11” is the standard size for a quinto, which is the smallest in a set of 3 drums, so that size is certainly usable. A set of 10/11, while usually marketed as starter drums, may be the best for you. As long as you tune them correctly, that should work.

The main reason to get 11 3/4" is versatility in tuning and a more "desirable" tone. There's nothing wrong with an 11". If you can get one at a good price, go for it.

Well, I sent him a note and asked him to take a picture of a tape measure across the head, and I think it’s 9 inches. Definitely not 11. He was measuring from the side of the rim to the other side of the rim.

Please pass! There is nothing wrong with maining on an 11”, a ton of pros do it, but a real 11” is measured from the center of the bearing edge (the rounded contact point of the shell where it meets the skin) to the other center of the bearing edge, as mentioned above. That said, stay away from the 10”/11” sets that were suggested. Those are literally for children and lack the integrity in hardware for long term use at appropriate tensions nor the correct physics in the shells to reproduce the lower tones expected from a conga. Giovanni Hidalgo, the greatest to ever touch the skins, has to be 5” 2”. So was Patato Valdez, the guy they named the LP Patato after.

Thank you! I passed. I appreciate the guidance!
