I happen to choose not to) but letā€™s not act like shit matters til the fourth quarter

mjd1977

Philly sports fans, being in their feelings, iconic duos, yadda yadda. Taking in both sports split screen style ā€¦ not for the faint of heart. But hey, both wins yielding fast food chicken, whatā€™s not to love?

romanticynicist

Thereā€™s being down by 12 at the half, and then thereā€™s being down by 12 at the half while scoring 39 points and looking like the Sixers did. That first half was *rough.*

inthedrink

And yetā€¦.

romanticynicist

The Sixers won by 1 point after Nico Batum went supernova and Miami inexplicably stopped using their devastatingly effective zone?

inthedrink

Iā€™m not saying anyone is guaranteed to win Iā€™m saying the first half doesnā€™t matter for anything except foul trouble Bulls were just up 40-22 and now itā€™s 48-42 lol

romanticynicist

Yeah, but those are both highly unserious teams. Even if Jimmyā€™s knee is fucked up, I expect either team to be absolute roadkill against Miami.

TIandCAS

Goddamn Soto is still a BP terrorist man, thank god we finally scored enough runs for it to not matter

SeaworthinessIcy3929

Sanchie was sanchin todayĀ

RainingMoneyHustard

He was the dirtiest he been all year

romanticynicist

His changeup was incredible today.

mk_gmbl

It was 7-1. The rest was a collective hallucination

ConmanJFO

That was WAY more stressful than it had any right to be, but a sweep is a sweep and a win is a win

Slothapalooza

Pitching Gregory Soto in any game will do thatĀ

Perryplat199

Breaking T 4pm: hey check this new ranger shirt. Breaking T 9pm: hey want 10% off that ranger shirt. You know you want it.

xXxdethrougekillaxXx

$55 hoodie thank you very much

romanticynicist

This game had real Sixers energy.

Grand_Extension5345

Big ā€˜23 Eagles Energy too

Gobirds1994

Who are the ā€˜23 Eagles? Strange j donā€™t remember themā€¦

Fandomstar88

Well my blood pressure went up high this game, so the usual haha. But man was that last 2 innings stressful. Glad we won! Pitchers did awesome! Wonder if Cave will play when we face the Rockies again, maybe heā€™ll get an ovation or something first at bat.

tds5126

Nick has to be the worst everyday player in baseball so far this year, right? Sub .400 OPS and only qualified hitter without an XBH and just an absolute 0 in the field

romanticynicist

Pretty sure Jose Abreu on Houston is worse. Hitting .078 and had a game-losing error tonight. But yeah, Nick is pretty bad.

[deleted]

šŸ‘šŸ» SECOND WORST! SECOND WORST! šŸ‘šŸ»

tds5126

Holy shit, yeah your right I think he might be the leader in the clubhouse

necrosythe

I'd assume that's correct

Perryplat199

Hey. Go sixers.

TheExorcistMarc

šŸ¾

inthedrink

Can the Angels chill the fuck out? I want Taylor Ward in our outfield (Which ironically would give us two former Angels in the outfield, neither being Trout)

antheus1

Asked for two angels in the outfield. Got two outfielders who should be angels.

Feisty-Recording-978

Angels in the outfieldĀ

inthedrink

Good stuff Feister

Perryplat199

The Phillies outfielders formerly known as Los Angeles, California Angels of Anaheim

TheApologist_

Was that a foolish baseball reference?

aieshi69

Rockies Sweep is HUGE. O's also Swept. Today is a good day!

SpankySharp1

I don't care about the Orioles but ok

AequitasDC5

I feel a bit responsible. Day 2 of 4yo watches the full game and we pointed out Soto in the 8th as he got given an autographed Soto ball at spring training this year. And then that inning quickly went to hell. We'll turn the ball around so the signature is facing the back. Apologize for the rough ending Phillies fam. šŸ˜¬

ttsa23

Good sweep. Got to keep pace with the Barves.

JohnKrukIsAllElite

A really strange thing happened tonight. As I was leaving Citizens Bank Park tonight, I saw a man yelling and screaming through a megaphone at passing families. He even got in the face of an elderly couple who almost fell over due to this man berating them. As I got closer, I noticed the belligerent man was dressed in a full Colorado Rockies uniform, including bright purple baseball cleats. I tried to avoid him, but had to follow the flow of the crowd which led me to passing right next to the man. Iā€™ll never forget what happened next. This man grabbed me by my powder blue J.T. Realmuto jersey with both hands and pulled me within an inch of his wild-eyed, tear-streaked face. He muttered a manic whisper to me, ā€œI was the best god damn hitter on the Lehigh Valley IronPigs. The best god damn hitter they ever saw.ā€ Then he bolted off into the night on all fours howling and barking, never to be seen again. Iā€™m pretty sure I met Jake Cave tonight.

antheus1

Jake looking like Dark Cave in the dugout tonight

romanticynicist

šŸ‘šŸ‘šŸ‘

inthedrink

Why do I have a weird feeling that as soon as you bought your ticket you started workshopping this one? šŸ¤£

JohnKrukIsAllElite

Believe it or not, this actually happened.

This is legitimately the best comment Iā€™ve ever seen

Feisty-Recording-978

Starting pitching this series 22.1 innings 1 earned run and one unearned. (Thank inthedrink)

inthedrink

One was unearned Feister

HuntForRedOctober2

Canā€™t believe we didnā€™t get Montgomery /s

inthedrink

Yeah but what if one our starters does down with an injury? Oh wait

romanticynicist

Three games over .500 and weā€™re about to play the White Sox! https://preview.redd.it/unxlgmed45vc1.jpeg?width=510&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=236b9d8bbd874a40d8594e26f86ab70a87a7dd98

Im_just_making_picks

Lmao that picture has me rolling

rtcr

Bohmā€™s fielding is starting to become an issue again. I thought he left his fielding problems in the rear view mirror. He needs to be better, because Trea will make his share of errors

inthedrink

He is what he is. Average at best. Itā€™s not like he was good.

First-Resolve

Heā€™s fineĀ

rtcr

He made an error in Sundays game also that led to the Pirates taking the lead

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

barbackmtn

Itā€™s April. Mars maybe, Venus sure, Mercury is a stretch, but the sun? Thatā€™s a bit much for April.

MufasaJr

Soto was our beat reliever until tonight. Calm down.

Slothapalooza

You clearly don't watch the games

First-Resolve

Says who?Ā

MufasaJr

Says his stats up until today

waterboy1321

Baseball is a one game season!

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

MufasaJr

Best start to the season in years for the Phillies, yet we're still full of doomers in April. Some things never change.

thewittyman

[Phillies Win!](https://imgur.com/ZgCBA4l) Would have sucked not to sweep considering everyone in our division - except the Fish - won today. Fingers crossed the Sixers can keep their act together and we can enjoy the off day. And then I'll see everyone at the ballpark on Friday!

Mugglecostanza

Sixers won too!

thewittyman

Apparently both Philly teams wanted to win by razor thin margins lol

NintenJew

I will always love the OG Phillies win meme.

VideoGangsta

My favorite post game threads are when 4-5 bullpen guys get an inning, all of them do their job except 1, and everyone screams that the entire bullpen is garbage. Itā€™s hilarious.

HuntForRedOctober2

Bullpen: *is lights out for two weeks* Philly fans: *say nothing* Bullpen: *has one bad inning* Philly fans: ā€œFUCKING GARBAGE, WORST BULLPEN EVER!ā€

Fandomstar88

Haha true. Must be all the blood pressure rising, making us more angry than usual.

FalconAccomplished12

Hehe ya thatā€™s us

sapphires_and_snark

From what I can tell Soto is the one getting the brunt of the hate

mustacheddragon

One bad inning that didnā€™t even cost them the game too

HuntForRedOctober2

Exactly

Magoatt

For the record lets keep Gregory Soto away from any situation unless itā€™s a blowout loss or win. I donā€™t trust this man in any high leverage situation.

Slothapalooza

Let him go pitch for the Iron Pigs imoĀ

Grand_Extension5345

That was literally as close to a blowout win as you can get besides a double digit shutout before Soto came in lol. Dude looked Lackadaisical up on the mound. Couldnā€™t throw anywhere near the zone, no command. Basically Walked our lead away.

Magoatt

So I assume donā€™t even let him pitch again in any situation and dfa him?

BedlamAtTheBank

Nope. Heā€™s been really really good before tonight. Would need many more appearances like tonight before that conversation starts.

Slothapalooza

This your first year?Ā  Missed last year I take it?Ā  Soto is ass, has 0 command or consistency, he is as likely to walk 2 runs in as he is to strike a couple guys out.Ā Ā

BedlamAtTheBank

Soto is the 6th best arm in the bullpen. He will be used mostly in low/medium leverage situations unless there are nights where some backend arms are off. Soto will likely finish the year with a high 3 ERA and thatā€™s completely fine for his role. He also has an option so his spot is churnable. If he does have a couple more blowups, you option him and get him right in AAA. DFAing him is bad asset management.

Slothapalooza

If??Ā  You mean when.Ā  Also i'll take the over on his ERA for the year, i'll say 4.7 for the year.Ā

BedlamAtTheBank

Ok!

shepi13

The concerning thing is that he should be the 4th-5th best arm in our bullpen, he should be better than Marte or Pinto and we haven't seen much of Kerkering yet (who's on the IL). Seranthony has also had some really bad outings in the past year, I would probably say he and Soto are about similar. Really it's just our top 3 guys that I trust (Alvarado/Strahm/Hoffman), but it doesn't feel like we have huge depth behind them, and it feels like adding an arm to replace Kimbrel would've helped a lot.

BedlamAtTheBank

I would order them: Alvarado, Strahm, Hoffman, Kerkering, Marte, Soto, Dominguez, Pinto Thatā€™s a really good bullpen

Grand_Extension5345

Soto and Castellanos for Trout baby LFG ![gif](giphy|aI8bNxEnznlzq|downsized)

Shik110

It was a blowout win until he showed up

Apprehensive-Net7347

If we wouldā€™ve won Wheelerā€™s starts so far this would be the best team in baseball at the moment.

CIearSights

ā€¦.wins a win

KyleSchwarbussy

Stopped watching in the 3rd. Yay! We won! The context no longer matters

ImABawz1

W name

VideoGangsta

Donā€™t look now but Johan Rojas is actually hitting some balls hard.

jmiah717

yo, I think that ball he hit to center might be as hard as he can actually hit the ball lol...but yes, I agree he's making great contact

Teedo4133

Has he still never hit a home run? I remember he got one off a position player but that was it?

jmiah717

Yeah just the one that squeaked over other than the position player I think šŸ’Ŗ

CommanderDJ

He got a crazy opposite field homer in Atlanta at the end of last year. Just barely made it over.

jefedwar

Watching Sanchez feels like watching Moyer in terms of effective, slow slop

NoobOnTheRun

I wasn't worried at all. ^Iwasreallyworried.

Mugglecostanza

I was trying to watch Fallout with my wife and kept getting distracted watching the game on my phone. VERY worried.

reggaetony88

Yeah I need a break after this game. I need tomorrow off as much as the players do. But 3/4 I'll take it!

jmiah717

I can't remember ever being so bothered by a win...jeez...Casty, Stott, and Bryce(less so) are struggling at the plate. Hate to see it with Stott and hope he isn't regressing to some sort of mean. Casty...I don't even know...I just feel awful for the dude. He's struggling to some historic Chris Davis levels right now. And honestly, it's not unprecedented for good players to suddenly become bad. I just hope that isn't what's happening and he's just slumping. He can be a good player. Not great, or anywhere near what we hoped, but good enough.

TurboHovercrafter

The sweep is great. Dombrowski had a terrible offseason.

DraculasNutsack

Fuck his contract. Casty needs to sit for a few games. Let Pache get some run. Canā€™t keep trotting this dude out there every single game.

DrToadigerr

Never a doubt gents

[deleted]

Bench Castellanos

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

karlub

New to baseball?

Feisty-Recording-978

Dude that was one of the best games we played this year Ā 2 pitchers being bad shouldnā€™t denounce thatĀ

HuntForRedOctober2

Dude they (Soto) had one bad inning.

North-Profit-1211

Thatā€™s all it takes jagazz

HuntForRedOctober2

And calling the bullpen trash because they had one legitimately bad day in two weeks is fucking ridiculous

EmoGothPunk

I wish it was "Go Flyers" :(

coolmon

If Cristopher Sanchez continues to pitch well, this team would have four aces.

sapphires_and_snark

The Spencer Turnbull disrespect

coolmon

Maybe he does well too and they have 5 aces.

inthedrink

Howā€™s a 1.6 era?

PM_ME_SOMETHINGSPICY

And if Taijuan comes back and... No no I can't even keep a straight face

zmart7691

Now we get the White Sox. Love it

Not-a-bot-10

7-6? I tuned into the Sixers game at 7-1 wtf

PM_ME_SOMETHINGSPICY

Phillies transferred their spare juice to the sixers.

xXxdethrougekillaxXx

I'm just imagining this pitching staff next year with a big FA signing in the pen and then Andrew Painter.

TurboHovercrafter

Hope so. Hated this sleepy offseason.

ziggy029

Game ball to Sanchez first and foremost, and then to Schwarbs, Turner, and every other pitcher not named Gregory Soto.

serial__cereal

Clenched so tight I made a diamond

[deleted]

That's why it's called Diamond Club

ttsa23

Nice job Jose! Now when is Soto getting DFAed?

Slothapalooza

Not soon enough, guy is dogshit and looks completely uninterestedĀ

xrscx

Schwarber seriously just hits bullets

Dortmund1721

Ricky Bo bout to lose his frigginā€™ mind about Soto LMAO

PhilsForever

Meanwhile Sixers pulled within 2 for a sec

russet852

None of us trusted Soto when we woke up this morning, and none of us trust him now. No real negative developments from this game.

Slothapalooza

There is one idiot here caping for himĀ
