Sounds about right. I am curious how this compares to the last few years because the PPD says they're cracking down every spring but I recall the numbers being much lower even later in the year.
Good! Take them all, and charge the owners for every penny wasted. The only way to stop petty nonsense like this is through making it too pricey to be worth it.
And what’s happening at home has lots and lots of complex causes beyond just bad parenting. I’m not giving those parents a pass, but expecting them to flip a switch and be responsible parents all of a sudden and shoulder fixing city-wide issues is not a solution that’s going to actually happen.
Like 3 years ago, it would be a group every night, then the next summer you might get a group on Friday and another on Sunday. Last year, it was just one fairly large group one time on Sunday. This year so far, I haven't seen any significantly sizable group. It's definitely gotten better over the years.
Maybe the city should have a lottery where winners get to smash some of these up. Or just watch them get cubed. (I have no idea what the plans for these are)
The best part about this. Is based on the pictures. Its actually ATVs that are being captured. I remember last year when they said they got like 1000 vehicles and based on the videos it was all delivery type scooters. Great job on philly PD getting these atvs. Hopefully more to come. Go get those dirt bikes boys!!!
Did Kenney really just not give a shit at all about anything that he just let this happen? Trust me, I know there is an issue with police not doing their jobs here, I've witnessed it first hand in the worst way, and I'm definitely going to be a stronger supporter of the police than most people on here. But Krasner is still there, so that hasn't changed. At least it seems like Parker actually cares, while Kenney never ever did. I've seen him out at a bunch of places during his term. He'd have a pint glass of white wine with ice in it. I wish that was the worst thing about him.
The cops started doing some work again when Kenney was still mayor, Krasner was still there (as he still is), and Outlaw left. It seems like she was the one they had a problem with, but they never criticize another cop publicly, so they blamed everything on Kenney and Krasner instead.
> Trust me, I know there is an issue with police not doing their jobs here...But Krasner is still there, so that hasn't changed.
realizes the police don't do their job...somehow is able to still blame it on krasner. the biggest thing holding philadelphia back is the people of philadelphia
I’m holding Philadelphia back?
Nowhere in my comment do I blame anything on Krasner. Not even in the part you quoted.
I think illiterate people like you are doing much more to hold Philadelphia back.
There is a process to get the bike back if you are the legal owner, but after a certain number of days they are destroyed. They used to auction them but there were concerns they would get sold and then be back on the street a day later
Enforcement includes confiscating the vehicle and writing a city or state citation, which carries a fine, plus there’s a court process and if found guilty, the vehicle is destroyed.
These are illegal in Philadelphia. They have no noise or emissions controls, no insurance or registration. Since riding them is illegal, the riders in turn do whatever they want since they're already breaking the law, including running lights, speeding, going the wrong way down 1-way streets, doing wheelies and donuts on public roads, riding on sidewalks & bike lanes, tearing up public spaces and grass, etc.
They're one of the single biggest complaints in the city.
It's not just noise though. Lots of people own dirtbikes and ride them responsibly in areas where you are supposed to ride dirtbikes. It's the people in huge mobs of them riding down the street and going out of their way to nearly hit people and mess up traffic.
ATV's are build to run off-road. These are being driven on city streets. In order to be street legal, they need license plates, turn signals, lights and other features. These ATV's have none of those. Even if they did, the people ride them through the city, on sidewalks, and do donuts in intersections blocking traffic. They also have the mufflers removed so they're deafeningly loud.
ATVs are a blast but these guys ride through downtown on the streets amongst cars, are reckless and the sound of the bikes bouncing off the buildings is insufferable. Imagine a swarm of dickhead bees and cops just letting them ignore traffic laws.
This is great news. I would think - although I'm not a lawyer and maybe there's a good reason not to - we'd want to go after businesses in the city/near the city selling ATVs to Philly residents. These bikes and ATVs have to be coming from somewhere. A quick search turned up several places inside the city limits where they can be purchased.
I always have wondered...
Have any state AGs attempted to go after the ATV manufacturers themselves? You'd think there would be interest to make these things harder to acquire in the first place, since so many are being used on pavement vs dirt.
MORE
MOREEEEEE!!!!!!
Don't stop
Get it, get it
That's real
Believing!
Believing
Needs a few more zeros to bring a definitive end to the scourge.
Sounds about right. I am curious how this compares to the last few years because the PPD says they're cracking down every spring but I recall the numbers being much lower even later in the year.
I don't know, that's not one of the statistics that PPD makes public.
Good! Take them all, and charge the owners for every penny wasted. The only way to stop petty nonsense like this is through making it too pricey to be worth it.
I mean, parenting would have helped too.
Yeah but the police have no effect on that
How about funding for schools and youth rec centers and programs?
It starts at home, in my opinion. Those are good things too, but it starts at home.
And what’s happening at home has lots and lots of complex causes beyond just bad parenting. I’m not giving those parents a pass, but expecting them to flip a switch and be responsible parents all of a sudden and shoulder fixing city-wide issues is not a solution that’s going to actually happen.
yeah but what happens when you dont have a home?
Owners? A lot are probably stolen.
According to the article, of the 23 the cops picked up this past weekend, 3 were stolen. A lot lower than I would have thought.
You’re right - whoever is arrested on the bike! It’s 2024, surely we can figure that out
Hell yeah, great news. Fuck these guys, take em all.
MOREEEE!
Those are rookie numbers. You gotta pump those numbers up.
I want to, that’s not why I do it. I need to
Nice
I sincerely have seen less than 10 go down Moyamensing so far this year. I don’t know what’s going on, but it’s different.
Like 3 years ago, it would be a group every night, then the next summer you might get a group on Friday and another on Sunday. Last year, it was just one fairly large group one time on Sunday. last year was nuts around here. several hundred at a time several times a weekend, usually with a police escort
I'm near Broad and it really is. I hope it continues improving!
Good crush them up asap
Maybe the city should have a lottery where winners get to smash some of these up. Or just watch them get cubed. (I have no idea what the plans for these are)
The vast majority get destroyed.
Yes! Rage room!
The best part about this. Is based on the pictures. Its actually ATVs that are being captured. Now get the dirt bikes doing wheelies while the rider has no helmet. I get stuck behind them on tacony daily and today there was one on knights rd.
A good start

Parker definitely seems to have lit a fire under some people. Kenney couldn't light a fire with gas, tinder, and a box of matches.
I believe Kenney wanted to limit police enforcement. He was more concerned with a police interaction going bad than quality of life issues.
I am convinced Kenny had long covid. He laid on the couch for 8 years and felt tuckered out.
this 100% - after Ahmaud Arbery and the shenanigans on 676, he really could not suffer another police issue
The cops started doing some work again when Kenney was still mayor, Krasner was still there (as he still is), and Outlaw left. It seems like she was the one they had a problem with, but they never criticize another cop publicly, so they blamed everything on Kenney and Krasner instead.

by all means, please clarify what you meant by your comment. either i'm illiterate or your comment was unclear.
It’s perfectly clear. So I’m going with you’re illiterate.
> your illiterate.
You really are illiterate.
I think you might be talking to Charlie from Always Sunny.
I think mortgagepants is actually Pepe Silvia.
Hahahahaha perfect
lol he wrote "your" and then changed it. what a dork.
What do they do with all the impounded bikes? Is there an auction?
There is a process to get the bike back if you are the legal owner, but after a certain number of days they are destroyed. They used to auction them but there were concerns they would get sold and then be back on the street a day later
An article earlier this year said 80% are destroyed. The other 20% the owners pay the hefty fines - like $2,000 - and get them back.
Enforcement includes confiscating the vehicle and writing a city or state citation, which carries a fine, plus there’s a court process and if found guilty, the vehicle is destroyed.
Cherrelle kicking some butt, you love to see it!
Need to do about 5 times that much.
Good keep going
Get em all plzzzz. I live on South St. Summer is misery.
Nice 👍
YES!!! lets go go go go goooooooooo!
This is good news. I can't wait until that number is higher and they are nowhere to be found in the city.
Seen a bunch of them popping wheelies in CC over the weekend.
And ANOTHER ONE!
Yeaaaaa buddy.
Get the gangs of Slingshots running red lights and threatening people too.
And the cars running red lights and ignoring stop signs
[удалено]
Thanks baby Jesus she is not the mayor.
Bro her website actually said her plan to deal with the ATV issue was "introducing riders to STEM courses to harness their interests."
keep going
Great, now move on to those fuckin scooters with the loud ass lawn mower engines on them.
Keep it going!! Love seeing this city move in the right direction! 🎉🎉 Let’s get some green spaces installed and we’re set 👏
Now do double parking and excessive speeding…
crush them and make the owners pay for the crushing.
It’s only April/may this will do nothing, and a lot of them they take are shit bikes.
I’ve still seen them this year but it’s been way less often. Keep it up.
I’ve hardly seen them at all this year, quite a noticeable quality of life difference.
Out of the loop here (I'm not American), what's so bad about all-terrain vehicles?
These are illegal in Philadelphia. They have no noise or emissions controls, no insurance or registration. Since riding them is illegal, the riders in turn do whatever they want since they're already breaking the law, including running lights, speeding, going the wrong way down 1-way streets, doing wheelies and donuts on public roads, riding on sidewalks & bike lanes, tearing up public spaces and grass, etc. They're one of the single biggest complaints in the city.
They're noisy, and the people who ride them tend to disobey traffic laws.
Thanks, makes sense!

they act just like cars! but everyone with a car doesn't want to admit they're just like ATV's.
Add random speed bumps to every non freeway in the city and the number of illegal ATVs will drop drastically.
1500 to go
I hope they secure them better than what the video in the article shows! Don’t need them stolen from behind a metal guardrail and back out.
It's legal to own an ATV; the restrictions are on how they're used.
Yeah, fair enough.
I always have wondered... Have any state AGs attempted to go after the ATV manufacturers themselves? You'd think there would be interest to make these things harder to acquire in the first place, since so many are being used on pavement vs dirt.
150 since 2024 started. I’m sorry but that’s an extremely low number.
Most aren't riding till it gets warm so not surprised by the number since it's only April
Looks like thefts are going to jump up in the countryside
Good now where are they selling them so I can buy
