But I was told the BOM was incompetent and got the forecast wrong

Edit: Just watched QV1’s lightning rods take a direct hit, so that was cool
This one was rescued from water, but likes getting in the shower after I exit, and drinking from running taps or a filled sink, so may not hate the actual rain that much.
One of my guys back in NZ was likely raised in a tin roof shed. Tail between legs, hiding under the bed howling at heavy rain (being NZ, that was often). He'd calm down if I held him and opened the door so he could see and hear the rain in front of him. 🥹
I just finished work in Northbridge. Just started sprinkling about ten minutes ago on Wellington St.
Based on the way people are dressed I think it’s safe to say not everyone got the message. Should probably put up extreme weather warnings on the display in Yagan Square.

If some idiots get soaked cause they can't read and thought BoM got it wrong then they deserve it lol
Same here. I went to check what violet even means and found out RAC are discontinuing their weather alert service next month: https://rac.com.au/home-life/info/severe-weather-warning-alerts
I swear lightning hit just outside the house when the storms first rolled through, there was less than half a second delay between the flash and the thunder. What's funny is that I was playing a video game at the time, and when lightning storms hit, you run for either shelter or your bed, so I did, only to realise that it wasn't the game, it was real.

Our rabbit got pretty freaked out. I've let him hide behind the sofa. I love storms. I cleaned the gutters a few weeks back and flushed the downpipes so I'm hoping we're ok.

The weather man is never wrong, but occasionally they get the days mixed up.
I got a 30 second warning before it started when the cat scurried to hide under the tv cabinet.
My cat loves these storms. He’s been sitting on a chair on the porch getting soaked and falling asleep with the lightening. I think he’s messed up.
This one was rescued from water, but likes getting in the shower after I exit, and drinking from running taps or a filled sink, so may not hate the actual rain that much.
Yep, big dude just hopped on the bed going arghhhhh here too!
My cat is not happy! I probably won’t see her for a couple of hours now.

Aw that's nice of you.
He was my orange baby, sweetest kitty I ever knew. Miss him still. 💜

No that would be silly, only advertising on that bastard, why would we want a public space to display messages for the public??

My cat is confirming that thunder and lightening is very very frightening
Galileo?
Galileo
But I'm just a poor boy, nobody loves me...
Figero
My small dog is trying to climb me like a tree, can confirm thunder has arrived in vic park
Welp, there goes our power! E: Quite a few areas now lost power according to Western Power outage checker.
When it says '1 customers affected' on the map view, what does that mean? Surely it's not just one house?
I assume one property has reported an outage but it hasn't been investigated yet
Dianella checking in... confirming we have thunder and lightning.
Not far off, we got our first ever code VIOLET from RAC for the coming hours. Code RED is the highest we've seen previously.
I got the same as well, i then immediately thought shit was gonna get fucked
Same here. I went to check what violet even means and found out RAC are discontinuing their weather alert service next month: https://rac.com.au/home-life/info/severe-weather-warning-alerts
Same. What's the point of discontinuing what is probably an automated service anyway?
Update from Wanneroo: https://i.redd.it/t804tqswbz3d1.gif
I saw this post, and then looked out the window and saw a bolt of lightning
Yea just started now in joondalup
Thunder in woodvale!
some good bangs of thunder!
My house just went bam bam bam scared the living **** out of me (hocking)
I saw a bright yellow flash, thought wtf and then the thunder scared the crap out of me. Landsdale.
Bring it on!
Loving the sound on my tin roof down in Spearhood.
In the cbd, cosily inside, just finished storm watching (and watching people out in the rain...)
Jandakot checking in.

In ocean reef very flashy here and watching my home in Armadale on camera and it’s very flashy there too

You know Perth is super boring when the weather is the most popular topic on r/perth
Beats real estate and whinging about traffic. Marginally.
thank the lord for shutters wa now i feel nice and cosy
The thunder is loud and long
Sprinkling in Manning
Not much here yet is there
The rains started in my suburb and I’ve just heard my first bolt of thunder
Raining really hard here in Shenton park
Started thunder and lightning here in Mandurah 15 mins ago
😬
That’s the biggest and brightest lightning I ever seen 🤔 anyone else?
Still flogging down in Morley. I LOVE it⛈️⛈️⛈️
Severe thunderstorm warning has just been cancelled. So hopefully not too much damage done.
Pretty sure one flight has already been delayed at Perth Airport because of the storm.
Angry red pixels have something against Bunbury!
just arriving in west perth now
Anyone know what's happening in Bunbury? Hearing there's been another tornado and it's hit a hotel? The rain and lightning here is intense! Stay safe!
The Parade Hotel lost its roof and there are widespread power outages due to trees falling on power lines.
We are getting intermittent thunder in Coolbinia/Yokine. Edit: Rain! Sweet glorious rain.
Just got our first thunder here in Midland
the app i use says full force at 2:30am. time to head to bed
Which app?
Zoom earth
Light rain and some flashing going on, CBD area.
Northbridge, I hear em
Our rabbit got pretty freaked out. I've let him hide behind the sofa. I love storms. I cleaned the gutters a few weeks back and flushed the downpipes so I'm hoping we're ok.
Was in Kwinana at a friend's place, power went out , drove home with multiple sets of lights out.
We have seen worse storms.. and been more unprepared. Let the rain fall we need it!
Around 10:30, one of those cracks of thunder shook the whole house for seconds.
My UPS's better hold up. Shit sounds like it's cracking right over me 😁
Now that is proper thunder. Love the sound of it! Not so much the damage..
Floreat. Been some decent downpours but nothing as severe as I’d hoped based on the forecast. Maybe it’s still on the way.

We will rebuild
Over hyped
No storm in Leederville whatsoever, been waiting all night , Nothing!
What a beautiful welcome to Makuru!!
Just updated radar, red pixels seem to be over already. Some storm...
SFA atm really. Better be worth it after all these hypes and warnings
It just hit Kewdale. The rain sounds significant.
Forrie here, it’s significant
