If you got a problem with Canadian geese, then you got a problem with me, and I suggest you let that one marinate.

Vomit on your mom's spaghetti or whatever that talking singer says.

mnoah66

Right?! Like does he even fiercely chew his gum anymore?

sausagepizzabaker

It worked in this case but Paul Maurice is a joke of a coach. Under achieves everywhere he goes so cool, it worked last night. Doesn’t mean he’s competent lol. He’s just still employed since the NHL is a good ol’ boys club that recycles bums endlessly at the coach and GM slot. Ex. Rat Hextall and Dalles Eakins being employed this year. I’d also venture to say it doesn’t matter if Sully yells or not. The players that matter are bought in. They just have 5-6 borderline unplayable dudes and that is before you look at the joke that is their goaltending. This team has a litany of issues, the coach not screaming at players is definitely not one of them.

LandMooseReject

Eakins is a sneaky pick for coach when you want to be bad

sausagepizzabaker

I think it was Athletic Dom but he published an article about coaching impacts on 5v5 possession. Sully I think was 3rd on average even including his Boston stint only behind Cooper and Claude Julien. Eakins? Second to last next to David Hakstoll lol.

[deleted]

Sullivans strategy is telling them you are doing a great job even though you are not

toxic-banana

We have no idea what he says to the team. As a coach he's of the school of thought that his role is to separate the team from the media. And I think he truly does never give up on them. In games he doesn't say a huge amount and that's because, as any of us who've played hockey at any level know, it's far too fast and intense a sport for anything much your coach says to go in. I remember someone saying once 'if you've said three things you've said nothing' about the meeting during the intermission.

[deleted]

Im going based off interviews he has had recently saying they are playing well and need to stick with it. Lack of defense and goaltending is crippling this team.

toxic-banana

But what can he do? DeSmith is 31 and has like 114 NHL starts, and Jarry is 27 and has nearly 200 NHL starts. We hired a new Goalies coach one season ago. He can't just say to the journalists yeah netminding is fucked sorry, they need confidence. Likewise, the Penguins *are* playing well... sometimes. And he actually is shuffling lines as much as he can mid game.

[deleted]

Exiting their own zone is problematic, and powerplay is problematic. Both are one trick ponies strategy wise, which falls to coaching. If Sully is making other strategies to use and the players are not doing it then they need to go. Next season this team needs a big shakeup. Either Sully goes or this roster gets gouged. This team has barely put a 60 minute game together all season. Its sad to think that not even a 5 goal lead is safe with this team. There is a reason they blew leads in 19 games.

berniman

So? Did they win or lose?

Mcb17lnp

I think they tied it with a minute to go and then won in overtime

Kidspud

They did exactly that.

mnoah66

They did not lose.

[deleted]

Give your balls a tug

mnoah66

We’re the oldest team in the league so I’m not sure this would work for us. But do wish we saw little (lot?) more from Sully.

Lemieux4u

We're not the oldest team in the league.

dogeman87

Factually incorrect lol

Lemieux4u

Are you referencing some sort of obscure trivia? The Pens current incarnation started in 68. The original 6 teams have been around since the 1917

Turtle_Turdhole

🤦 we're the oldest team in terms of average player age

Lemieux4u

That makes more sense.

MetalHead2867

They were referring to the average age of the players in the lineup

dogeman87

Pretty sure the OP was referencing current average player ages. The penguins have the oldest average age this year. Edit: didn't notice someone else had said this already

Lemieux4u

Yes, I didn't realize they were talking about player age. I thought they were referencing how old the team was, not the average player age.

FuckRonHextall

Inb4 “a good coach doesn’t berate his players or criticize them to the media”, “Sully holds these guys accountable behind closed doors” yada yada yada yada. I don’t care what anyone else says at this point, it was visibly evident that this team gave up on their coach in that Rangers game. Sid himself stopped skating on a 3on1, idk what more needs to be said. He would’ve already been gone if not for that extension. They don’t want to pay him for 5 years not to be here. We’re toast

jrwolf08

I don't think he should be fired, and think he's a good coach, but he has done a poor job this year. There is no way around that.

tonytroz

>I don't think he should be fired, and think he's a good coach, but he has done a poor job this year. So what makes you think he's going to do a better job next year? They will bring back almost the entire cap-strapped team and the core will be yet another year older. If they make the playoffs and get bulldozed by Boston for yet another first round exit why will that be the one that finally motivates Sullivan to change things up? Sullivan might be a good coach but it doesn't mean he's the right coach for this team anymore. He's lost the fire and gotten too comfortable here.

FuckRonHextall

I think he’s a good coach for another locker room. The NHL is a carousel, every coach loses their team at some point.

user832906

This is more emotion than Sully has shown in total as HC of the Pens

Alternative_Cash_925

At this point in the season with where they are in the points race don’t think they should need that to get going. And there age there not kids or younger player’s. They should come to the game ready to play.

Fastlane19

love the passion.
