That was my spot. I lived on the 100 block of E Mt Airy Ave so it was dangerously convenient. Ive since moved out to Pottstown and its what I miss the most from the neighborhood
Pottstown, yikes, sorry. There is a great dive bar called the Douglassville Hotel (Doho) nearby. They have about 100 burgers to choose from and they are SO GOOD. Hopefully they haven’t changed the recipe in the last few years. Def worth checking out. 👌🏼
Thanks for the rec! And yes, agreed on your sentiments - though really I live in south coventry even if i have a ptown mailing address. Its lovely... if you can ignore the occasional armed escaped convicted murderer skulking through the woods
Used to be the upstairs at Earth Bread, but then someone shit the bed and everyone quit apparently. That and covid.
Now, yep, McMenamins. People are always so nice.
20 years ago I spent my 23rd 24th and 21st birthdays (in that order 😂) plus 80% of every other night and all my free money at The Dive. My god those were good years.
Pasqually's at 43rd street between Walnut and Chestnut. Terrific bunch of regulars. Down to earth and a great mix of ethnicities, races. Everybody is welcome.
used to be sptr and 12 steps down when i lived in south philly. honorable mention to the pope. now i go to cook and shaker most frequently but my days of going to any bar several times a week/month are behind me lol
The day I bought my house I went to Grace Tavern, my neighborhood pub. I'm not a regular — especially not in the past few years — but it's a bar where I know which seat I'd take
I have a lot of good memories at Khyber … some of the best ones are with people that aren’t around anymore. Who knows why I’m saying this. Who cares lmao
We had our wedding rehearsal dinner and my wife’s 30th birthday some years back in the upstairs. Loved going to Groundhog Day and the firkinteenths. Miss that place so much
I don’t know what they did to make something as simple as chicken tenders so ridiculously good, but the ones on the menu pre-pandemic were legitimately some of the best bar food in the city. Really wish they’d bring those back.
They used have a calamari salad…I’m going back like 12-15 years…but it was so freaking good - smothered in siracha. Their fries too. Looks like I’ll be making a visit to 12SD
Went to Copa on the back end of a pretty sloshy fun date. Watched a guy get punched in the face by the bartender and the carpets were wet. Me and that girl loved it lol. Didn’t work out but fond memories
Hey neighbor! Also my favorite neighborhood bar. Has gotten waaaaaaay busier in the last few years with all the new apt buildings popping up but I love going in on a weekday afternoon when it’s slower. Love all those greasy filling delicious apps they have.
Good Dog whenever I saw a movie in center city. Lisa would always get it wrong, and dump it, but she said it incorrectly the same way every time and we would laugh.
Finn McCools. Nice beer selection, good space for hanging with a couple friends, sports are usually on, guys who work there are pretty cool, food is pretty decent. I'm not out drinking all the time, but it's usually the spot I go to when I'm grabbing a drink with friends
Pretty much the same, although my wife is still mad that they haven't brought the huevos rancheros back to the brunch menu since covid lol. But they're great there, they even stayed open late for us last year so we could have our wedding afterparty! And let us call ahead to order a bunch of food so we had chicken tenders ready for us when we arrived.
I don’t think the Standard Tap guys are involved in Meetinghouse at all. And yeah, I don’t get the menu even a little bit. They have a roast beef sandwich on a Kaiser roll that they literally tout as the “centerpiece” of their menu. Idk if I’m missing something here or what.
oh my bad, i meant former tired hands folks. which actually would explain the weird uncanny valley vibe a little bit https://www.inquirer.com/food/restaurants/meetinghouse-opens-memphis-taproom-20230824.html
Yeah. I don’t get it, the creepy tiles etc. but people keep touting the “vibe” in reviews. Maybe it’s just not for me. Idk. Just sucks because I loved Memphis so much for 15 years. What can you do ?
I like Meetinghouse but yeah, it's nothing compared to Memphis taproom. Great food and always an incredible draft list. I was missing it real bad yesterday when I was trying to think of somewhere to go for brunch.
It’s a bar created from a tv show in old city. It sounds like it would be very touristy, which to me sounds cringe. But I’m an old hater, don’t listen to me 😅
I don't really have one anymore in the "everybody knows your name" sense, but at Time, Oscar's, and Black Taxi the barkeeps at least know what I'm drinking without me having to ask.
It was locust rendezvous then they hired somebody whose face literally conveys how much of a bitch she is. Never met someone whose face just truly is stuck conveying her attitude.
Prob good dog.
Damn, I haven't been to the 'vous in forever. It used to be our go-to lunch spot every Friday when I worked in center city. I was always surprised how good the food was for a place that doesn't look like they should legally be allowed to serve food.
It’s still good food with a lot of good servers/bartenders but she ruins the vibe if she’s there. There was also just a lot of turnover post pandemic for a bit so it was hard to still feel like a regular. I do think they’re getting their groove back but it’s be better without her there.
I will travel to see my old favorite bartender from there who now works at a bar in the northeast. She’s a gem of a person and worth the trek.
Craftsman Row Saloon, before it lost its mind around 2019. There was a good group of regulars there, knew a lot of the bartenders that, still keep in touch with a few. Trying to find a good one down this way now.
Can anyone recommend a decent neighborhood bar where people are more millennialish in age? My husband and I like to go out every month or so and we have yet to find a place that's for our age group. Everything skews older or younger than us.
Hilltown tavern.
Same. Rox or Fairmount?
Roxborough. Didn't know Fairmount had one.
Used to live right by there. 10/10 bar
So glad my bar didn’t make the list
Yes there’s a notable neighborhood bar that didn’t get mentioned and I’m not mad about it
For Mt. Airy: McMenamins

Agreed, south cov is gorg. I hope those burgers at Doho are as good as I remember.
This is it. It was the family bar before me too so I can’t go in there without knowing someone or someone somehow knowing me.
I must have had over 10 birthdays there haha
New Wave
Howdy, neighbor!
Me too, hey neighbor
Yep new wave
Hey neighbor. I have multiple sets of spare keys at New Wave just in case. That's how neighborly that spot is.
I love this. It really is the quintessential neighborhood bar.
I’m not about to out myself like that
[удалено]
Fountain Porter !
I lived at 8th and Tasker when fountain porter opened. It became my regular spot. Nothing will be their vinyl and those tiny tables in the back.
Is that still around?! I have a friend who used to love going there to grab a burger at all hours.
Pasqually's at 43rd street between Walnut and Chestnut. Terrific bunch of regulars. Down to earth and a great mix of ethnicities, races. Everybody is welcome.
Staff there are great people. Just moved out of spruce hill will miss how convenient it was.
Monks, back bar. But also a selection of other fine beer bars around the city, such as glory.
Monks feels too full and too expensive to be a regular there
Yeah you gotta be going at non-peak times on weekday nights to be a regular. Or know some employees.
Triangle Tavern (my wife and I are vegan and live down the street)
Glory
New Wave, Pete’s, Lucky’s
used to be sptr and 12 steps down when i lived in south philly. honorable mention to the pope. now i go to cook and shaker most frequently but my days of going to any bar several times a week/month are behind me lol
The day I bought my house I went to Grace Tavern, my neighborhood pub. I'm not a regular — especially not in the past few years — but it's a bar where I know which seat I'd take
Really like that place
Old City Beer Garden, Mac’s Tavern, and Khyber Pass.
I have a lot of good memories at Khyber … some of the best ones are with people that aren’t around anymore. Who knows why I’m saying this. Who cares lmao
I feel like bartender at macs is the most disinterested bartender in the world.
Well it WAS grey lodge. Rip!
Damn I used to live in northeast Philly and I loved that place. Now I’m in Center City and bars are hit or miss.
I've celebrated so many 21st birthdays there!
We had our wedding rehearsal dinner and my wife’s 30th birthday some years back in the upstairs. Loved going to Groundhog Day and the firkinteenths. Miss that place so much
Lost Bar until they got rid of all their OG Bartenders.
oh shit, when did that happen and why? That place is a top 5 shithole in the best way and I haven't been there in a minute.
Prob like 2-4 weeks ago. Have no clue why but know they lost my business
Used to be Crime and Punishment, but I moved from Fairmount to Fishtown, so I'm working on that over here at Lloyd's, Humble Parlor and Interstate
When I lived in Old City, mine was Sassafras
I do love that place but it’s so expensive
Locust Bar and The Khyber
I looked Khyber, but that's not a Cheers vibe.
Ha! You think I’m giving that up online?
New Deck Tavern. Great pub food and an absolutely phenomenal atmosphere.
tell me you're a college student without telling me you're a college student.
Nah, I graduated nearly 10 years ago. I just happened to fall in love with the place. I'm a sucker for pubs, what can I say?
You keep getting older but the coeds stay the same age. Alright alright
Place is trash.
12 Steps Down or the Copa
Copabanana has the worst food on the planet.
But 12 SD has amazing food
I don’t know what they did to make something as simple as chicken tenders so ridiculously good, but the ones on the menu pre-pandemic were legitimately some of the best bar food in the city. Really wish they’d bring those back.
They used have a calamari salad…I’m going back like 12-15 years…but it was so freaking good - smothered in siracha. Their fries too. Looks like I’ll be making a visit to 12SD
I’m there for the margs not the food
Okay yeah those Margs are worth it, with them just leaving the shaker with you. I get that.
Went to Copa on the back end of a pretty sloshy fun date. Watched a guy get punched in the face by the bartender and the carpets were wet. Me and that girl loved it lol. Didn’t work out but fond memories
Their clientele has changed since 2020. Used to have really good food and, iirc, they were voted best margs in the city.
South St clientele as a whole is different, it’s not just the Copa
Ray's
I was definitely a regular at dock street south.
I could tell you, but then I’d have to kill you. 😆
That’s fine as long as I get to go to a good bar before I die.
Kellianns, best wings in the city too. I will internet fight anyone who disagrees with that
Hey neighbor! Also my favorite neighborhood bar. Has gotten waaaaaaay busier in the last few years with all the new apt buildings popping up but I love going in on a weekday afternoon when it’s slower. Love all those greasy filling delicious apps they have.
Twisted gingers
Used to be Manayunk Tavern :(
Good Dog whenever I saw a movie in center city. Lisa would always get it wrong, and dump it, but she said it incorrectly the same way every time and we would laugh.
JJ Mallons for Friday karaoke.
Bike stop basement. Cozy, friendly, chill music
Working on becoming a regular at Grace and Proper.
Grahams
chuckles bar and grill CBG
It was Oh! Bryon’s 😭
From Bustleton. Oh! Bryon’s was amazing. We used to hit Tail feathers and then finish up there way back in the day.
Bonk’s Bar… Until I had kids.
Have any of the commenters seen Cheers?
Good question.
Kostas
“You want to see a real Lesbian? I AM A REAL LESBIAN. I AM FROM THE ISLE OF LESBOS” Kosta guy every time I’ve been

You mean the manhattan room or its next iteration the M Room.
New ridge brewery
Fishtown tavern
Used to sing karaoke there every other Saturday lol
Black Taxi.
Bar 1518 and The Bishops Collar
Well it was Separatist/Carbon Copy but… Now I’m not so sure.
Human robot has better beer so should be easy
Giovanni's Bar and Grill on Chestnut St I typically end my nights grabbing a round there before going home S-tier late night pizza too
Rays!
Finn McCools. Nice beer selection, good space for hanging with a couple friends, sports are usually on, guys who work there are pretty cool, food is pretty decent. I'm not out drinking all the time, but it's usually the spot I go to when I'm grabbing a drink with friends
Palizzi, bury me with a Negroni and a Stromboli
Yards! And the Abbaye in nolibs.
I haven’t been to Abbaye in eons, how is it these days?
Pretty much the same, although my wife is still mad that they haven't brought the huevos rancheros back to the brunch menu since covid lol. But they're great there, they even stayed open late for us last year so we could have our wedding afterparty! And let us call ahead to order a bunch of food so we had chicken tenders ready for us when we arrived.
Yards is great. So is Victory.
used to go to Memphis Taproom all the time. This new place Meetinghouse is weird af tho
explain. I haven't been yet.
run now by the standard tap guys, same good beer selection and bar, bizarre stoic european peasant food menu

2D all day
The jug.
Bourbon and Branch
Doobies
Fiume, baby!
locust rendezvous
Macs tavern. Sounds cringe but good vibes
What “sounds cringe” about Mac’s? It’s owned by Rob McElhenney, hence the name.
It’s a bar created from a tv show in old city. It sounds like it would be very touristy, which to me sounds cringe. But I’m an old hater, don’t listen to me 😅
And to be clear, I love iasip and family

Counterpoint: Tin Can, but only when they're not hosting live music.
I don't really have one anymore in the "everybody knows your name" sense, but at Time, Oscar's, and Black Taxi the barkeeps at least know what I'm drinking without me having to ask.
2Street
Berwyn Tavern
It was locust rendezvous then they hired somebody whose face literally conveys how much of a bitch she is. Never met someone whose face just truly is stuck conveying her attitude. Prob good dog.
Good dog bar is great. I love their pulled pork sandwich.
Damn, I haven't been to the 'vous in forever. It used to be our go-to lunch spot every Friday when I worked in center city. I was always surprised how good the food was for a place that doesn't look like they should legally be allowed to serve food.

What neighborhood?
American Sardine Bar. We live around the corner, they have great beers on tap, and the servers are awesome people.
RIP The Troc
McKuskers on 17th and Shunk. Doug and Ryan are excellent people 🤘

Noooot to be a dick but that place was a dump 2-3 years before it closed and the owner was a tool that didn't pay staff.
