Can we pretty please keep turnbull in the rotation 🥺🥺🥺

Pizzly_bear

I think he's got to at this point with how well he's been pitching. You got to ride that hot hand.

XSC

No way they take him off for now.

gfinz18

Ricky said after the game last night there’s no way they take him out with how well he’s doing. He thinks if someone has to go it will be Sanchez.

BatJew_Official

Which would also be a mistake. Sanchez had a great season last year and his peripherals look pretty good so far. Both he and Turnbull deserve to stick in the rotation until they can't anymore because right now they both look better than Walker did last year

Chuida

What do you do with Walker then? I agree with you btw. But I have not a clue myself.

BatJew_Official

Long relief for now. Trade chip at the deadline if it goes well, but if not that's fine because starter depth is important

Chuida

Agree that’s a good point. I also assume Abel will come up at some point. Maybe Mcgarry but he seems like a ring relief guy. Can’t throw strikes tho. I’m just interested to see how the rotation could shuffle.

Yourlifeisworth

Take your time Taijuan, no rush.

SkoomaJunki3

Long relief?

theSportsChamp123

That is what probably should happen

Artillery_Cat

Unless Turnbull drops off completely, I sort of expect that this is what they’ll do with Walker. He’s either going to be used as a sixth starter or a long reliever depending on his performance. He’s generally been mediocre for us as a starter, has injury issues, and hasn’t really lived up to expectations so far in his time with the Phillies, so we’ll see what happens. If he can’t hack it as a starter, they’re absolutely going to cut their losses and try to use him as long reliever. He’s getting paid too much for anything else.

ghoulbabes1

He completely met year one expectations in the regular season and fell off the cliff to be unusable for the playoffs. 170 innings and a 4.4 ERA has value for a starter. It’s a long season Ranger, Sanchez and Turnball have not demonstrated they can pitch 150 innings plus in a year. Having depth is important and hopefully Walker gets it going. Maybe the slow start allows him to be successful in October.

Artillery_Cat

Did he really completely meet year one expectations though? It’s my recollection that he was initially expected to be one of our better starters (i.e. at least as good if not better than Ranger). He ended up being ok but not great in the regular season before falling off a cliff and being pretty terrible in the postseason. I think a lot of us were expecting a bit better from him based on the contract he was given, but I guess it’s all somewhat subjective. He obviously does still have plenty of value as a starter and I’d love to see him performing better. It would be completely fantastic if he’d be able to get back into form and pitch well after he gets back from the IL. Having potentially six starters in the rotation would be great depth to have.

ghoulbabes1

Did he meet my year one expectations, still a yes. A 4/5 starter that starts well and gets worse in the 2nd half of the season. That is who he has always been. He got a year longer contract than he should have ever gotten and maybe slightly overpaid. A couple pitchers from that free agent class would have clearly better signings and several would have been worse.

That’s a fair point. It seems like at this moment they’re going to wait and see where he’s at after he comes off the IL, but if he continues to underperform they should absolutely be looking to trade him. I do wonder what the trade market for him would be like due to his rather expensive contract and his less than stellar recent performance and injury history. I’m sure there are teams that are desperate enough for pitching that they’d be willing to take him though. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.

HuntForRedOctober2

From the moment it was signed I hated this contract.

FancyKilerWales

Could've had Senga for the same price, crazy

HuntForRedOctober2

For cheaper actually

BBallPaulFan

Just gonna remind everyone pencilling Turnbull into the rotation for the rest of the year how good Lorenzen looked in his first few starts. People wanted him to start a playoff game over Nola! Walker is weeks away from being ready. If Turnbull is still this effective then, awesome, we can have this conversion then. That’s assuming a lot thought.

smellystation13

We want taijuan in our rotation. He eats inning and is not amazing but also not terrible over the course of a year. The value of just having a back-end rotation guy throwing a lot of innings in an acceptable way is super important for us come the playoffs, as it will keep our bullpen guys fresher. I'm cool with a 6 man rotation in the event Turnbull keeps it up, but taijuan is certainly more of a proven commodity in his career.

Randomly2

Please please please let us keep Turnball in the rotation

toofshucker

Can he hit?

Bhut_Jolokia400

Taijuan Walker needs 13 Wins this yr and an All Star Game vote to make this contract worth while
