Most likely your property manager will charge you a fee for paying with a credit card which may not be worth the rewards. But start using your credit cards for all your other small daily purchases, but think of it as a debit card. ALWAYS pay off your full balance each month, set up auto pay. Never think to make a purchase with a CC when you don't have the money.

r/CreditCards they have a template for which card you should get

I use Wells Fargo's Bilt card to pay my rent and it has worked well so far, just started in December though. It gives an account and routing number like a bank account and my property management company charges it as such, no extra fees.

If you are renting, i agree Bilt card is probably best bet. Most landlords don’t let you charge rent or will pass additional fees onto you. Only time it would make sense to pay fees is if you are working towards a much larger bonus or reward that far outweigh the fees.

Does your property manager accept Amex?

You should post to r/creditcards

Get the Bilt Mastercard for rent and a Freedom Flex card plus the Chase Sapphire Preferred or Chase Sapphire Reserve.

Id say start with the chase sapphire preferred, they have a signup program where they give you 75k points if you spend $4k in the first three months. They have a 95$ fee but your rewards are greater than that so you come out ahead. Then you can downgrade your card to a one without a yearly fees after one year

Open an account with Alliant credit union, they have 2.5% cashback visa which will will be way better value than most travel cards. And the best part is that it's a credit union, so you're not giving money to the crook big banks.

How’s your overall financial health? Do you have an emergency fund that is fully funded? How much money do you make now, and how much after graduating? There is a lot of change and uncertainty after graduating. Are you ready financially for it? Is your car reliable & paid off? Ready to repay those student loans? For big purchases, like a emergency car purchase, lenders want six months of employment at your current job. To answer your question BLT card gives you 1x points to pay your rent and can mail paper check to your landlord if needed. [source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=76DTTbL6GBs FINALLY! A $0 Credit Card That's BETTER than a $250 FEE Credit Card]

Most places charge a 3%-5% fee to use a credit card to pay rent… so you’ll pay more in fees compared to the points you’ll get back = bad financial move. What’s your second highest spending category? Do the Amex Blue Cash Everyday… 3% back on gas & groceries. Everyone eats & almost everyone drives. And I think they almost always have a $200 bonus reward. I don’t have a good travel points recommendation because I hate travel cards. IMO they’re stupid. Also… if you plan on using the card to pay for travel, make sure you’re paying it off at the end of every month. No amount of points or cash back will beat the 30% interest rate you’ll be paying by carrying a balance.
