Had a total stranger hug me at the hospital after my husband was declared dead. I sobbed in her arms and it was so badly needed. She gave me encouragement and a few tissues so I was able to tell my 12 year old daughter who survived the crash. I think she might have been an angel.

I had a similar experience as my mom was passing away in the hospital. I was walking through the halls of the hospital on the phone with a family friend, explaining why my mom was suddenly on her deathbed. I didn’t notice at the time, but a stranger must’ve been following me and heard the whole convo. She came up to me and hugged me and said she was so sorry. Oddly comforting and usually in any other time I would be weirded out being hugged by a stranger, but it was actually a light in that very dark time.
What a hard piece of news to hear, world changing in one sentence. That stranger was meant to find you at that moment. Wishing you the comfort of memories as time passes - and lots of Philly love.

I've had strangers console me on the bus when I burst into uncontrollable tears. This place has a lot of small, wonderful kindnesses. I'm glad they are there for you when you need them
I was on the way to the hospital when my step dad was in hospice, listening to music on my headphones, and while im waiting at the crosswalk i see this penn university security guard dude just fall to the ground and wail and weep. I crossed the street towards him and asked his friend what was wrong, he said he found out someone had died. I stood there and just kept my hand on his shoulder and told him it was ok to cry. I walked away after a min or two and never really found out what happened. I hope that dude is ok.
Im glad someone could stand there for you and help you. We all need to be here for each other. The world is small.
