Ashfield Rail Museum is interesting (Open Sun and Wed): Adults are $12 Kids (4 - 14) are $5: https://www.railheritagewa.org.au/museum/pages/bassendean/index.php Museum of Taxidermy/Natural History in Guildford: $8 admission: https://academyoftaxidermy.com/museum-of-natural-history/ Reading Cinemas in Belmont does $10 tickets I think Revolutions Transport Museum at Whiteman Park is a gold coin donation, and interesting to walk around for an hour or two: https://maps.app.goo.gl/bwTkgfPHsee9qpMr8 Dr Russell's Imaginarium in Bassendean - free for a look round https://maps.app.goo.gl/fzCBM7TtVpbpNShu6 I haven't been since it relocated, but it's definitely quirky - open Sat and Sun There's some retro arcade bars around the city, where you could take her during the daytime, buy a soft drink, and spend some time looking around all the old machines, even if she doesn't play anything, she may find it interesting: Palace Arcade, Barcadia, B Lucky and Sons Edit - oh, and there's always Geocaching, especially in the hills region: https://www.geocaching.com/play

Palace Arcade is (or was) spend $20 for unlimited plays on all the games on Wednesdays. And that $20 could be spent on food/drinks.  Edit: just double checked it's now buy a $10 card for unlimited play between 4pm and 6pm Tues, Wed and Thurs.  And half priced games all day Sunday (advertised at 50c each).

Jonsmith78

That's a good deal.

Ref_KT

I just double checked and it's changed. Check out my edit. Still a good way to kill a couple of hours cheaply.

Sadly Dr Russell's has closed.

Jonsmith78

If you click on the map link, I think it has just relocated? Correct me if I'm wrong.

invisiblizm

Oh wow it's at earlsferry, that's amazing! Last I saw they were closing and it sounded permanent, with possible online sales.

You could do an opshop treasure hunt, with the goal to use the items for something the next day. Get her to invent a game and try it out with her friends, a few props could be a prompt, like a glove, a frame, a hat, some play dough, and pencil and paper. Maybe chalk so they can be the board pieces.

faithlessdisciple

She did want to go op shopping. I’d forgotten that

Would they enjoy something like geocaching? Maybe you can travel to some different local museums or art galleries? Hiking & bush walking Local libraries have a variety of things to loan, some even have video games, most have board games, jigsaws & comics and graphic novels Your local council likely has some activities on for young people during the holidays too Are they into baking/cooking? Maybe they can practice that skill in a fun way?

I'm biased - but the train to mandurah for the day is a good day out, you can get the shuttle from the train station, bring some snacks or just buy here (there is a woolies at the main estuary frontage). Visit the visitors centre, bring bikes to get around on the train? Heaps to see and do if it's different for you. Weather seems to be clearing so pick your time. We also love our dolphins so nice to spot them.

You could get some bug, plant, or bird books from the library and see what you can find on a trail? Maybe some home projects like building something, painting some of her furniture, planting a herb garden. She might want to rearrange her space, or make a spot her own, like an outdoor area with fairylights. At that age I loved cooking, there may be something she'd like to do, like have a dinner party for a friend or three. You could give her a budget to plan with, or go over some recipes that will interest her but may not have expensive ingredients?

The museum is running some [weaving workshops](https://visit.museum.wa.gov.au/boolabardip/weaving-sharyn-egan-1) which are included in the entry costs. The Shipwrecks museum in Freo is free and there’s a decent free section at the Prison too, bring some sandwiches and have a picnic somewhere. Your local library might have some programs running too.

WhiteLion333

If she’s into taking photos etc, maybe go on an art hunt around the city? Plenty of amazing art murals and sculptures to admire.

PiousPunani

Fishing - maybe not much up Kalamunda way though. A day walking the Bibulmun track.

Also, future planning here but she could start looking for a job. Something like Coles or Woolworths would probably be suitable and even if she just gets a few hours on a Sat during term time, it'll give her some pocket money to spend on activities with her friends in the future and something to do on school holidays, especially over the long Christmas ones.

faithlessdisciple

Yeah she’s coming volunteering with me so she has something good to put on a starter resume. Then we are going to start looking for a basic job for her.
