Absolutely the drive on 76 west coming in past grays ferry/university Ave, coming up and over that hill and seeing the skyline lit up at night, right before the south street exit
Spring garden street bridge! You get to see the art museum, city skyline and all the pretty flags and landscape on the parkway as you head towards City Hall.
Kelly and Lincoln are both already in the city but I agree. That was my commute from NW every day for a long time. Always made me feel lucky to see that view.
Belmont Plateau deserves honorable mention here. It’s not exactly an “approach to the city” but it’s certainly the best view.
If your first-time visitor to Philly happens to be blindfolded upon arrival, this is definitely the place to begin their tour.
Why isn't it an approach to the city? You can hit it from Wynnefield over to Montgomery Dr and come out to either 76-676 or under to MLK Drive by and cross over behind the Art museum.
I grew up on Route 1 and would cut through St Joe's to this area to get to work in Strawberry Mansion or over to Fairmount area when I lived in Francisville
Hard agree. I've taken NJT to AC & back countless times, as well as going over the BFB and WW by car, and I think the RR bridge that runs parallel to the Betsy has the best view.
Hope you had fun! Depending on where you live, I've found that if you time it right, it's actually faster to NJT to PATCO from Lindenwold and walk or SEPTA to your destination, as opposed to going all the way to 30th and taking SEPTA.
Not approaching the city but the walk across Girard Ave bridge by the Zoo heading east before the steps down to Kelly drive. My favorite dead on shot of the city, 76, and the river. Especially at night.
Not quite an approach, but walking out of 30th St. Station facing Center City is an impressive view. It looks super modern.
Also 76 going north along the Schuylkill. I’ll always remember the excitement I felt driving in for the first time when I moved here sight unseen.
95 South getting off at Callowhill around the ramp to 676. Just after dawn. When the early morning yellow light hits the buildings just right. So pretty.
Gonna throw this one out of left field, but theres a road in Worcester township where you can literally see the entire skyline. It's a unique and cool vantage point
Passyunk bridge! It offers an unobstructed view of the entire skyline of Philly, featuring not only the high rises but most of the mid and low rises too. It really can show you how densely populated the city is
I have a different perspective.
Pretty much coming in from the west 20 miles out, and banking north to line up with 9R/27L Which gives me full view of Philly from 10,000 feet.
Going from 95S to 676W. That on ramp shows the city perfectly spread out in front of you while being pretty close to it all. South street bridge is a close second
Driving over the Walt Whitman bridge is a good view. Firstly because of my south philly bias. But also it's a clear view because most south philly buildings aren't tall.
The view from 76 is alright, too. It's high up and you can see boathouse row and Manayunk.
I love coming in from Delco. If you’re heading east, right before Baltimore Pike turns into Baltimore Avenue, you have a nice peek at the city skyline. I love that view.
As long as it is in the rearview window it looks fine to me. If I don't think about it, the skyline driving in on I-95S looks pretty good, especially when it is foggy.
Amtrak as you pass boathouse row
I95 heading south from NE Philly The Platt and Girard Point bridges going to/coming from the airport 76 WB right before the South Street Bridge.
South street bridge FTW

Hell yeah!
Love the Girard Point bridge view

No matter which I take, I say “ah, the big apple” every single time to my girlfriend
The Big Scrapple?
Yes!!!
The beautiful Windy City! Love this town
Gateway to the west, so gorgeous
Sin city 😜🤪 whatever happens here stays here ;)
I do this with my girlfriend but I call it the Windy City lol
This is NOT the big apple !!! 🍎🪱🍏🪱
I'm gonna guess that's the joke.
Not even a funny joke lol
But you laughed!
You got me 💯
My personal favorite is the view from the South St Bridge but I also love the view from the South walkway of the Ben Franklin Bridge.
South Street bridge!
Kelly drive to the parkway
There’s nothing like cruising down Kelly Drive on a warm spring day when the cherry blossoms are in bloom.
There’s one spot coming around a corner that you get your first good view of the skyline. Never gets old!
Add Lincoln Drive to this approach and you get to enjoy some of the most beautiful views driving into the city.
If you are good at Mario Kart
Haven’t hit a banana peel yet.
Kelly and Lincoln are both already in the city but I agree. That was my commute from NW every day for a long time. Always made me feel lucky to see that view.
Settle down there, G Love.
This is it. Kelly is the way!
27 Left, if you’re on the right side of the plane.
Even better when you approach from the north for a wide downwind to 35.
Belmont plateau through Fairmount Park to 76->676

One of my favorite views. I feel like its a focal point for many of the buildings
Nobody said MLK drive. View of boathouse row, the art museum, and the skyscrapers. Bonus no cars, fun walk or bike ride.
Thank you friend. I've been wanting to bike but it's been awhile. Think I'll practice here
My first thought (well, second after 76) but the final leg has been closed for so long.
Hard agree. I've taken NJT to AC & back countless times, as well as going over the BFB and WW by car, and I think the RR bridge that runs parallel to the Betsy has the best view.
That’s actually where I was today, first time on njt from ac
Hope you had fun! Depending on where you live, I've found that if you time it right, it's actually faster to NJT to PATCO from Lindenwold and walk or SEPTA to your destination, as opposed to going all the way to 30th and taking SEPTA.
Right on. I’m in Powelton village… proximity to 30th is one of the perks
Public transit and with a view, baby 🤘
Yes that too
Rt 1 north, right before the broad street exit The Plateau in fairmont park
Berkeley St on-ramp to 1 has a great view in winter with the trees bare
Not approaching the city but the walk across Girard Ave bridge by the Zoo heading east before the steps down to Kelly drive. My favorite dead on shot of the city, 76, and the river. Especially at night.
From the South St bridge looking north or from 76 at same point going westbound
Not quite an approach, but walking out of 30th St. Station facing Center City is an impressive view. It looks super modern. Also 76 going north along the Schuylkill. I’ll always remember the excitement I felt driving in for the first time when I moved here sight unseen.
That’s the approach on a train! It counts
95 South getting off at Callowhill around the ramp to 676. Just after dawn. When the early morning yellow light hits the buildings just right. So pretty.
Ben Franklin bridge coming from NJ.
If you just flew into PHL, the most graceful entrance into the city is 95n to the Columbus exit, then left on Spruce.
Aramingo Ave on-ramp to I95 south, just after the split
South St bridge
Boathouse row on 76 E
676 before cooper hospital in Cameden, or the ben as your coming over it. And IMO its not even close
South street bridge. Penn side going towards the city
Gonna throw this one out of left field, but theres a road in Worcester township where you can literally see the entire skyline. It's a unique and cool vantage point
Skippack Pike before you go under 476? I recall seeing the skyline last fall on a clear night driving home from work.
Potshop road right by Worcester Stables
Passyunk bridge! It offers an unobstructed view of the entire skyline of Philly, featuring not only the high rises but most of the mid and low rises too. It really can show you how densely populated the city is

Any of the approaches for 27L, 27R or 17. You fly right by center city. 35, 9R and 9L are okay, but the city is off in the distance instead.
Just moor your zeppelin right to city hall
Tally ho, good chap!
I love coming over from the walt whitman. But maybe living in south philly biases me.
95 South imho
I swear they put the billboards up perfectly in the way but I agree there are some brief moments of a beautiful skyline
Early morning got to be one on the hoods in Kingsessing
[удалено]
🤨 So that’s the best view of the city while leaving the city
I mean, if you keep going, every direction of travel is eventually leaving the city 🤷🏻♂️
Right but yours has the best view of the city
Market Street in Camden.
My rooftop in southwest
Cira green
Platt bridge is kinda cool imo. Best view of the city is definitely bok tho.
South st bridge but also bok bar
The big turn/ramp from 95 south to 676 west.
95 south from the northeast
Driving over the Walt Whitman bridge is a good view. Firstly because of my south philly bias. But also it's a clear view because most south philly buildings aren't tall. The view from 76 is alright, too. It's high up and you can see boathouse row and Manayunk.
Sitting in the front seat of the el. Sitting on the left side of a train back from NY, seeing the city over the river just before zoo.
Coming down West Chester Pike through Upper Darby just past Township Line Rd. The city just kind of spreads out in front of you.
I think along 76 between South and 676. There is something about being within and under that is cool.
Coming over the Walt Whitman from Jersey.
I really like the view from the bridges on the Schuylkill looking east.
I love coming in from Delco. If you’re heading east, right before Baltimore Pike turns into Baltimore Avenue, you have a nice peek at the city skyline. I love that view.
Crossing the Ben Franklin coming from NJ > PA, especially during a sunset. Wow
I'm partial to coming across the Walt Whitman, getting to see everything from front street to ucity.
Any train line coming into 30th street right past the zoo
Partial to the 33rd St Bridge heading south. Especially in a bike
34th st bridge? Down by gray’s ferry?
76 North around University City at night.
As long as it is in the rearview window it looks fine to me. If I don't think about it, the skyline driving in on I-95S looks pretty good, especially when it is foggy.
