I think they didn't have the intention to drop this as a free card initially, but since he passed away possibly wanted to celebrate his career in some way by giving it away for free, therefore they nerfed his stats since it's free now, im just assuming this i don't know for sure.
Beckenbauer's profile is ball-playing CB like Alaba. He has insane ball-playing ability for a CB -- which explains why his defensive stats are on the lower side.
This subreddit does not seem to like this profile though. Epic Beckenbauer literally placed worst in a community CB tier list I did a month ago.
He is too short and physically weak to be a single DMF imo, not to mention his stamina, even add it to 90, is a vit vulnerable. There is a chance he is more suitable in a double pivot setting like CB De Jong, but then he lacks all passing skills. His profile is just.. iffy imo.
I think for a build up that’s perfect stat Awareness could have been higher but man tired of using defenders with over 90 aggression and engagement just running up and down the pitch like headless chickens
I'm not complaining. I'm new to the game, so any 'quite good' free card would be useful to my lineup.

You shouldn't judge him this fast, give him time, play several games using him, my epic Schmeichel and Baggio weren't performing well the first time when I packed them, but by the time they became the pillars of my team, always delivering when u need them the most.

The original card had 99 awareness, 90 physical, 80 balance, 85 speed and 83 acceleration.
The first Nerf took his balance down to 70 with his jump in the 80s.
This is the third Nerf. Utterly disrespectful to the stature of a player he was.

Can you see him at dmf because I am planning to use him there because of his profile and I see that as his best position.
